July 27, 1858, and d. Jan. 25, 1903. Soon after his majority and marriage he was chosen and served several years as selectman and member of the school board, and was very prominent in Grange work, giving promise of continued usefulness, but suddenly in 1894, without notice or known cause, he left the town and his family for parts unknown. A div. having been previously decreed, Mrs. Fitch, on Sept. 20, 1900, m. Fred R. Streeter, then of Cornish. She d. Jan. 25, 1903. Children of James W. and Almina E. Fitch, both b. in Cornish:

FLETCHER.
ROBERTI FLETCHER, of English stock, settled in Concord, Mass., in 1630. He is the recognized ancestor of all of the name who have ever res. in Cor- nish and vicinity. He was then 38 years of age, and had four sons, of whom three left descendants. The generations following Robert1 were Francis2, Samuel3, Timothy4, Johns and Ebenezer6, b. in 1761, who Feb. 5, 1781, m. Mary Comings, dau. of Samuel and Sarah (Spaulding) Comings, b. Dee. 16, 1757, and d. Feb. 26, 1812. He d. May 8, 1831, in New Ipswich. His son, Ebenezer7, b. Oct. 9, 1782, m. May 29, 1808, Sybil Spaulding, dau. of Benjamin and Sybil (Wallace) Spaulding, b. Sept. 15, 1782. Came to Cornish (time not known) lived and d. there on the place afterwards owned and occupied by Quartus Fletcher. He d. Nov. 15, 1834. Children, all b. in Cornish:

QUARTUS7 FLETCHER (Ephraim6-5,* Timothy4, Samuels, Francis?, Robert1) b. April 22, 1799, in Newport ; m. first, Feb. 16, 1827, Ann Kelley, dau. of Israel and Lydia (Farrington) Kelley, b. Aug. 5, 1805, in Newport. She d. Jan. 7, 1842, leaving eight small children. He m. second, Jan. 16, 1844, Charlotte Hilliard of Cornish, dau. of Joseph and Roxana (Day) Hilliard, b. March 2, 1821. She d. Sept. 23, 1908.
Mr. Fletcher came to Cornish in 1826, and settled in the southeast part of the town, in a district called the "Hempyard." Here he spent the remainder of his life, dying April 27, 1874. He was a prosperous farmer and a respected citizen. Children, all b. in Cornish:
i. WILLIAM KELLEY, b. Feb. 12, 1828, graduated at Kimball Union Academy, Dartmouth College and Harvard University Med. Dept. He was principal of high schools for several years in Abington and Weymouth, Mass .; was an assistant surgeon in U. S. Army, 1862-65, and for many years a successful physician

ii. RUEL HASSELTINE was b. May 16, 1828, and edueated in the schools of Cornish, Newport High School, Kimball Union Academy and
RUEL HASSELTINE FLETCHER. Sixty Years a Schoolmaster, 1849-1910.
New Hampton Institute, supplemented by courses in Harvard University. After teaching winter schools for several years, he began his first annual school in Abington, Mass., in 1854. This he taught two years. The two following years he taught in Quincy, Mass. In Dee., 1857, he became master of the Otis (now Thorndike) Grammar School in Cambridge, Mass. He retired Jan. 1, 1910. Upon the acceptance of his resignation, he was unanimously elected master emeritus of the school, as

a fitting testimonial of appreciation for fifty-two years of faith- ful service in the same school. While in active service, the city paid him a signal honor by naming one of its large schools the Fletcher School. Under his supervision thousands of boys and girls of two generations were fitted for useful lives. Mr. Fletcher m. Feb. 26, 1863, Rebecca Caroline Wyman of Cam- bridge, Mass., b. May 21, 1837, dau. of William and Ruth Emerson (Bradstreet) Wyman. She d. July 10, 1906. They had eight children, all b. in Cambridge.
1. ELIZABETH WYMAN, b. Jan. 13, 1864, and d. Oct. 10, 1864.
2. CHARLES RUEL, b. May 4, 1865. A graduate of Harvard and now manager of the Ashland Emery & Corundum Co., Perth Amboy, N. J. He m. May 24, 1888, Bertha Agnes Holway of Chelsea, Mass. Two children: Ruth Bradstreet, b. April 7, 1889, and Wesley Holway, b. Sept. 23, 1893.
3. CAROLINE REBECCA, b. Sept. 23, 1867. A graduate of Welles- ley, with the degree of B.A. She also received the degree of M.A. from Radeliffe. She is an associate professor of Latin in her alma mater.
4. WILLIAM BRADSTREET, b. Jan. 3, 1870, and d. Aug. 4, 1870.
5. AUSTIN BRADSTREET, b. Jan. 19, 1872. He was educated in the Cambridge schools and received the degree of B.S. from Harvard in 1893. He was secretary and executive officer of the Mass. Highway Commission for seventeen years, resigning Jan. 1, 1910, to become chief engineer of the San Diego County Highway Commission, at San Diego, Cal. He m. March 1, 1894, Ethel Hovey of Cambridge, Mass., b. Aug., 1871. Two children: Dorothy, b. May 12, 1895, and Norman, b. Sept. 27, 1899, who d. July 7, 1906.
6. EDWARD WYMAN, b. Oct. 28, 1874; m. Oct. 28, 1896, Estelle Phipps of Cineinnati, O. One dau., Margaretta Phipps, b. July 17, 1898. He is supt. of a stareh plant in Harbor Beach, Mich.
7. FRANK KELLEY, b. July 27, 1876; m. June 22, 1898, Dorothy Charlotte Hamann of Somerville, Mass. He res. in Somer- ville. No children.
S. FREDERICK WILLIAM, b. Jan. 19, 1878, and d. June 22, 1909. He was a soldier in the Spanish-American War, and later an engi- neer on the famous East Boston tunnel and the Washington Street subway.
iii. JAMES WINCHELL, b. Oct. 24, 1830. He m. Luey C. Fletcher of Preemption, Ill., dau. of Samuel Metcalf and Luey (Hagar) Fletcher. He was a popular teacher, a successful farmer, and a highly respected eitizen. He d. June 9, 1889, in Plainview, Ore. They had five children:

vi. URSULA KELLEY, b. Nov. 22, 1836. She was educated in the schools of Cornish and in Kimball Union Academy, and was a success- ful teacher for several years. She m. April 24, 1862, George W. Hilliard of Cornish, youngest son of Joseph and Roxana (Day) Hilliard. Five children. (See Hilliard.) Present res., Red- lands, Cal.

vii. OLIVER MORES, b. Aug. 7, 1838. A soldier in the Civil War. He m. Oct. 16, 1866, Olive Josephine Merrill of Elmira, N. Y., b. June 26, 1843. She d. Aug. 4, 1874. He d. March 14, 1907. They had two children.
1. FREDERICK MERRILL, b. May 11, 1868; m. March 29, 1893, Sarah Smith Steinberger of Elmira. One child, William Merrill, b. March 13, 1903, and d. March 17, 1903.
2. LAURA MAY, b. Nov. 13, 1869. She m. Jan. 4, 1892, Aaron B. Mills of Bath, N. Y. Three children: Leslie E., b. Jan. 15, 1893; Fred F., b. Nov. 2, 1895, and Charles E., b. Sept. 19, 1899.
viii. ORPHA METCALF, b. March 8, 1840. She was educated in the schools of Cornish and Newport, and in Kimball Union Academy, and was a teacher for eight years. She m. April 14, 1869, Benj. F. Atwood of Cambridge, Mass., who d. Aug. 6, 1892. She res. in Cambridge. One child, Anjanette Gifford, a graduate of Boston University.

ix. HENRY LYMAN, b. April 18, 1845; m. first, Feb. 20, 1869, Angeline N. Freeman of Cornish, dau. of Forest and Nancy (Penniman) Freeman, b. April 16, 1843, and d. July 8, 1898; m. second, Dec. 30, 1899, Mrs. Mary L. (Andrews) Poole, dau. of Harvey Andrews of Claremont. No children by either wife. A farmer, and res. until recently on the Forest Freeman farm, formerly owned by Moody Chase. He now res. in Claremont.
x. LUELLA ETTA, b. Feb. 7, 1849; m. April 15, 1873, Charles Martin Emerson of Newport, b. Nov. 25, 1846. He was a successful merchant, manufacturer and banker. He d. Feb. 1, 1909. One child: Helen Josephine, b. Jan. 19, 1887. A graduate of the Newport High School and Boston University; m. Jan. 19, 1909, Harry Wild Kendall of Windsor, Vt. One child: Ray- mond Emerson, b. March 22, 1910, at Newport.
xi. EMMA JANE, b. March 15, 1852; m. Jan. 3, 1871, Orlando Powers Burr of Cornish. Four children. (See Burr.)
xii. JAEL MORES, b. May 1, 1855; m. Sept. 15, 1877, Orison W. Page of Newport. A farmer and res. of Newport. Three children: 1. Bertha Bell (adopted), b. May 6, 1881. 2. Lawson A., b. July 27, 1883, and m. Jan. 31, 1911, Florence G. Cady of Hart- ford, Conn. A farmer; res., Newport. 3. Lou Emma, b. May 4, 1886.
BELA JENKS7 FLETCHER (Ephraim6-5, Timothy4, Samuels, Francis2, Robert') a brother of Quartus7, b. Jan. 16, 1811; m. Jan. 26, 1841, Marcia Louise Comings of Cornish, dau. of Andrew and Lydia (Jackson) Comings, b. Oct. 13, 1812; d. Aug. 15, 1903. They lived in Claremont. He d. July 26, 1877. He was a bridge builder and general carpenter. Left one son: Franeis E., b. Feb. 18, 1847, who d. Sept. 6, 1908, in North Attle- boro, Mass. Lived in Claremont.

CYRUS KINGSBURY7 FLETCHER (Timothy6, Ephraims, Timothys, Samuels, Francis?, Robert1) b. Oct. 8, 1812, in Newport; m. first, Mrs. Albert Sprague. He lived several years in the southeast part of Cornish and afterwards rem. to Croydon, where he res. till his death -. A brother of Cyrus K., Timothy Stillman, b. Aug. 6, 1817, also made that part of Cornish his home for several years and then rem. to Croydon, where he d. Feb. 27, 1904, aged 86. He m. - , Pamelia Bradford and had eight children. She was dau. of Peter and Miriam (Wyman) Bradford, b. Sept. 13, 1821, and d. in Newport June 1, 1858.
FLING.
LEMUEL FLING, with Ruth, his wife, came from Norwich, Conn., and settled in Cornish about 1791, where the family remained a number of years. They had three children b. in Conn. and three in Cornish:
i. PARNELL, b. Sept. 15, 1781.
ii. ERASTUS, b. July 10, 1783.
iii. CYRIL, b. Sept. 21, 1785; m. in Cornish July 19, 1804, to Jennie Potter.
iv. CALVIN, b. Jan. 8, 1792.
v. AUGUSTA, b. Jan. 11, 1794.
vi. FANNY WATROUS, b. Nov. 27, 1798; m. - , Samuel Hilliard, Jr.
THEOPHILUS FLING, b. in 1768 and Erepta Carpenter, b. in 1770, both of Pom- fret, Conn., were m. there March 22, 1792. They soon after came to town and spent the rest of their lives here. The wife d. Jan. 7, 1846. He. d. Dec. 12, 1846. Both buried in Cornish. Children:

ii. SANFORD C., b. Sept. 12, 1798.
iii. LEWIS, b. Nov. 20, 1801.
iv. LUCIA E., b. Sept. 7, 1804; m. April 16, 1828, Josiah R. Dorr of Detroit, Mich.
Nathan and Judith Fling had a son b. in Cornish Jan. 19, 1800. Unfortunately, the connection, if any, between these families is unknown.
FORD.
CAPT. DANIEL FORD, a son of Samuel Ford, was b. April 2, 1751, in Branford, Conn., and d. in Claremont Oct. 2, 1822, aged 72. One record says he was a sea capt .; another record (Claremont History), says he was in Capt. Oliver Ashley's Co. at the Battle of Ticonderoga in May, 1777, and also in Capt. Abel Walker's Co. at the Battle of Bennington, Aug. 16, 1777, and was probably at the Battle of Saratoga in Sept. of the same year. He m. first, -, Lydia Goodwin of Claremont, dau. of Ensign Thomas Goodwin, b. July 11, 1756, in Middletown, Conn., and d. March 13, 1789, in Claremont. Hle m. second, June 11, 1790, Anna Munroe. Lived chiefly in Claremont but several members of the family became res. of Cornish. Children:
