Y .; elected supervisor of Franklinville, 1876; elected surrogate of Cattaraugus Co., 1879, and reelected in 1885, holding the office twelve years; in Jan., 1895 appointed justice of Supreme Court by Gov- ernor Morton, and elected Nov., 1595, on Re- publican ticket, for full term expiring Dec. 31, 1909; in Jan., 1899, was transferred to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in the Fourth Department and was redesignated in Jan., 1901, to serve as judge in that court until Jan. 9, 1909.
