1671, Dec. 23. Samuel Hubbard, of Newport. Wrote as follows: " We entered into a church covenant the 2341 day of December, 1671, viz : William Hiscox, Stephen Mumford. Samuel i Hubbard, Roger Buster, sister Hubbard, sister Mumford, sister Rachel Langworthy," &c.


1675. Mar. 14. He wrote from London : " About | the 14th of January, we suled from Boston and had a comfortable time aud fair wind for three ; weeks, in which time we came to soundings. ast they judged near the I-le of Scilly, and then we| met with a cross wind that kept is three weeks more, and then we came to anchor io & road ' between the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth. I! took my journey to London in the waggon. where I was received by the brethren with much joy, in some of them who had a great desire to licar of our place and people ; some of them lalk of coming with me."


1675, Oct. Ile arrived at Boston on his way back from England, being accompanied by William Gibson and his wife.

His second wife had four husbands, viz: - Pepper, Richard Jenkins, Joseph Rogers and Stephen Mumford.


He was buried in Newport Cemetery, as was his first wife.

1708, Oct. 27. He was appointed on a commission to agree with Ninegret what may be a sufficient competency of land for him and his men to live upon ; and to view the state of the country in Narragansett, in order for the settling of a new town.

1606, May 14. He wrote a letter dated Newport, | to John Ifull of Boston (one of his associates in i the Pettacomscott Purchase); " Mir best respects i presented to yourself and Mrs. Hull. Sir, my i request to you is that you would be pleased to ; come up to the island, for there is very great | necessity of your being Lere, both concerning t our accounts and our deeds." 1670, Jun. 21. He was complained of by the com- missioners of Connecticut, sitting at Wickford, for assaulting and detaining " two of our meni who were inoffensively nding on the Kinz'-I highway." The letter was addressed to Samuel Wilson, who delivered the muen to the Connect- Icut authorities.


1670, Jus. 20. Ile was allowed 204. for bis attend- ance upon the Rhode Island Commissioners to New London.

The Assembly voted that whereas Walter Newbury, of Newport, ke, made his wife Ann, his executrix, and did bequeath to his children, eight in number, $100 n;Hece, and the remainder res! and personal, to his wife | Ann; and the executrix having madle legal proof that she had disposed of all the personal and yet not fully acquitted delfs, and the will having omitted the words her heirs and assigns. It bath much hindered the advantage of advanc. ing the said real estate, as holters, warrhodes, &c., on sale thereof; it was therefore enacted that she have power to make sale of any of all real estate.
