Ordered, That the Corporal Punishment of the said John Young be remitted, he entering into the Continental Army, to serve three Years or during the present war.
The two following orders were drawn on the Treasurer, for the recruiting Service, Vizt :
In favor of Philip Gibbons, Lieut. in the Sixth Pennsylvania Reg't, for One hundred & fifty Dollars, for which he is to account. In favor of Capt. Jacob Monser of the sixth Pennsylv'a Reg't, for One hundred & fifty Dollars, for which he is to account.
An order was drawn on the Treasurer in favor of the Hon'ble George Bryan, Esq'r, for the Sum of Four hundred & Fifty Pounds, balance of his half year's salary, due the first of March last.
Capt. Joseph Blewer of the Navy board, attended the Council, and informed that it was intended to have sunk the Gondolas, &ca., on Tuesday last, near Trenton, & therefore, there cannot be any further use in continuing the Men belonging to them at Trenton, and that there is about twenty sick & wounded belonging to the Boats, which require care & attention ; 'That the Ammunition, Sails, Arms, Stores, belonging to the Boats, are at Pitts-town in New Jersey, and require some guards to be kept over them ; That the Cannon & shot are sunk in different places in New Jersey ; That about 76 pieces of Canvas & some Oznabrigs, which were on board the Store Sloop, was at Northampton, under the care of Capt. Joseph Stiles.
Ordered, That all the Linens in possession of Capt. Joseph Stiles at Northampton, suitable for the purpose, be made up into Shirts for the Soldiers ; & that he be requested to get them made

Ordered, That the men belonging to the Navy be ordered up to this borough, under the direction of such Officers as the Navy Board, to whom they are best known, may judge most proper, & that two Months' Pay, over & besides what is due to them, be paid to the remaining Officers & then discharged, as there appears not to be any further service for them at present; That a small guard be left at Pitts Town until the Stores be removed ; That the Sick be ordered to this Borough, by way of Reading; That the Am- munition & most valuable Stores be removed from Pitts town to Easton, in the County of Northampton, & the remainder com- mitted to the care of Mr. Moore Furman ; That the Waggon Mas- ter of the County of Bucks, furnish Waggons to the State Navy Board for the removal of the Sick & baggage from Trenton to this. borough ; That the Waggon Master of the County of Northamp- ton furnish Waggons to the State Navy Board for the removal of the Stores from Pitts town, in New Jersey, to Easton, in this State.

Lang & Mr. Bayly report, That they had received from Alex'a White, Esq'r, who acted for & in behalf of Joseph Holmes, Esq'r, Deputy Commissary of Prisoners, the following persons, agreeable to the orders of this Council, Vizt : 1 Israel Pemberton, 2 James Pemberton, 3 John Pemberton, 4 Henry Drinker, 5 Sam- uel Pleasants, 6 Will'm Smith, 7 Edw'd Pennington, 8 Tho's Wharton, 9 Owen Jones, 10 Charles Eddy, 11 Charles Jervis, 12 Elijah Brown, 13 Thomas Fisher, 14 Sam'l R. Fisher, and 15 Myers Fisher ; and that the said Gentlemen were now in this bo- rough, agreeable to the order of Council.
They also report that they had received at the same time the three following persons, Vizt : William Rodan, formerly of Phila- delphia, Waterman, Thomas Patterson, formerly a servant of Mr. Dav'd Sproat of Philadelphia, & Jacobus Quigg, late of New Jersey, who had been sent to Virginia with the aforesaid Prisoners,. and that they had been informed by Alex'a White, Esq'r, that Thomas Gilpin & John Hunt were dead.

Thomas Afflick, one of the Prisoners sent to Virginia, having obtained leave to come to this borough, in consideration of the dangerous illness of his Wife, being also arrived here,
Ordered, That John Rodan, Tho's Patterson & Jacobus Quigg, be sent to Goal until further examined.
The case of the Prisoners brought from Virginia, & now in this borough, being considered ; thereupon,
Ordered, That they be immediately sent to Pottsgrove in the County of Philadelphia, & there discharged from confinement ; and that they be furnished with a copy of the order, which shall be deemed a discharge.
NOTE, under the Certified Copy of this Resolve, given to the respective Gentlemen, the following Certificate was inserted & signed by the Secretary, Vizt :
(A. B.,) of the City of Philadelphia, Gentleman, one of the Prisoners referred to by the above order of Council, is hereby permitted, with his Horses, Servants & Baggage, to pass unmoles- ted into the County of Philadelphia, agreeable to the said order, which is to be respected as their discharge.
Mr. John Pemberton's tender conscience being hurt by the words, " agreeable to the said order, &ca.," the Secretary inserted in his Certificate the following, "and he is there to be considered as dis- charged."
A pass to Philadelphia for Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Pemberton, Mrs. Pleasants & Mrs. Drinker, & for Israel Morris, who attended them, being requested ;
On consideration,
Ordered, That a Pass be granted to the aforesaid persons, with their servant, to return to Head Quarters, & from thence to Phila- delphia, if Gen'l Washington shall think it proper for them so to do.
The following orders were drawn, Viz't :
In favor of " Mr. Will'm Hart, or his order, for the Sum of One thousand Pounds, for the purpose of purchasing Horses for the use of the Army, and inform Dav'd Rittenhouse, Esq'r, Treasurer there- with, that he may charge Mr. Hart with that Sum, & Credit the same to Col. Joseph Kirkbride, Lieut. of the County of Bucks."
This order directed Col. George Wall, jun'r, Sub-Lieut. of the County of Bucks, and an order on the same Gentleman in favor of " Mr. Jos. Greer, one of the Commissioners of Bucks County, for purchasing provisions, &ca. for the Sum of Two hundred Pounds, and inform Dav'd Rittenhouse, Treasurer of the State, therewith;" in order that he may charge the same to Mr. Greer, & Credit Colo- nel Joseph Kirkbride, Lieutenant of Bucks County.

In favor of Capt. Matt'w Scott, of the 13th Penns'a Battalion, for the Sum of Three hundred Dollars, for the recruiting Service, for which he is to account.
"In the present important crisis of public affairs, & according to the late call of Congress, the Supreme Executive Council of this State do hereby strictly charge all Officers employed in recruiting the Continental Battalions of this State, to make the most strenu- ous exertions, & redouble their endeavours to complete the same without loss of time.
" And Council recommend to the Lieutenants and Sub-Lieuten- ants, & all other Officers of the Militia, to use their utmost efforts to prepare for the immediate march of four Classes, the next in turn, upon any emergency.

An order was drawn on the Treasurer in favor of Capt. Thomas Bull for the Sum of Seven hundred & Eighty Dollars, for the recruiting service, for which he is to account. And an order was drawn on the Treasurer in favor of Lieut. Arch'd Campble for the Sum of Five hundred & forty Dollars, for the Recruiting service, & for which he is to account.

John Rudolph applied to Council, agreeable to the order of Gen'l Washington, for the Horses now in this Borough belonging to the Continent ; And the orders were drawn directing Mr. Adam Reigart & Mr. George Ross, to deliver to Lieut. John Rudolph the Horses put into their hands by Commissioners appointed to pur- chase Horses for the Continent, & directing them to make return of one Receipt for the same.
An order was drawn on the Treasurer in favor of Col. Samuel Smith, for the Sum of Thirteen Pounds & Ten Shillings, to be charged to Congress, as expence in collecting Cloathing for the Troops, (being the expences of procuring the Cloth seized in the great Swamp, be- longing to Mr. Joseph Carson.)
The Hon'ble Vice President reports, That he had received from Mr. James Bryson, of this Borough, on the Thirtieth day of April last, Five hundred & Ninety-one Tickets in the United States Lot- tery, agreeable to a Resolve of the Treasury Board of the Eighth day of January last, & that he had delivered them to His Excell'y the President; the Numbers are as follows, Vizt :
"Thirty thousand Nine hundred & Sixteen, to Thirty thousand Nine hundred & Ninety-six, both numbers inclusive, are Eighty-one Tickets.
" Thirty-one thousand and Six to Thirty-one thousand & Sixty- eight, both numbers included, are Sixty-three Tickets.

The Secretary laid before the Council a Letter from Ja's Hamil- ton, Esq'r, requesting a Pass for "himself" & four Servants, namely "Matthias Sandham" his Butler, Two Mullatto Men, " Jonathan & Luke" "the one Footman, the other Coachman, & one Negro Woman Cook, called Fanny ; and also a protection for one baggage Waggon & its driver, to go to Philadelphia & return" to Northampton.
The same being taken into consideration, & it appearing that Mr. Hamilton has a dangerous disorder in his Nose, which it is supposed renders the advice & assistance of a Physician now in Philadelphia, absolutely necessary in the case ; thereupon,
Ordered, That a Pass for James Hamilton, Esq'r, & one Ser- vant, to go into Philadelphia, there to remain not exceeding two Weeks, & that the same be made out and sent to Robert Levers, Esquire, of Easton, to be delivered to Mr. Hamilton on his taking the Oath of Allegiance to this State, according to Law, & produ- cing to Mr. Levers a Certificate of his having done so.

" Secondly, Taking the said names Alphabetically, you are to in- sert in the same Book, after each name, the several Estates whereof

the former Owners were respectively seized or possessed, describing the County, Township, & Street, (if in the City of Philadelphia, Southwark, or the Northern Liberties), the Quantity of land, & na- ture of the Estate, whether Fee-Simple for life, of themselves or others, Lease-hold, Ground rents, or of whatever Quality soever the Estate may be.
" Thirdly, You are to prepare advertisements of the following 'Tenor :
"' WHEREAS, the Estates or (A, B, C, D, &c.,) late of the County of - -, having been, in due course of Law, forfeited & seized to the use of this State, We, the Subscribers, Agents for the said County, do hereby give notice that the Estates of the said A, B, C, D, &ca, consisting of the Tracts and parcels of Land following, Vizt : (Here insert a short description of the Premises, mentioning the Houses & Quantity of Land, in what Township, Ward, or Street situate, and if the Estate be for life or years let it be men- tioned.) All which will be sold by Public Vendue, at the Court House at , on the -
day of - (not less than Thirty Days from the Publication of the Advertisement in some News Paper of this State, & also in the County,) & continuing the sales from day to day, till the whole be disposed of.' -
" The terms of sale will be according to Law, as follows, to wit : " One-fourth part of the purchase Money to be paid in 'Ten days after Sale, or the premises again revert to the State, and the Bid- der liable to forfeit the said One-fourth of the Purchase Money. The remainder thereof to be paid in one Month, and on a Certificate being produced from the Agents or either of them, of full Payment of the Purchase Money, a Deed will be given, as by Law directed.
" And we, the said Agents, do also, pursuant to Law, hereby notify the Claimants of the said Premises, or any of them, & Cre- ditors of the said A, B, C, D, &ca., to exhibit their claims & de- mands to the Judges of the Supreme Court, within the time limited by Law, or they will be forever barred from the Recovery thereof. " Fourthly, All reasonable charges of Clerkship & expences for ascertaining the property of the estates be defrayed by the State."

The case of Anthony Denormandie, of Bristol, sent here by His Excell'y Gen'l Washington, from an information said to be laid against him by Colo. Jas. Kirkbride, but no charge sent against him ; on consideration,
Ordered, That on Ant'y Denormandie giving Bail in the Sum of Five hundred Pounds with surety, for his appearing before this Council, to answer such charge as may be made against him within six months, if thereto required, & in the mean time be of good behaviour, he be enlarged & ordered to return to Bristol, by the way of Pottsgrove.

Jacob Arndt, & ! Esq'rs. Murray,
Divers complaints having been made that the High Roads in very many places in this State have been long much neglected, and. are in a ruinous condition, to the great injury of the Public, & the same being considered,
Ordered, That the Supervisors of the Roads & High ways be required, by public notice in the newspapers, without loss of time, to repair and amend the Roads ; and all Magistrates and others be enjoined to exert themselves in making presentments of defects & nusances in the Premises to the Quarter Sessions of the Peace of the respective Counties, or to prosecute & otherwise proceed against all deficient Townships & Supervisors according to Law, that they may be punished, in such manner as their neglect shall require.
The Council resumed the consideration of Mich'l Mulenburgh's Accounts, wherein he. charges 54 days' service in carrying the Prisoners with their Baggage to Winchester in Virginia, & the same appearing an extravagant & unreasonable charge,
Ordered, That he be allowed the sum of One hundred & Thirty- five Pounds, for the said Journey ; and accordingly, An order was drawn on the Treasurer in favor of Mich'l Mulenburgh for the Sum of Sixty Pounds, in full of the said service, (the Sum of Seventy five Pounds having been paid to him on the 24th of March last.)
