Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Starne mortuary for Lao L. Lamen. who died Saturday afternoon at Liberty. Mo. after a brief illness. Mr. Lemen had been prominent for many years in Odd Fellow activities in Southwest Missouri. Members of the Odd Fellow and Rebekah lodges will meet at the I. O. O. F. hall at 2 o'clock to go to the services.

Mrs. Sarah L. Rogers, 78, wife of J. B. Rogera, pioneer farmer, died yesterday after a lingering illness at her home, route 1, Stratford. She le survived by her husband, a son, W. B. Rogers of Strafford; and four daughters. Mrs. William Mel- ton of Springfield and Mra. J. M. West, 'Mrs. John Melton and Mrs. William Roland of Strafford. WEST PLAINS. FARMER IS KILLED BY WILD HOG.


WEST PLAINS, Mo. Oct. 20-(A. P.)-Bam' Chappel, 41-year-old farm- er who lived 20 miles southwest of here, was killed Tuesday by & wild hog which he and a neighbor were attempting to kill. The hog had been making depredations in the neighbor's cornfleld.


The hog attacked three dogs which the med took along for the hunt. Having no weapons, the men began throwing. stones at the hog to save the dogs. The hog suddenly charged Chappel. .

Ellciting forgiveness from his wife and exacting a pledge from his older sons "to care for mother." tha Rev. Harry T. Crocker of Seymour died at 6:50 last night at his home.


The pastor of the First Baptist church at Beymour fatally wounded himself carly yesterday by shooting himself in the chest. The tragedy was enacted in the front yard of his home as a cilmax to a two months nervous Illness.


Funeral services will be held' at 2 p. m. tomorrow from the, church where the pastor had filled the pul- pit for more than two years.


Family Hovers Near.


-The Rev. Lewis M. Hale, pastor of the First Baptist church of Spring- fle!d, will conduct the funeral serv- ices over his fellow clergyman.


The Rev. Crocker will be buried in the Masonio cemetery, not far from his home in Seymour ..


Surrounded by his grief-stricken wife and four of his five older chil- drew, the pastor., who had been an ordained,. Baptist minister 21 years. gasped u tarwoll lato. yesterday.

''Mother. we haven't anything to worry about,' he said Sunday. But wy couldn't get him to take an in- terest in things about the home. We asked him about buying wood for the , winter. but ho listlessly anld. 'Let's put it off awhile.'"


Felt Death Approach.


Throughout yesterday. as the faml- ly hovered near his bedside, the pas- tor said little to his family.


"Onco he said to mother, 'I love you.' He seemed to want to get well."


As he realized the end was near, Mr. Crocker called to his tero older Bons, Luther And Claybrook. 19. and bogged them to take care of their mother, which the boys sobbingly promised to do.


Luther recounted the details of the suicide.


"I was upstairs dressing," he sal1. "Mother was cooking breakfast. Sud- denly :I heard a shot. I looked out from a window and saw father lying on the ground, the'platol near him."

Prior to going to Beymour two years ago last February, Mr. Crocker was pastor of a Baptist church at Thayer fcr 18 months.


He has served as spiritual advisor of several Baptist churches In Okla- home before coming to Missouri.


He was a graduate of Clinton col- lege. Clinton, Ky. He also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary at Fort Worth( Tex.


He was born March 2, 1888 In Gib- son county, Tenn.

WILD HOG TAKES LIFE OF FARMER

8am Chappel, 41 years old, a farm- er who lived two miles west of Cure- an, fear West Plains, was almost in- stantlý killed when he was attacked by a wild hog in a field on the farm of Rev. : T. B. Minson, a neighbor. with whoin he had gone to halp capturo the outlaw animal.

Rev. Minson and Chappel went to the field with their .dogs at .2 o'clock. in the morning to capture the hog which has been making nightly raids on the minister's farm and destroying -


his corn crop. -


The hog attacked the three dogs and was wounding them severely. The men were throwing rocks at the hog to beat It off the dogs, when the hog suddenly charged at Chappel. Before he could fice, the hog struck Chappel twice with ' its tuaks, the first slash cutting the knee cap bone in two and the second Inflloting & deep wound a few inches above the knee. The second wound tore open An artery, and Chappel bled to death before Rov. Minson, who rushed to bis ald, could do apything for him.


Rev. Minson said 'he did not think the man lived more than three or four minutes.


"I had gone a few feet away to get more rochs. when Chappel called to me," the Rev. Minson sald. "He told me the hog had out his leg off. „.I rushed to him and caught him in my arms as he fell backward. but he was able to speak only a few words."
