TRACY.


1. CAPT. ANDREW TRACY, the first of the name to come to Cornish, was b. in Lisbon, Conn., Sept. 17, 1772 .? He was a descendant of Lieut. Thomas Tracy, who emigrated from Eng., in 1636, and whose lineage is traced back to Egbert, one of the Saxon kings of England. Ile m. Anna Bingham, dau. of Lemuel and Hannah (Perkins) Bingham of Windham, Conn., and a descendant, on her mother's side, from Gov. Wm. Bradford, who came over in the Mayflower. She was b. Sept. 12, 1750, and d. Sept. 5, 1827. He d. Dec. 26, 1819, aged 70.

Capt. Tracy came to Cornish in the winter of 1783-84, bringing his goods and family on an ox-sled. Lived the remainder of the winter in a log-house with another family, and until he could build for himself, on land bought of Daniel Freeman, for which, as the deed says, he paid "three hundred pounds lawful money." vii. GEORGE BOARDMAN, b. May 15, 1826; m. - , Sarah Hebard of Lebanon. Enlisted in Co. E, 9th Regt., N. H. Vols .; was wounded by a minnie ball in the ankle at Spottsylvania on May 12, 1864, early in the morning. Lay where he fell that day and night till the night of the 13th when he was brought in on a blanket by his comrades who had obtained permission to go outside the lines for that purpose. He d. in the hospital at Washington, D. C., June 6, 1864.

GEORGE ALBERT TRUELL, son of Wiseman C. and Syrena (Centre) Truell, was b. in No. Grantham Jan. 30, 1841. M. Nov. 29, 1863, Marion Alice Mitchell, dau. of Ebenezer and Mary W. (Allen) Mitchell, b. in Croy- don July 6, 1844. Came to Cornish in March, 1864. Res. several years on the Flat, and finally settled on the David K. Ripley farm south of the Flat. A stone mason. Child:


i. MINNIE MITCHELL, b. in Cornish, Nov. 16, 1864. She m. June 11, 1887, Lewis C. Peaslee of Cornish. They have one dau. : Marion Truell, b. March 1, 1895.

After the war he became a Methodist preacher. Served several churches. M. Dec. 20, 1870, Sarah C. Brown, dau. of Chester and Calista W. (Shepard) Brown, b. Oct. 13, 1846. No children. He came to Cornish in 1896 and preached about two years for the Congregational Society as a supply, till failing health caused him to leave the ministry. He d. Sept. 9, 1900, on the Flat.


TUXBURY.


ISHMAEL TUXBURY was b. March 12, 1782, in Meriden; m. Sept. 6, 1809, Hul- dah Bemis of Cornish, dau. of Benj. B. and Abigail (Hall) Bemis, b. Dec. 24, 1785, and d. in Windsor, Jan. 13, 1870. They lived in Meriden till about 1830. Kept the hotel and boarding house there. Coming from

Meriden they lived in Cornish about twenty years on the river road near Claremont line. After this they lived in a house in Cornish a mile north of Cornish bridge where he d. June 15, 1867. Both are buried in Windsor. Children:

viii. SARAH MARIA, b. June 28, 1829; d. Sept. 1, 1834; was buried in Cornish. The oldest of these children was buried in Neb. and all the rest in Windsor, Vt.

The Tylers came from Conn. to Claremont during the early history of that town. The generations preceding were: Willian Tyler of New Haven, Conn .; John 2ª Tyler of Wallingford, Conn .; Benjamin4 who came from Farmington,

Conn., to Claremont in 1767. He built the first mill in that town, and was the ancestor of the family of this name in Claremont. He was b. Feb. 22, 1733; m. in 1753, Mehitable Andrews, and d. in Claremont March 9, 1814. His wid. d. there Jan. 17, 1823.


EPHRAIM5, son of Benjamin4, was b. in 1759; and m. Abigail Pardee, in 1781; and d. in Claremont Dec. 16, 1823. Abigail d. there March 18, 1814. They had several children.


EPHRAIM6, son of the last, was b. in Claremont Sept. 16, 1783; m. - , Sarah Gookin, b. in 1793, and d. in Claremont Aug. 18, 1820. Ephraim® d. Dec. 12, 1842. Had several children.


CHARLES7 TYLER, son of last, was b. in Claremont July 4, 1816; m. Sept. 22, 1839, Lucy F. Russell of Weathersfield, Vt .; b. Oct. 24, 1819, and d. in Cornish March 20, 1901. Mr. Tyler came first to that part of Gran- tham (now Plainfield) just over the line from Cornish where he lived several years and then came to Cornish Flat where he spent the rest of his life. He run the gristmill above the Flat several years, and was also a carpenter and house-builder. He d. Dec. 31, 1894. Children :


i. GEORGE E., b. May 15, 1841, in Grantham. Enlisted in 1861, in the Second Regt., N. H. Vols., and d. March 4, 1863, in Boston. (See Military.)


ii. RUSSELL, b. May 29, 1844, in Grantham. Enlisted in 1861 in the 6th Regt., N. H. Vols. Also reënlisted in 1863. (See Military.) He m. Nov. 30, 1865, Lucy A. Sisson of Cornish, dau. of John F. and Emily A. (Smith) Sisson, b. Sept. 9, 1848, and d. Nov. 17, 1891, in Westfield. He d. in the same place, Oct. 26, 1896. They had one child: Harry Russell Tyler, b. Jan. 12, 1867; m. in March, 1890, Flora L. Thurston of Springfield, Mass., and d. in Westfield, Mass., Dec. 4, 1895.


iii. MARY READ, b. June 7, 1852, in Grantham; m. July 21, 1SS1, Austin Tyler who was b. in Claremont Jan. 16, 1847. They had two daughters, both b. in N. Y. City: 1. Mary Lucy, b. Feb. 6, ISS3. 2. Sarah Emily, b. Feb. 24, 1885. Mr. Tyler was a --- and res. in N. Y. City where he d. April 21, 1901, aged 53 years, 3 months.


iv. CHARLES WILLIS, b. in Cornish, Jan. S, 1857. Was educated in the schools of Cornish. In 1875, entered the employ of Webster, Russell & Co., of Plymouth, as clerk in a general store, serving five years. In 1SSO, entered the employ of J. P. Pitman & Co., at Laconia. In 1882, entered the employ of Laconia National Bank as elerk. In 1889 he was elected assistant cashier and cashier in 1900 which position he still holds. Was one of the incorporators of the Laconia Building and Loan Association in 1SSS and has held the office of treasurer since. One of the organ- izers of the Winnepesaukee Lake Transportation Co., and holds the position of mamager and treasurer of the same. Has always

had the welfare of the city of his adoption at heart. M. in Oct., 1882, Florence L. Jackman, who d. Oct. 18, 1893. He is a Republican, a Congregationalist and a Mason of the 32d degree.


VINCENT.


REV. SAMUEL L. VINCENT, son of Ishmael and Caroline (Green) Vincent, was b. in Moretown, Vt., March 26, 1851. Grad. Bangor Theological Sem. in 1878. Served as pastor in Pembroke, Me., Peru, Braintree, Hartford, Bridgewater, Jamaica and Glover, Vt., and came to Cornish in May, 1904.


He m. first, Nov. 27, 1878, Hannah Jones of Dennisville, Me. She d. Der. 26, 1893, leaving six children. M. second, in Jamaica, Vt., Nov. 20, 1894, Mary Wheeler. Children by last wife:

VINTON.


The Vintons originally came from France. There is no documentary proof of it, but traditions both in England and America all point that way.


1. MAJ. JOHNS VINTON (Johns, Joseph3, John2-1) was b. in Dudley, Mass., Feb. 24, 1760; m. Jan., 1784, Susanna Manning of Woodstock, Conn., a sister of Hannah, wife of Caleb Plaistridge, b. March, 1765. Enlisting at the age of 16, he served in the War of the Revolution from 1777 to 1780. Settled in Cornish in Jan. or Feb., 1787. Came in winter, him- self, wife and two children, with all their household goods on a sled drawn by oxen, and were two weeks on the road. Lived first on the farm where Mrs. Beal now lives, and about 1795 rem. to the farm where J. W. Pierce lives, and built the brick house there in 1809. Was a black- smith by occupation, also a prosperous farmer. A man of note in town, energetic, industrious and intelligent; a Maj. in the militia and seven years Deputy Sheriff, also a Free Mason, being one of the charter mem- bers of Hiram Lodge, No. 9, Claremont. A man of uncommon bulk and portliness, weighing 350 lbs. and some accounts give his actual weight at one time 456 lbs. He d. in Cornish March 19, 1838. His wife d. April 10, 1847. Children, all b. in Cornish except the two oldest, who were b. in Dudley, Mass.

vi. NANCY, b. Feb. 29, 1792; m. Sept. 5, 1818, Chester W. Stone of Sturbridge, Mass. Three children. A farmer and d. May 8, 1849. She d. 1885.


vii. JOHN, b. Dec. 20, 1793; m. -- , Phebe Wallace, of Pownal, Vt. He was a blacksmith; and d. Nov., 1829, in Newburgh, Ohio. No children.

April 30, 1861. By Mr. Vinton she had nine children:

WAKEFIELD.


The name Wakefield is found among the earliest Anglo-Saxon records and figures extensively in history of places and persons, and in every grade of social life, and every department of Government, Science, Literature and In- dustry.


JONATHANI WAKEFIELD came from Yorkshire, Eng., to America about 1640, landing at Martha's Vineyard. His son, Jonathan2, settled in Sutton, Mass., where his son, Jonathan3, was born, who was killed at Dorchester Heights, March 5, 1776. His son, Jonathan4, came and settled in New- port, in 1779, and spent the rest of his life there. He m. first, Sarah Fletcher; second, Elizabeth Goodwin. Had eight children.


JONATHAN& WAKEFIELD, his second child and eldest son, born in No. New- port, July 8, 1787, came and settled in Cornish in 1813, near the bound- ary line of Newport. Soon after he rem. to the farm on the hill south of Cornish Flat, now (1908) owned by M. B. Lindsay. Here he lived many years or until about 1850, when he rem. to Elizabethtown, N. Y.,

and afterwards to No. Hudson, N. Y., where he d. Oct. 27, 1868, aged 81. He m. Feb. 8, 1813, Rebecca Haven of Newport, dau. of William and Rebecca (Jacobs) Haven, b. Nov. 23, 1786, d. at No. Hudson Feb. 12,1897, aged 92. Mr. Wakefield and wife were Baptists and he was Dea. of the church on the Flat many years, establishing a high reputation for character and industry. Children, all b. in Cornish;
