ACCOUNTANT'S CERTIFICATE
I have examined the cash receipts and securities in the various Trust Funds in the hands of the Treasurer and find them to be as stated in the Treasurer's Report. The income from Trust Funds in the hands of others have been received for the year 1967 and credited to the proper accounts. The receipts as reported by the Treasurer agree with the books, and that payments of the Town correctly presents the financial status as of December 31, 1967. Again this office would like to take the liberty of thanking the Board of Selectmen, all Town Officers and Employees, the Town Report Committee, and all others who have contributed to the com- piling of this report.
THEODORE C. PALIZZOLO, Town Accountant

MARRIAGES
1764-"Married, Daniel Gowing to Mary Bowers, Dec. 25, 1764 by Rev. Mr. Adams" and it is added that the bride was clothed only in a sheet and undergar- ment, and those "She borrowed." Probably the bride appeared in that remarkable outfit under the appre- hension that if she brought nothing to her husband he could not be held for and debt of hers. The bride being a widow it is conjectured that she did not want her new husband held accountable for the debts of her former husband.

1874-March, a Lynnfield lady gives birth to three children at one time, making up a family of four in- fants, under the age of 13 months, and 8 children, all under 12 years. The parents not being very prosperous pecuniary circumstances, were deservedly the recip- ients of many useful gifts.

EXCERPTS FROM HISTORICAL SOURCES
Journal of Mr. Obadiah Turner recounting a journey "afar into ye wildernesse" (to the west and north of Lynn.)
"1630 Julie ye 28. On ye last 4th day some of us did goe afar into ye wildernesse towards ye river on the west and thence about by ye hills on ye north. And this we did that we might discover what ye land and productions of this our heritage might be. We found valies of mighty trees of such kinds as Old England is a stranger too. And wee made sore our feet by ye climbing of hills among rocks and thornie brambles and vines. Great store of wild berries were on every hand. Among them were many black shining berries as big as ye pills of ye apothecaries and these berries be of sweete milde taste and grow in clusters on low bushes with light green leaves without thorns." "Wee did pluck some and found them savory to cat in fire cakes and did think them apt for puddings. Then there were found other large shining berries growing on creeping vines of most lucious taste, and we did eat all till our mouths were black as ye chim- ney back."
