1656, Jus. 7. The birth of his oldest son was recorded at Boston.


1677, Jul. He bought 180 acres of Amos Richardson, of Stonington, agreeing to pay him therefor by building one or more vessels off fifty tons in all. The land purchased was on the east side of the Pawcatuck River and was thus in the territory long in dispute between Connecticut and Rhode Island.


1679. Westerly. He came in this or previous year but was warned off by the Rhode Island authorities as an intruder, and refused therefore to fulfill his contract with Mr. Rich-i urdson, till the latter should make good the title to land.


1679, Sep. 17. He took oath of allegiance in Rhode Island.


1680, Mar. He was arrested and imprisoned on the suit of Mr. Richardson, who laid damazes at £300. The constable was Stephen Richard- son (son of plaintiff), and the Rhode. Istand | authorities soon retaliated on behalf of Wells by arresting the Connecticut constable and im- prisoning him from July to October, for exercis- ing his office by arresting Wells within the Jurisdiction of Rhode Island.


1699, Dec. 27. Will-proved 1700, Feb. 12. Ext. wife Naomi To eldest son Josepb. s., he having had double portion already. Sou Thomas had already received his portion also in a horse and neat cattle valued at £7. There was a Francis West of Duxbury. Mass., who married Margery Reeves, 1639, Feb. 27, and bad children Samuel, Peter, Pelatish and Richard. He died 1692, Jan. 2, and could not have been iden- tical with Francis ot Kings Town, though he may have been related to the Rhode Island Wests.

1635. Nov. 3. It was ordered that John Prase "shall be whipped and bound to his good behaviour for striking his mother Mrs. Weston," &c.


1637. He gave his grounds of with drawal from the church, one of his reasons bring " that which is now called damnable was once called law ful."


His wife had signed the church covenant this year, but afterwards taxed the minister with byporisy, &c., and ber case was referred to the next meeting.


1633. Mar. 12. He and others of Salem, having bad license to depart from Massachusetts, they were ordered to appear (if they be not gone before) at the next court, to answer such things as shall be objected.


1633, Jun. 5. Ilis wife was " censured to be set two hours in the billboes here (Boston) and two bours at Salem upon a lecture day.'


1638. Oct. 3. Providence. He was one of the twelve persons to whom Roger Williams deeded land that Le bad bought of Canonicus and Jiantonomi.


1639. He was one of the twelve original members of First Baptist church.


1641. Nov. 17. He and others of Pawtuxet were complained of by a portion of their neighbors who wrote to the Massachusetts authorities asking their aid: The letter charges that Weston had refused to satisfy a debt of $15. found due by arbitrators, whereupon " we went to attach some of his cattle to impound." Weston " came furiously running with a dail in his hand, and cried out . Help Sirs : Help Sirs! They are going to steal my cattle.'" Weston's friends then came running to his assistance, crying " Thieves ! Thieves ' Stealing! cattle! Stealing cattle!" The Weston party | were successful and carried away the cattle | " and then presumptuously answered they had made a rescue."
