PROMINENT BUSINESS MAN OF AURORA DIES
AURORA, Mo .. Bept. 29 .- (Special) -Word was received here yesterday of the death in Colorado Springs. Colo., of C. Emmett Brown, promin- ont business man of Aurore, who died following an operation. Mr. Brown had been a resident of Aurore for 35 years, leaving here a year ago for the west in an effort to regain hie health. He was president of the school board for several years and had been president of the Aurora Building and Loan association since Ita organization, until the first of the year. He had served as an elder of the Presbyterian church longer than any other man. He was a Ma- son and belonged to the condistory at Joplin and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine at Springfield.

The tragedy occurred during re- cent high waters which left the farm home of the Wendy family. two miles north of Rogersville. iso- lated for nearly two weeks." Tole- phone lines were down; there was no way of communicating, with friends on neighboring farms or with physicians in Rogersville. No Help Possible The child born without medical care. For three days.it was as well as any babe. Then it sick- ened, and for six days it mw weaker and weaker. The stranded family could do nothing. On the ninth day the child died. There was & simple family service, and the baby was buried on the farm near the home where it was born.

First word of the strange tragedy was received here when Coroner Windje noticed an unsigned death certificate. He went to Rogersville and learned the story.

Corener. Windle's report for the month of September told, too of an Infant born in a hovel here, dying six weeks later of "nothing kees than starvation." Another child in this family, the report revealed, al- so ls near death from lack of care and proper food.
During the month there was one suicide here and one death of acute alcoholism. Two youths were killed in a railway accident; an aged man dled of Injuries suffered when he was struck by a street car; and two other sudden deaths were blamed to heart disease.

Funeral services were to have heen conducted for the child yes- terday afternoon. but the 6- year-old sister. in u hospital here ufter an operation for appen- dicitis. became dangerously and the services were postponed. The little giri died at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon, despite a blood tranfusion yesterday morning when the father offered hig blood as a last resort to save her life.
