1745, Jan. 16. Charlestown. He bought 130 acres for £270. from George Ninegret, " Chief Sachem of the Narragansett Country in New England, Indian." This Indian sachem wis crownel 1795, and died 1746. He was son of King Ninegret", who died 1722, and grandson of Ninegret1, of whom a portrait has been preserved. George Ninerret (Ninegret". Ninegreth, was succeeded by his sou Thomas4, who died after the year 1765, and the latter's sister Esther was then crowned with great poinp and ceremony according to the account given, some twcoty Indians escorting her to Corona- tion Rock in Charlestown. She was succeeded by her son Georges, who reigned during the Revolutionary War, and who was accidentally killed by the fall of a tree when he was twenty-two years of age.

Having been sent with another messenger to petition the General Court of Massachusetts (in matters then in difference between Warwick and Massachusetts), he learned at Dedham that the Court bad adjourned, and hence wrote the following letter under above date, from the ing of Michael Powell, at Dedham.
" To the right worshipful Mr. John Winthrop, Governor of the Massachu- seits: Humbly presented to your worship's consideration. That whereas i, with another, was chosen by the General Court bald at Providence the l eighteenth of this month, and sent with an humble request to this honour- able state concerning Shaomet business but when we came to Dedham bearing that the General Court was adjourned. I. your suppliant (being an inhabitant of Shaomet), seriously weighing my present con lition there, I made bold to advise with Mr. Powell concerning the same, who advised me to repair to your worship, which (on consideration) I could not, till i had some knowledge of your worship's favourable acceptation. My humble request therefore is, that your worship would be pleased to send me your mind in a few lines concerning the premises. To son Anthony, at age, half a farm in Natick, xod rights in Warwick, but wife to cujoy a third of profits while widow.
