Sculptor; b. Vienna, Austria, July 9, 1862; s. Ignatz Lajos and Rosalie Konti; ed. in Vienna, where he entered the Imperial Acad- emy of Art, in 1878; finished studies in the Meisterschule of Prof. Karl Kundmann; won a scholarship for two years' study in Rome, at the end of which engaged professionally as sculptor in Vienna until 1890; his work including a memorial to Anastasius Grün, the poet, and a marble bust of the Emperor Francis Joseph, as well as several others, public and private. From 1890-1893 worked for the World's Columbian Exp'n; since then has been engaged in professional work of various kinds. The ideal groups The East and North River and West Indies on the Dewey Arch; several groups for the Pan-Am. Exp'n at Buffalo, 1901, memorial to the Revolutionary soldiers in the Federal Building, at Syracuse; many groups for the Louisiana Purchase Exp'n at St. Louis; the Mckinley Memorial at Philadelphia, in colla- boration with the late Chas.
