1653, Dec. 17. Ilis land is mentioned as adjoining that of George Kenrick, of Newport, in & deed of the latter to William Field, ot Providence. 1655. Onlained in this year.
1656. He and William Vanghan and some others left the First Baptist Church and formed a congregation known as the Second Baptist Church, of which be was tor a time pas- tor. The reasons given for this separation are thus stated : " Said persons conceived a preju- dice against psalauxly, and against the re- straints that the liberty of prophesying, was ltd under, and also against the doctrine of particular redemption, and against the rite of laying on of hands as a matter of indifference."
1686. Kings Town. He removed thence shout this time and gathered a church together. of which he became the first pastor, otheisting for many years in that capacity, his successor, Richard Sweet, following iu 1710.

1793. Nov. 13. He derdet consin (i. e. nephew), Peter Ballou, for love, &c., half of a quarter of a forty foot lot, whereon sal Peter's house standIs, being laid out in original right of my honored father, Ma- turin, deceased.
1790. Jul. 27. He deeded son Samuel. all my homes'end farm where I now dwell, houses, buildings, de., and on same date deeded to son Nehemiah, half a right of common, west side of Seven Mile Line, with ali the land already laid out there, 200 acres, more or less, being land my said soo now dweileth on.
1734. Apr. 20. Smithfield. He made his will, but it was never probated. Ex. son Samuel. To son Nehemiah, wearing clothes, chest, feather bed, gun, &c. To daughters Susannah Inman and Bath- sheba Arnold, a trunk each. To children James, Nathaniel, Obadiah, Susannsh and Bathsheba, the goris, &c., in above trunks. To son Samuel, rest of morables.
1741. Apr. 18. He distributed part of his morable estate to children, except Samuel, and took receipts from them.
1744. Jun. 15. He deeded to son Samuel, for love. &c., and in consideration of what said son hath done | for me these sixteen years past, in isintenance, &c., and for future maintenance, all movable estate in Smithheld.

1718. Aug. 25. He testitied calling himself aged about fifty-five years, that his sister Hannah, died in) the fore part of Jan., 1712. His wife Barbara, aged about forty-six years, testified that her mother-in- law Hannah Ballou, had no more understanding than a child when her sister-in-law, Hannah Ballou ! died. 1725, Jul. 2. He sold Joshua Winsor, for £10, certain lands and commons in original right of my hon- ored father, Maturin Ballou.

To wife Birbara, feather bed, 3 cows, chest, box. 1 ewe, 1 lamb, 1 pair worste i combs. 2 basins. 9 spoons. 2 trenchers, &c., and use of fire room for life. To granddaughters Phobe and Jerusha King, their mother Puebe King, deceased, already : having bad estate. To daughter Martha Ballou, i cow, 1 teather bed, 1 shest. t mare and two colts. I To 4 children Jeremiah Ballou, Birbara Inman, Jemima Sprague and Martha Ballou, all rest of mov- ables equally. Son Jeremiah to provide for wife as maintenance, &c.

1609. Jun. 10. He was drowned at this date, as shown by testimony and Coroner's inquest. Philip Taber, of Providence, aged 64 years, testified that he beiag in his own house, suddenly heard a noise of hollosing, &c., and went down to the river, which runneth by his house and saw William Wicken -. den, who told him there wa- a child drowned, and arriving at the river si le, saw a lad lie dead in the bottom of the river, who Win. Wickenden took out, and Win. Wickenden's wife came down and taking an apron off the widow Billou, who cune down and stood a pretty way off the child, laid the apron on the lad, &c., and on Taver's asking whose lad it was. Wm. Wickenden made answer it was the widow Ballou's lad. Testimony was also given by Jane Taber, aged of years. Verdict of Coru- ner's inquest " that the Int, the widow Ballou, her son, named Samuel Ballou, going into the river which runneth to the mill in Providence, to wash himself, was by a Providence of God drowned."
