To grandson Jesse, son of Richard, 20 acres at Musket's Plain, west of Seven Mile Line, and GO acres at the Neck in Providence, joining on the east side of old homestead where I dweil. To Richard, also, negro girl Phillis till forty, and then freed, silver cup, feather bed, wearing apparel, carpenter's and coopers tools. To old negro woman Sylvia, her bed and bedding. To negro girl Sylvia, the younger, an absolute freedom from 1 any service, duty or slavery to any person whatsoever, without her own consent, her said freedom and i manumission to commence at my decease. His son and namesake Richard, lived to even a greater age than his father, and celebrated his one hun- dredth year by inviting his friends to a dance, at which ne played on a violin for their amusement, as is declared.

1661, Nov. 1. Westerly. He and Tobias Saund- ers, were arrested by Walter Palmer, constable, and soon after brought before Governor John Endicott, chargul with forcible cotry and in- trusion luto the bounds of Southertown, in the Pequot country. He acknowledged he was upon the xune land and built a atnall house there. They were committed to prison, both refusing to tind security for appearance at Geu- eral Court.


1682. May 23. In a letter from Rhode Island to Massachusetts, mention is made of the imprison- ment by the latter state of Robert Burdick aud Tobias Saunders, for not producing their deeds of Narragansett lands.


1660, May 19. His name was in a list of inbabi- tants of Westerly.


1671, May 17. He took oath of allegiance. 1675, Jul. He and his family came to New- port on account of the Indian war, returning to Westerly subsequently.


1679, Sep. 17. He took oath of allegiance. 1680-83-85. Deputy.


1683, Sep. 25. Samuel Hubbard, having returned to Newport, from a journey to Bye, &c., de- tailed some events of the trip. He says: "at Westerly, the first day after the Sabbath, brother Burdick buried a son," and among others there, I were grandson John Phillips, and Ruth bis wife, and Benjamin Burdick ; "a very great burial, above twenty hurses."


1691, May 17. He and wife Ruth, sold John Ma- coone 100 acres, for £10.
