HUGGINS.
The Huggins were of English descent. About the year 1700, Nathaniel Huggins1 and John Huggins1, brothers, and also a sister (name not known) came to America. John settled in "Old Springfield," Mass., and d. there in 1712. He left four sons. These settled chiefly in Conn. and N. Y. Nathaniel settled in Greenland and d. there at an advanced age. He had two sons: Samuel and John. Nothing is known concerning the posterity (if any) of Samuel, but John continued to live in Greenland, till advanced in life and then came to Cornish, the year not known.
1. JOHN HUGGINS, the first of the name in Cornish was b. in 1712 and lived in Greenland. He m. Hannah Ayers of the same place and of about the same age. They had eight children, all supposed to have been b. in Greenland. The parents came in mature life to Cornish accompanied by nearly all of their children, where they spent the remainder of their lives. She d: April 28, 1801, aged 89. He d. Dec. 16, 1781; was selectman at the time of his death, aged 69. Their graves are with us today. Children:

he m. second, -, Rebecca Tasker of Cornish, b. in 1729 (?) and d. April 10, 1821, aged 92. He d. March 12, 1809, aged 72. Their graves are on a lonely hillside near the George D. Kenyon farm, far from any occupied home. Mr. Huggins' tombstone bears this inscription:
"Retire my friends, dry up your tears, I must lie here till Christ appears."

She d, March, 18, 1859. Mr. Huggins left Cornish when young and settled at Indian Stream in Canada. He was a farmer, enjoyed excellent standing in society, was a colonel of militia, etc. He d. June 9, 1866, at Pittsburg, Can., aged S8.

8. JOHN3 HUGGINS (Jonathan2, John1) was b. June 21, 1773; m. June 23, 1796, Sarah Richardson of Cornish, dau. of Joseph and Miriam (Hil- dreth) Richardson, b. March 10, 1773, and d. July 13, 1852. His occu- pation chiefly was peddling goods on the road. While thus engaged he, in some way, and perhaps unwittingly by handling smuggled goods, became amenable to the law and so left his family and the town and resided in Canada the last years of his life. He d. in Sept., 1827. His family all remained in town till their majority. Children, all b. in Cornish:
i. JOHN, JR., b. Jan. 3, 1797. He went to Canada in 1817; m. Thirza Mane and had eight children. Rem. to Petersburg, Ill., in 1849, where his wife d. in 1854. In 1850, he went to Cal., where he spent seven years and then returned to Petersburg, where he d. in 1871.
ii. SARAH, b. Feb. 5, 1799; m. April 11, 1821, Francis Lothrop. One child, Edwin A. (See Lothrop.) She d. Dec. 14, 1873.
iii. CHARLOTTE, b. May 2, 1801; m. July 5, 1829, John Deming of Cor- nish. Five children. (See Deming.) She d. May 8, 1896. "She was possessed of a lovely Christian character, seasoned with joyousness, clear common sense and sparkling wit. These, added to the charms of a voice inherited from her mother, endeared her to the hearts of all. She read the Bible through over twenty times during her life."

Mr. Huggins was a very prominent man in Woodburn, Ill., was postmaster many years. A Dea. of the Baptist Church and Supt. of its Sabbath School for twenty- five years. Engaged extensively in fruit growing. Was ac- counted good authority on all horticultural subjects. Was treasurer of the State Society and Pres. of the Alton, Ill., Horti- cultural Society. Sept. 22, 1804, aged 19; m. second, June 30, 1805, Polly Troupe of Pomfret, Vt., dau of Samuel Troupe, judge of the Supreme Court of Vt. He, with the aid of his brother Samuel, built the large brick house in Cornish now (1904) owned and occupied by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the famous sculptor and artist. Mr. Huggins d. in Cornish March 5, 1828. His wid., after a few years, rem. to Bunker Hill, Ill., and resided with her son till her death, which occurred Jan. 9, 1853, aged 75. Was a very successful school teacher in his day; also served as Supt. of schools and also as a selectman. He m. first, May 18, 1848, Miriam A. Wyman of Cornish, dau. of Joshua and Althea (Wellman) Wyman, b. Sept. 15, 1825, d. Oct. 24, 1849, leaving one child; m. second, March 22, 1853, Elizabeth J. Goss, a sister of Mrs. N. Newell Huggins, b. Oct. 11, 1831, and d. Sept. 6, 1880. In less than five days from her death she was fol-

HUNT.
DR. GEORGE W. HUNT, son of Harry and Mary (Staples) Hunt, b. May 20, 1829, in Georgia, Vt., and was one of three sons of the same birth. His twin brothers were James Madison, who d. young, and Thomas Jeffer- son, who m. Feb. 22, 1853, Mary Langdon, and had two children. The former pedigree of this family is, Harry3, Daniel? and Gideon' of Roxbury, Conn. Dr. Ilunt was a graduate of Castleton, Vt., Med. College. He m. Sept. 20, 1858, Cynthia M. Piper of Weston, Vt., dau. of Nahum and Catharine (Bennett) Piper, b. Nov. 27, 1838, and d. April 21, 1898. He res. two years in Grafton, Vt., where he commenced the practice of medicine and also in Weston, Vt., four years and in 1862 came to Cornish where he continued in the successful practice of his profession until his death, which occurred, March 3, 1907. He lived all the early part of his life in town, then for several years in Newport. He d. in Unity Dec. 18, 1901, aged SS. The record of the death of second wife is unknown. JEDEDIAH HUNTINGTON, the son of Gideon and Avis (Bliss) Huntington, b. in Compton, Can., Feb. 10, 1820; m. March 18, 1868, Achsa White, dau. of Stillman and Nancy (Farrington) White, b. Jan. 18, 1842. They came to Cornish in Jan., 1873, and settled in the "Poppy Squash" dis- trict. He d. Dec. 15, 1875, being instantly killed by falling in front of a load of wood, which passed over him. Children:
