Oldest Travelling Man.


Byrd Lockhart Mckinney. 93 years old, a pioneer resident of Joplin died this week. He was probably the oldest traveling salesman in the Unit- ed States, having been "on the road" sixty-nine years.


Mr. Mckinney had resided In Jop- un thirty-seven years, being engaged in selling wholesale merchandise. He covered his territory in this district up to the time of his death, using the Interurban lines for transportation.


He was born March 24, 1834, in Burgettstown, Pa. When he was two years old he moved with his parents to Hillsboro, Ill., where he resided un- til he was 20 years old, at which ago be was married. He came to Joplin in 1890 and resided there until his death.


For many years Mr. Mckinney trav- elled In western Kansas, and coming to Joplin when the modern commer- cial traveler began to supplant the : wagen method. he went on the road for A Kansas City houst.
