At a Meeting of the Selectmen of Watertown December ye 20th : 1728, at Sd Meeting ye Selectmen ordred the Clerk to order the Town Treafurer to pay out of the Treafury the Sum of fourteen pounds Six fhillings to George Harrington it being for the New pound & for Six hundred of plank for the great Bridge. And to M' Thomas Biglo the Sum of Sixteen Shillings for four days work at the Great Bridge & & one Shilling for Speeks.

I. Voted and Choofe L'. Samuel Stearns to be Moderator for Sd Meeting.
2. A Lift of ye Town Creditors Accts. or Credit was red to the Town amounting to the Sum of Seventy Seven pounds Nine fhillings & Ten pence. And it was to put Vote whether the Town do grant all the particuler Sums in Said Lift to pay the Town Creditors. And the Vote paft in the Affirmative.
3. Put to Vote whether the Town do grant the Sum of fourty five pounds for the Support of ye Grammer and Englifh School for one Year, And the Vote paft in the Affirmative.

At ye Houfe of Deacon Nathan Fisks the Selectmen Agreed that the following things Should be Delivered to Robert Gage for the Ufe of John Bacon viz Two beds a Straw bed & an uper bed, a bedftead an part of a bed cord and an old Coverlet (thefe at M' Samuel Jenifons) And from Deacon Fifks a hat a pair of Gloves & Some other old cloathing.

Adjourn the Meeting to Some Longer time) It was put to Vote whether the Town would Adjourn this Meeting to Some Longer time, And the Vote Appeared to the Moderator to be on the Negative, The Moderator (not being Senceable that he had any power by himfelf to Adjourn the Meeting, And being urged and prefsed to Defide the Vote about the Schoolhouses; Did then Defire thofe persons yt were of the mind that ye Precincts Should be Impowred to fix the place where the Schoolhoufe Should Stand in their Respective Precinct as it is Set forth in the Warning, to move out at the South door of ye Meeting houfe (it being lighter abroad than in the house) and Stand on the west side of ye Door, And thofe that were of the Contray Mind to move out at the Same door and Stand on the Eaft side of the door, And there moved out about thirty Eight Perfons to the Weft side of Sd Door but not one perfon (as the Moderater could se) to the Eaft Side of sª door. That According to this Defifsion the Vote Appeared to the Moderator to be in ye Affarmitive.

Ordred the Clerk to Send Notifications to the Adjacent Towns At Sª Meeting ordred the Clerk to write a warrant and direct it to one of ye Conftables of sd Town to Warn one James Coddin- ham to depart out of Watertown who came from Marblehead in ye County of Efsex to Watertown Some time in the month of August Last past and now refides in the Dwelling houfe of Samuel Stouel of sd Town the Selectmen refufing to Accept of him as an Inhabi- tant of sd Town.

The Selectmen of Sª Town are Informed that there is one James Coddinham and his wife come to Dwell in Watertown who came Laft ( as ye Selectmen are Informed ) from the Town of Marblehead in the County of Efsex. Sª Coddingham came some time in the month of August Laft paft & sd Coddinhamns Wife came to sd Watertown some time in the Latter End of March Laft past or in the beginning of April Currant, and they refide at the Dwell- ing houfe of Sam" Stouell of sd Watertown, their Circumftances being such yt ye Selectmen refufe to Accept of them to be Inhabi- tants of sd Watertown.
Thefe are therefore in his Majes. Name to Will & Require You ye sd Jofiah Perry forth with to Warn ye Sd James Coddinham & Wife to Depart forthwith out of said Watertown and no longer to Abide therein the Selectmen refufing to Accept of them to be In- as abovesd. hereof fail not and make Return of this Warrant and Your doings thereon forthwith to the Selectmen or Town Clerk.

Ebenezer Chenrys Ocationed by ye Suden death of Samuel Stearns (a poor man) the Selectmen Seing the Necefsety (as Circum- ftances was) of their taking ye Care and providing for ye burial of ye sd Stearns in ye behalf of ye Town. Did Agree to do it in the Towns behalf, and wt was Agreed upon to be provided for Sd funiral was as follow's. viz': Eleven pair of Gloves for bearors and others yt had been helpfull in the Extriordinary occation of sd Stearns Sicknefs & Death, also five Gallons of Wine, ye Selectmen Defired Nathanael Coolligde to make the Coffin, Nathanael Sherman to Digg ye grave & ring ye bell, the Selectmen further Agreed that if any of Said Stearns' relations would Appear and take wt cloths & other things wch Sd Stearns has Left and Defray all ye Charges of Sd Stearnes funiral So as to Save the Town from any Charge, they Sid have the Liberty of so doing. but if yr doth none Appear the Selectmen Agree to take wt cloths & other things belongs to sd Stearns & make the beft of them to help Defray the charge of Sd Stearns funiral, the Selectmen defired Ebenezer Chenry to take ye Care of ye Cloths & things Sd Stearns Left wch was at his houfe till further ord' of ye Selectmen, the Selectmen did alfo Detire Sª Chenry to provid & procure ye Gloves & wine agreed upon & he to be fatiffyed therefor by ye Town.
At Sd meeting ye Selectmen being Informed yt ye Wife of James Coddinham was come to dwel in Sd Town wth her huf band, Did order the Clerk that if ye Conftable had not yet warned ye Sd James Coddinham to depart out of Town to put his Wife into ye warrant & ye Conftable to warn them both to depart out of Water- town, ye Selectmen refufing to Accept of y™ as inhabitants, Sd Coddinghams Wife came to Watertown Some time in ye latter end of March Laft paft or in ye beginning of April Currant and is Sd to come laft from ye Town of Marble-head where her hufband came from.

We the Subfcribers being Appointed to goe on the @ambulation this prefent year with the Adjacent Towns, Did on the 8th Day of this Inftant April Meet at Cambridge wth Mefss Amos & Edward Marrit and Did renew the markes on the Lines between Watertown and Cambridge. on the Same Day we mett wth Mrs Joseph Bowman Ju' & Joseph Smith from Lexington & did renew the Mark on the Line betwext Watertown and Lexington, the Same Day we went to meet with men from Wefton and when we came to ye place Appointed we heard yt Dea : Benj". Brown from Wefton had been there to meet with us but he was gone. on the Next day viz ye 9th day we went to Newton and Did there meet with Mefss Jona" Coollidge & Samuel Jackfon and Did renew the Marks between Watertown and Newton.

In his Majesties Name You are hereby Required to Warn the Freeholdrs and other Inhabitants within the Eafterly & Wefterly Precinctes in Watertown abovesd who are Quallifyed According to Law to Vote in the Choice of a Reprefentative to meet at the pub- lick Meeting houfe in the Eaft Precinct abovesd on fryday the Ninth day of May Next Enfuing the date hereof at three of the Clock in the afternoon of sd day to Choofe a Reprefentative or Reprefentatives to Serve for and Reprefent the Town of Water- town at a great and General Court or Afsembly Appointed to be Convened held & keept for his Majes. John Orm's Surveigher his bouns to be all the Town high Ways and private or Town Ways on the Weft Side of the Lane Leading from Cambridge Line (near Thos : Wellingtons) over the Meeting houfe hill to the river so far as to the Precinct Line alfo the South part of Sd Lane from ye Meeting houfe.
Thomas Hammond Surveigher his Bounds to be the Country Road or Highway from the Precinct Line up to Stoney Brook and the Town Ways on the South Side of Sd Road & ye Town Ways on the North Side of Sd Road Extending from Sd Road half Way to ye Town highway Leading by Sd Hammonds So along by the Meeting houfe to John Child &c.
Thomas Fiske Surveigher his part or Bounds to be the Town highway from the Precinct Line by Jofhua Warrins So over the Bridge by Geo : Harrington Jun' So by Thos : Hammands by ye Meeting houfe So up to & by John Childs. So all ye Town ways on Each Side of Sd Way Extending from Sd Way halfway to ye Contry Road on ye South & half way to the Highway on ye North Side of ye Town.
