Jones was made sup't of the Edgar Thomp- son Works, and in 1:92 of the Homestead Works also: elected mem. B'd Mg'rs, Car- negie Company, 1-96, and its pres. 1897, and when the Carnegie interests were merged in the larger U. S. Steel Corp'n. in 1901, became pres. of the latter until 1904, when he re- signed the presidency. Now pres. Bethlehem Steel Corp'n, trustee N. Y. Trust Co., direc- tor in Carnegie Steel Co. and many other iron, steel. coal and coke corporations. Built a magnificent Catholic Ch. at Loretto, Pa., and established a complete electric lighting plant there; built a convent house at Cresson, Pa., a thoroughly equipped industrial school at Homestead. Pa., and fitted up. on the Southern Shore of Staten Island. N. Y., a sanitarium . for sick and crippled children during the summer months. Has summer residence at Braddock.
