Resolved, That the fifth & Sixth Classes of the Militia of this City, & the Townships & district annexed, be immediately ordered out.

An order was drawn on Mr. Towers, in favour of Bartram Gal- braith, Esq'r, for One thousand Musquet Cartridges, One hundred Pounds of Powder & Two hundred & fifty pounds of Lead.
The two Armies being now engaged, & the event doubtful,
Ordered, That all Shops & Stores be immediately Shut up, ex- cept those only where workmen are employed in making or repairing the Public Arms, & that every Man capable of bearing arms, or repairing Arms repair to his Captains' Quarters at Two O'Clock this Afternoon.
The Commissioned Officers are hereby Commanded to exert themselves in the execution of this Order, & order that the Drums beat to Arms immediately.
Ordered, That Colo. Heister, Colo. Corsey, Colo. Antis, & Colo. Dean's respective Battalions, do immediately rendezvous at the Sweed's Ford, & that Colo. Moore, Colo. Mc Veaugh, rendezvous at the Falls of Schuylkill, & Colo. Warner's at Derby.
Ordered, That the issuing Commissary supply Provisions to the Militia at the Sweed's Ford, Schuylkill Falls, & Derby.

Ordered, That every able bodied man in the County of Bucks, turn out with his Arms, accoutrements & blankets, & that those who cannot furnish themselves with Arms to take with them Axes, spades, & every other kind of entrenching Tools, & that Colonel Roberts, Erwin, & Killer, rendezvous at the Sweed's Ford, and that Colo's Toomb & McElwaine rendezvous at this City.

Resolved, That James Mastin, 2d Will'm Parker, 3d Joshua Milott, 4th Martin Longstreath, 5th Tho's Paxton, 6th Robert Scott, 7th Robert Galbraith, be appointed Justices of the Peace for the said County of Bedford.
Ordered, That a Dedimus Potestatum be made out Authorizing & empowering Robert Galbraith, Esq'r, James Martin, & Thomas Urie, Esq'rs, to Administer the Oaths required by the Constitution & laws of this Commonwealth, to Qualify the aforesaid Magistrates & the other Civil Officers appointed or to be appointed in the said County of Bedford.
Ordered, That the Officers commanding the Militia of the County of Bucks, now at the Barracks, do immediately send a guard of Four Men to Robin Hood Ford, over the Schuylkill, four Men to the upper Ferry, Four Men to the Bridge, & four Men to Gray's Ferry, to take care of the Artillery placed at those places.

Ordered, That Mr. Lowden & Mr. Hoge be appointed to have the Money & Papers belonging to the Public Loan Office removed to Easton, in the County of Northampton, and John Snyder, Hen'y Bartholomew, was employed with a Waggon to convey it to the said place.
Ordered, That Colo. Nicola furnish a guard of Two Men to go with the said Waggoners. These Papers, &ca. are contained in a case, a Barrel, & an Iron Chest.
Mr. Tilghman and Mr. Reed, by order of Gen'l Washington, request that the Bridge may be immediately removed ; thereupon
Ordered, That Major Casdorp do immediately & effectually re- move the Bridge at the Middle Ferry on Schuylkill, & bring it away into Delaware, & bring over all the Boats of every kind from the West of Delaware ; Two boats are to be removed from the upper Ferry into the cove below Mr. Morris's, & placed under a guard, the other Boats to be placed so as to be entirely out of the reach of the enemy; but the Orders of the general officers are to be obeyed on these heads, whether they are to be exactly ordered as above, or a new arrangement made.
Ordered, That Matt'w Irwin be appointed Quarter Master of the Militia of this State, & that he Rank as Lieutenant Colonel.

Ordered, That Colo. Flower employ Jas Worrell, Francis Alli- son & Mr. Evans, Carpenters, or such other workmen as he may think proper to employ, to take down the Bells of all the public Buildings in this City, & convey them to a place of safety.

Resolved & Ordered, That John Haley, Esq'r, who has been appointed Clerk of the Orphan's Court of the City & County of Philadelphia, do demand of Jas Humphreys, Esq'r, late Clerk of the late Orphans' Court of the City and County of Philadelphia, the immediate delivery of all the Records, Papers & Seals to the said late Office of Clerk to the Orphans' Court, belonging, or which have been used in the said Office, and that the said John Haley be empowered to remove the said Records & Papers to a place of safety, .& in case Mr. Humphreys make any difficulty in the Premises, Mr. Haley is to report the same to Council without delay, that further order may be had in the Premises.

The following orders were drawn on Dav'd Rittenhouse, Esq'r. Treasurer of the State, in favor of Fred'k Snyder, for the Sum of Thirty Pounds Sixteen Shillings & three Pence, for Forty days at- tendance as doorkeeper, & for Wafers, Nails, & a Map.
In favor of Edw'd Stroud for the Sum of Ten Pounds Four Shil- lings, for riding Express.
In favor of Mich'l Bowyer for the Sum of Twenty-four Pounds Twelve Shillings, for Riding Express.
Mr. Lowdan & Mr. Hoge, appointed to remove the Public Monies & Papers of the Loan Office of this State to some place of security, Report, That they had applied to Sam'l Preston Moore, Esq'r, one of the Trustees of the said Loan Office, for the said Monies & Books & Papers thereto belonging, and that they had received of the said Mr. Moore a large Iron Chest containing Forty-two bundles of Paper money, said to be the balance of Principal & Interest re- maining in the hands of the Trustees of the General Loan Office of Pennsylvania, as settled by a Committee of Assembly in August last, Amounting to Thirteen Thousand One Hundred & Thirty- Eight Pounds Eighteen Shillings & Two Pence, & the Mortgages taken by the said Trustees for Money lent out, together with another bundle of Paper Money said to contain the Ballance of sundry Mortgages due to the old Loan office & Committed to the care of the said Mr. Moore, amounting to the Sum of Seven hun- dred & Seventy-four Pounds & nine Shillings, & that the said Mr. Moore also delivered to them the Keys of said Chest, but the said Monies had not been counted for want of time.
Mr. Moore acquainted them that the Deeds of the borrowers lodged in the said Office, were in the posession of Humphrey Mar- shall of Chester County ; another of the Trustees of said Office, & the Books of said Office, had already been delivered to the said Committee.
Ordered, That the said Chest with its said contents, be immedi- ately sent to East town & committed to the care of Rob't Levers, Esq'r, of said place.
Some information by affidavit & verbally, being given to Coun- cil by George Stevenson, Esq'r, of Carlisle, of divers treasonable & dangerous intentions and designs of levying men & destroying the Public Stores at York, Lancaster & Carlisle & elsewhere, in which Will'm Willis; of Newberry, & James Rankin of Manches- ter, in York County, John Ferree of Lancaster County, Yoemen, & divers other persons, are said to be actually concerned ; and it ap- pearing that Daniel Shelly, of Shelly Island, in Lancaster County, Yeoman, hath been actively concerned in the Treasonable designs aforesaid, & that he is now in Custody on a charge on Oath, as one of the persons actively concerned in the Treasonable designs afore- said, & that he is willing & offers to discover & give evidence in the Premises against the accomplices & all others concerned in the said Conspiracy & every of them, as he knoweth, so as to convict

his said accomplices ; The Council thereupon after due considera- tion had, do Promise to the said Dan'l Shelly, that if he shall fairly reveal & make known the designs of said persons, & conduct him- self in the Premises as a witness ought to do, he will thereby merit his Pardon, for any thing he may have acted or done of a treason- able nature, & may be assured of receiving it.
The Petition of Jerman Davis, John Bailey, Isaac Johnson, James Chalfont, Tho's Agnew, Benja. Trego, Jos. Trego, Jas. Chalfont, jun'r, & John Simkins, setting forth that they had been committed to Prison by Capt. Bailey without any just cause, de- claring their innocence of any charge which may be alledged against them as disaffected persons, & praying a hearing,

Ordered, That the said Prisoners be enlarged on their sign- ing a Promise or Parole that they will do nothing injurious to the American cause, and appear to answer any charge which may be made against them.

Nesbitt to receive the bodies of Isr'l Pemberton, John Hunt, James Pemberton, John Pemberton, Tho's Wharton, Edw'd Pennington, Henry Drinker, Tho's Fisher, (son of Joshua) Sam'l Fisher, (son of Joshua) Myers Fisher, Sam'l Pleasants, Owen Jones, jun'r, Tho's Gilpin, Cha's Jervis, Tho's Afflick, Will'm Drewit Smith, Tho's Pike, Will'm Smith, Elijah Brown, & Charles Eddy, who have been, in consequence of the recommendation of Congress, Arrested & sent forward towards Winchester in Virginia, and them to deliver to Jacob Morgan or John Old, to be forwarded to the place of their destination.
An order was drawn on Dav'd Rittenhouse, Esq'r, Treasurer of the State, in favor of James Dundas, for the Sum of Five hundred Pounds, to be charged to Jac'b S. Howell, and applied to the pay- ing Workmen, &ca, for which he is to account. This order was omitted on the 15th, being dated yesterday.
An order was drawn on Dav'd Rittenhouse, Esq'r. Treasurer of the State, in favour of his Excell'y the President, for the Sum of Seven Hundred & Fifty Pounds, being one half Year's Salary due to him.
Ordered, That the Lieutenants or Sub-Lieutenants of County of Berks & Cumberland, do provide Guards from the Militia that are called into service, or may hereafter be called, to guard Ammu- nition, Stores or Prisoners, when necessary, unless a sufficient num- ber can be hired on reasonable terms, to perform that duty.

Ordered, That Capt. Joseph Stiles take charge of Wort & Brooks' two shallops with Ammunition on board, & remove them to a place of safety.
Bristol may, at present a place of safety.
The two following orders were drawn on Dav'd Rittenhouse, Esq'r, Treasurer of the State, & ordered to be charged to Jacob S. Howell, Vizt :
In favor of Rob't Towers for the Sum of Fifty Pounds, for which he is to account.
In favor of Captain Joseph Stiles for the Sum of One hundred & fifty Pounds.
Mr. Pearson & others of the Committee appointed to drive off the Cattle, complain that persons in whose Pastures they are ne- cessarily put from time to time, threaten to turn them out.
On consideration,
Ordered, That the respective Committees appointed to drive off the Cattle on the approach of the Enemy, do make use of such Meadows or Pastures as they may find necessary, & give to the Owners or Occupiers of such Meadows or Pastures a Certificate of the Number of the Cattle pastured, & the time they were continued, this Certificate to be directed to Jacob S. Howell, who will pay the same price as is allowed by the Continental Army in like cases.
'The following Recommendation of the Hon'ble House of As- sembly being read, vizt:
" In General Assembly, Septem. 16, 1777.
" On motion,
" Ordered, That Benja. Vancampen, Esq'r, be recommended to His Excell'y the President & Council, to be Commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant for the County ot Northampton.
" Extract from the Minutes.
" JOHN MORRIS, Cl'k of General Assembly."
Thereupon,
Ordered, That Benja. Van Campen be Commissioned accord- ingly.
An order was drawn on Dav'd Rittenhouse, Esq'r, Treasurer of the State, in favor of Abram Mason, (sail maker,) for the Sum of One hundred & forty eight Pounds Eighteen Shillings & Nine Pence, for work done for the State Laboratory.
