FORMER MINISTER'DIES AFTER TAKING, POISON

tor of -the-douth Arenue : Christina? church, died this morning at the family bomne, 604 East Lombard street, after swallowing a quantity of strychnine.
After taking . the orer-dose .. of polson about 8 a. m., he called mem- bers of his family to the bedside, in- formed them of his act and died about three hours and a half later. He was conscious to the end.
Dr. E. C. Roseberry and Dr. M. J. Armstrong made desperate efforts to save Mr. Moffett's life, pumping the polson from his stomach and ad- ministering every known anecdote.
However. Mr. Moffett had swal- lowed three graine of strychnine in capsules, enough to kill several men.
Mr. Moffett was for many years pastor of the South Avenue Chris- tian church. He resigned 10 years ago when he suffered a severe nerv- ous breakdown.
Dr. Roseberry also stated today that Mr. Moffett was n victim Of high blood pressure. Mr. Moffett's condition had been growing worse during the past few months, al. though he still was able to walk about the house and yard.
Upon the arrival of the physicians this morning. Mr. Moffett expresoed the desire to live, but it was too late. Members of his family doubted his statements about the swallowing of the polson until the arrival of the physicians.
