HAMBLET.
DANIEL HAMBLET was b. May 26, 1799, in Pelham. His mother was Alice Atwood, a sister of Joshua and William Atwood of the same place. Came to Cornish when a young man. Worked at the blacksmith trade with his uncle, William; m. Nov. 12, 1830, Eliza Spaulding of Meriden, dau. of Joshua and Judith (Huggins) Spaulding, b. June 1, 1808, and d. April 11, 1874. He purchased and settled on a part of the Vinton farm and first erected a large barn, and later, in 1848, the stone house, since

occupied by Hiram M. Weld and his descendants. He was a black- smith, stone cutter, farmer and a generally useful man. He d. Jan. 11, 1866. They had but one child:

HAMMOND.
LUTHER HAMMOND was b. Sept. 5, 1781. He m. Abigail Hall, who was b. Feb. 24, 1788. They lived several years in town, and had the following children b. here, after which they evidently left town, as no further record of them has been discovered ..
i. LUTHER, JR., b. June 17, 1811. It is said he m. three times.
ii. MARCIA, b. Jan. 9, 1813; m. - , G. W. Hawkins. Left one son, George, who was drowned in a cistern when four years of age.
iii. ADIN HALL, b. Sept. 20, 1814; m. - , Ann Randall, and had two children: Joseph and Elizabeth.
HARDY.
Soon after our War for Independence, a Wid. Hardy with ten children, six sons and four daughters, rem from Bradford, Mass., to Grantham, then a wilderness. Her husband had taken part in the Revolution and was in the Battle of Bunker Hill. The musket he then carried is still kept by his descend- ants. He d. in Bradford at 49 years of age.
TRISTAMI HARDY, their son, settled in that part of Grantham that was after- wards annexed to Cornish. He was b. March 20, 1771, and was by occupation a farmer and chairmaker. He m. first, March 18, 1795, Kezia Frasier, who was b. March 16, 1773; m. second, March 12, 1818, Wid. Polly Rogers. She left no children. He d. Aug. 17, 1839. Kezia d. Jan. 10, 1817. 2. SAMUEL2 HARDY (Tristam1) b. Oct. 1, 1804. Excepting about ten years after his majority spent in the state of N. Y., his life was spent in Cor- nish. Of somewhat frail health, he chose employment involving light manual labor, and commenced in 1836 the manufacture and sale of his famous salve and other medicines which have since become so celebrated. This he followed until 1869, when, owing to his infirmities, he retired, leaving his business in the hands of two of his sons .. He was a Baptist, zealous and benevolent for every good cause, a kind neighbor and a

He was three times married: first, Oct. 1, 1827 (on his birthday), to Sally Carroll, dau. of Follansbe and Sarah (Carroll) Carroll of Croydon; m. second, Nov. 12, 1838, to Prudentia B. Coburn; in. third, April 25, 1848, to Mrs. Phebe Amanda (Coburn) Pratt, a sister of his second wife. Sally (Carroll) Hardy was b. Aug. 23, 1807; d. April 9, 1838, aged 30. Prudentia B. (Coburn) Hardy, b. Feb. 6, 1813; d. Dec. 16, 1847, aged 34. Phebe A. (Pratt) Hardy, b. July 28, 1804; d. April 4, 1882, aged 78. He d. at Cornish Flat Aug. 7, 1879. Children by Sally Carroll:
i. FOLLANSBE CARROLL, b. Dec. 20, 1829. Received his education in the common schools of Cornish and at Kimball Union Academy. He engaged, at first with his father, as traveling salesman in the sale of the Hardy medicines. Proving successful in this, he enlarged his business, dealing also in other medicines and goods, and became quite successful in securing a competence. He m. June 17, 1856, Delia Pierce of West Boylston, Mass. Had three children. Res., Worcester, Mass.

3. PHILEMON C.3 HARDY (Samuel?, Tristam1) b. March 5, 1840, the first born of Prudentia Coburn. From his boyhood has been engaged in the medi- cine business; his father employing him until 1869, when with his brother Charles they purchased their father's interest in it. This partnership continued. until the death of Charles, since which time he has conducted it alone. In 1897 he purchased the large farm north of the Flat originally owned by Daniel Chase, Esq., giving it the title of "Blow- me-down Ranch." Since then his time has been much devoted to his farm, carrying on the medicine business; is liberal in the support of the Baptist Church, of which he is a dea. He m. first, Oct. 17, 1867, Linne J. Dyer, dau. of Daniel Dyer of Sutton, Que., b. Oct. 17, 1848, and d. March 30, 1895. They had one child, a dau., Nora A., b. Aug. 2, 1879, and d. July 5, 18SO. He m. second, June 6, 1898, Martha W. Day of Cornish, dau. of Hiram A. and Louise (Wyman) Day, b. Nov. 28, 1851.

1. CAPT. JAMES HARLOW came from Plymouth, Mass., to Cornish during the Revolutionary War, bringing at least three children with him, James, Robert and a dau., Mercy, who was b. Sept. 7, 1765, and d. Sept. 28,

2. ROBERT2 HARLOW (Capt. Jamest) was b. June 25, 1763, in Plymouth, Mass., and came to Cornish in 1778 when fifteen years of age; m. May 6, 1790, Charity Barrows of Cornish, but recently from Carver, Mass., from whence she had come with her parents, Moses and Elizabeth Bar- rows. Charity was b. Sept. 12, 1768, and d. June 18, 1868, aged 99-9-6. The Barrows settled three fourths of a mile northwest of Cornish Flat, in a section since called "Dodge Hollow," near the base of Furnald Hill. Mr. Harlow lived on or near the same farm and cared for them in their old age. Mr. Harlow d. June 18, 1823. Children, all b. in Cornish:

LEVI HARLOW With Silence Cobb, his wife, came from Taunton, Mass., and settled in Springfield, Vt. Had thirteen children. Their second child, Levi, Jr., m. His biographer says of him: "He was a man of ardent piety. His mode of expression was original and impressive. The last few months of his life were characterized by very affectionate views of Christ and sweet peace of mind."

HART.
WILLIAM CARTER HART was the oldest of seven children of Benjamin and Lucy (Champlin) Hart, b. in Pomfret, Vt., March 5, 1820; m. Aug. 17, 1847, Elizabeth Fitts of Oxford, Mass., dau. of Andrew and Ruth (Pike) Fitts, b. Dec. 9, 1824, and d. May 4, 1903, in Haverhill, Mass. In April, 1856, they came to Cornish, bought the Capt. Charles Chase farm on the river road and erected a set of buildings thereon (the orig- inal ones having been burned). He was one of the selectmen, 1871- 74-75-76; a staunch Republican and a Free Mason. After a res. of thirty years in Cornish, he sold out in 1886 and rem. to Haverhill, Mass., where they spent the remainder of their lives. On the 17th of Aug., 1897, they celebrated their golden wedding. All their children (five) and all their grandchildren (nine) were present. Mr. Hart d. Dec. - , 1910. Children:

It is a remarkable record that there was no death in this Hart family among children or grandchildren for upwards of fifty years prior to the death of Mrs. Hart, May 4, 1903.
HASKELL.
DANIEL HASKELL In. Feb. 9, 1779, Elizabeth Putnam of Cornish, dau. of Daniel and Anna (Chase) Putnam, b. July 15, 1762, and had the follow- ing children b. in town:

ii. DANIEL C., b. July 3, 1781.
After the birth of these two children, the family probably left town, as all further record of it is lost.
JOHN HASKELL m. March 25, 1779, Eunice Carpenter and they had the follow- ing children:

The census of 1790 says the family at that time consisted of the father, one son and four females beside the mother.
HASTINGS.
JONAS HASTINGS was b. about 1826, in Grantham; m. - , Mary D. Whittaker of the same town, a sister of Jonathan C. Whittaker, b. 1828. They had one child, a son: Albion, b. Aug. 19, 1867. Mr. Hastings came to Cornish about 1859 and was employed by the town to take charge of their poor for several years. He was collector of taxes during years of 1861- 62-63-64-68. Was selectman during years of 1865-66-67 ; also the hearse driver several years. After the town farm was sold and the paupers rem. to Unity, Mr. Hastings was employed by the Co. Com. to have charge of the Paupers' Home in Unity, which he retained a few years, and then went to Claremont to live. Here he engaged in the butchering and meat business, which he fol- lowed till he d. April 14, 1892, aged 66. Ilis wife d. Oct. 18, 1889, aged 61.

NORMAN E. HEBARD, the son of Aaron and Susan (Story) Hebard, was b. Sept. 16, 1819, in Lebanon; m. first, Jan. 13, 1842, Ellen C. Smalley of Lebanon. She was b. Dec. 29, 1819, and d. April 30, 1860; m. second, August 29, 1860, Mrs. Julia A. (Avery) Merrill, wid. of John Merrill and dau. of Samuel and Mercy (Wood) Avery of Plainfield, b. May 7, 1827, and d. Dec. 5, 1905. Mr. Hebard was a farmer. Of a mirthful disposi- tion and generous almost to a fault. Served as one of the selectmen in 1868-69-70, as S. S. superintendent, etc. He d. Dec. 23, 1900. Children by first wife:
i. LUELLA P. C., b. May 20, 1845; m. April 30, 1872, Joseph Cummings. One child: Velzora, b. March 28, 1873, who m. Dec. 5, 1894, Alfred S. Sisson of Cornish.
ii. JULIUS S., b. July 29, 1848. Unm. in 1902.
