1692, Mar. 7. He deeded son Thomas, "for and in consideration of his care and diligence in providing for myself and his aged mother," all right of land appertaining to homestead, together with my house, housing, fencing, meadow ground, orchard, stones and timber. with all appurtenances whatsoever, &c .- pro- vided said Thomas "shall provide suficient maintenance for myself and my wife during our natural life." The land was bounded partly by James Thornton's and partly by Joun Thomton, Jr.'s, land. The grantor put his son Thomas into actual possession, together with all cattle and movable estate whatsoever, with the obliga- tion to pay eich of my children, 2s., 6d., after my decease, and to cach grandchild, le., and if wife should outlive grantor, son Thomas was to maintain her at any other'chiki's house if she wished to move.

1643. Jul. 6. He obtainedl a grant of land for himself and thirty-five associates, of Governor Kieft in New York. It was situated at what is | now called Throgg's Neck (an abbreviation for ) Throckinorton. His settlement here was buti brief, for Mr. Winthrop records in september of | this year, that the Indians set upon the English who dwelt under the Dutch, and killeit " such ; of Mr. Throckmorton's and Mr. Cornbill's ; families as were at home." Ile further says of the English settlers " these people had cast od ordinances aud churches, and now at last their ; own people, and for larger accomodation hadi subjected themselves to the Dutch, and dwelti scatteringly near a mile asunder." Some that i escaped from the Indian attack, he says, went back to Rhode Island.

To son Joseph and daughter Rebecca, the above house and Finds at death of wife, and also certain other land. To daughters Sarah, Patience, Alice and Deliverance, the rest of lind equally. He reserved 1f aere for a burial plot where | my father is buried in Middletown.

He being about to go to sea devises all real estate anywhere in the world to the heir male of John Throckmorton, of East Jersey. nanel Joseph Throckmorton and his heirs forever. The personal estate to be disposed of as laws of respective places where it lies shall order. He desires that his brother Jobn Throckmorton shall be guardian for said Joseph.
