One of the victims of the devast- ing storm which Thursday struck St. Louis and Illinois tri-city suburbs, David Rhule. 44. formerly of Spring- theid, is to be buried bere tomorrow.

Reports of the storm told of the fatal burning of three men In Granite City when the force of the gale upset a crucible of molten metal at the plant of the St. Louis Coke and Iron company, but it la -- not definitely known here whether Rhule was one of that unfortunate . trio.

PIONEER POSTAL WORKER IS DEAD; SERVED-30 YEARS


0. C. Mitchell, Postmaster During Wilson Administra- tion, Also Worked as Po- liceman in Early Days


O. C. MITCHELL, 69, for 40 years a resident of Springfield and postmaster 8 years during the Wil- administration, died at . o'clock yesterday afternoon follow- ing a lingering illness at his home at 1927 North Benton avenue.


Mr. Mitchell, who was the son of the Reverend and Mrs. Greenberry Mitchell, natives of Tennessee, was born in Dallas county, Missouri, October 20, 1858. He was married on October 2. 1878, to Elizabeth Donnell, who was born, reared and educated in Greene county. To this union, ono son, John E, was born.


On Force 50" Yaare


Mr. Mitchell received his educa- tion in the schools of this county and also spent one year at Morrie- ville college in Polk county, after which he engaged In farming until March 9, 1887. when he moved to Springfield and secured employ- ment with the Frisco railroad. For two years he held this position. then was appointed to the police force by Mayor Walker. holding this position for two years, after which he spent a year in the gro- cory business. He was appointed mail carrier in 1898 and held this position for 21 years. In February. 1914, he was named postmaster and served in that position for eight yesrs, when he resigned. He re- turned, however, to the post office work and served as clerk for one year in order to complete the 33 years service record which entitled him to a pension.


He then retired on this pension and engaged in no other business thereafter.
