1726, Jun. 14. The Assembly ordered that if he and Stephen Northup, could not agree within three months, so that the mill dain be erected and built up again, so that said mill be caused to grind. then the Town Council, of North Kingstown, were to have valued the yearly income of land and mill. and right of Elisha Cole, in mill, dams, land, &c., and the vearly damage the sait Stephen Northup shall| sustain by having his land drowned by erecting the dam. The council were then to take the mill. &c., into their custody, paying a certain sum to Cole and Northup yearly, till the latter could agree be- tween themselves to keep the mill going.

1729. He was on the committee to erect the building for Seventh Day Baptist Church, of which he was a member.
1742. He was one of the original members of the Newport Artillery Company.
1748, Jun. He deeded a lot for the use of Redwood Library, and the building now in use was erected thercon. He was on the committee that superintended the building of this edirice.
1750, Sep. 4. He and others signed a petition to the King, praying that the Assembly might be re- strained from making or emitting any more bills of public credit upon loan, without royal permission, the sum on loan already amounting to 2500,000. worth at time of issue £78,111, sterling, but at present only £35,445. Amongst those whose estates were involved in the loan were numbers of widows and orphans, who were grievously injured, oppressed and almost ruined.
1763. He was one of those instrumental in building the Market House (now used for the City Hall). He was one of the proprietors of Long wharf, &c. He ordered portraits made by Smibert, of not only himself, but of Rev. John Callendar and Bishop Berkeley.

1676, Oct. 18. He was sued by Samuel Reape. for slander, defamation, &c., and the case was left to arbitration.

1679, He was ordered to move his shop at Newport, to another lot, and if he disobeyed, it was to be pulled down.
1679, Dec. 5. He had a deed of 200 acres, in Narragansett, being part of 7,630 acres laid out by Samuel Wilbur, to Jireh Bull and twenty- four others.
1683, Oct. 20. Kings Town. He, calling himself " Late of Portsmouth, planter," sold John Shel- don, 230 seres in Narragansett, near Pettacom- scott, for £7, being the land " grauted to me by William Brenton, Benedict Arnold," &c.

His signature was made to deeds, &c., by mark Z, while his son Benjamin, signed by mark O. 1715. Jul. 2. Will-proved 1718, Dec. 10. Exs. wife Elizabeth und son John. To sons Wil- liam, Joun, Benjamin and James, 5s. each, they ) having had their portions. To daughters Eliza -! beth Wells and Susanna Northup, turer cows! each, and to grand-daughter Elizabeth Wells, al cow. at decense of wife. To wile, household goods at ber disposal, and the farm, orchard and housing, for life. To son Jobn, two cows and a heifer.
Inventory, £38, viz : cows, sheep, 4 silver spoons, ; wine glasses, earthiern and pewter ware, iron ; pots, skillet, warming pao, napkins, toweis, wearing apparel, bel, &c.
