49. THOMAS1 CROSBY was born in Yorkshire, England, about 1575, son of Anthony and Alison Crosby of Wheldrake, Yorkshire, whose will, proved 7 Mar., 1599-1600, is on file in Prerogative and Exchequer Court of York. He married 19 Oct., 1600, Jane, daughter of William and Constance (Lambert) Sotheren of Holme-on-Spalding- Moor. She was baptized at Holme, 4 Mar., 1581.
He was of Cambridge about 1639. He, of Rowley, by deed, dated 10 Oct., 1649, sold Edmund Frost of Cambridge, a parcel of land in Cambridge (Middlesex Deeds, 3: 424) ; he, of Rowley, by deed of 1651,

sold an old house and about six acres of land in Cambridge, bounded with Thomas Longhorne (see Richard Longhorne 120) on the east, &c. (Middlesex Deeds, 8: 236) ; he bought, 30: 2 mo. 1656, the house and lot in Rowley of John Haseltine (84) (Essex Deeds, 2 Ips .: 230) ; he and his wife, Jane, by deed of gift, dated 12 Feb., 1658, convey every estate of theirs, both here and in England, to their grandchild, Anthony Crosby (49-5), reserving only their maintenance during life (Essex Deeds, 2 Ips. : 116).
He died in Rowley, and was buried 6 May, 1661. His widow, Jane, was buried 2 May, 1662.

49-4. SIMON, b. about 1608; m. in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, Eng., 21 Apr., 1634, Anne, daughter of Thomas and Isabel (Watson) Brigham of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor. She was sister to Widow Constance Crosby (50). He came to Cambridge, Mass., about 1635 with his wife and child, and was the first Crosby to come to New England. He died in Cambridge, Mass., Sept., 1639.
49-5. DR. ANTHONY3 CROSBY (William 49-3; Thomas 49), bap- tized in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, England, 5 Oct., 1635; was the first physician of record in Rowley; married 28 Dec., 1659, Prudence Wade of Ipswich. Jonathan Wade, of Ipswich, mentions in his will of 22: 3 mo. 1669, child Prudence, wife of Anthony Crosby, and her sons Thomas, Jonathan and Nathaniel (Essex Probate, 304: 125).
He was about 23 years old, 1660 (Ct. R.). His homestead was the dwelling-house and lot formerly of Mr. Henry Sandys (163) and the lot formerly of Mr. Edward Carlton (35), on the northeasterly corner of Central and Cross Streets (Essex Deeds, 3 Ips. : 5). He was buried 16 Jan., 1672-3. The inventory of his estate was taken 19 Feb., 1672-3 (Essex Probate).
His widow, Prudence, married (2) 9 July, 1673, Rev. Seaborn Cotton of Hampton, as his second wife. They had son Rowland, born 29 Aug., 1674; Harvard Coll., 1696; and a son Wade who died young. Rev. Seaborn Cotton died 19 Apr., 1686 (Savage). She married (3) in Rowley, 7 Nov., 1685* (Ct. R.), John Hammond of Watertown. She died 1 Sept., 1711, in her 74th year (G. S. Watertown). The Crosby children moved to Hampton, with their mother; Nathaniel returned and was taxed in Rowley, 1691. See Anthony Austin (7).

1720-1, Hephsibah, daughter of Stephen Pearson (140-12). By deed, acknowledged 16 Mar., 1721-2, he conveyed to his father, John Scott of Rowley, all his part of the estate of his father, Nathaniel Crosby, dec'd, and also what right he may have in his mother Scott's dower (Essex Deeds, 87 : 269).
They moved to Killingly, Conn., where he bought of Samson How, 22 May, 1722, 100 acres of land, and where he died 24 Aug., 1770. Widow Hephsibah died there, 30 Oct., 1771.

CROSBY
50. WIDOW CONSTANCE1 CROSBY had an acre and half house lot, 1643. This lot was, after her death, owned by John Pickard (145), and in later records is called a "two acre lot." It is probable she came with Rev. Ezekiel Rogers' company, bringing her three daughters.
Her husband, Robert Crosby, a relative of Thomas Crosby (49), died before she came to Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Thomas and Isabel (Watson-Ellithorpe) Brigham of Holme-on-Spald- ing-Moor, Yorkshire, England, where she was born about 1602. Thomas Brigham had but two children, Constance and Anne. Anne married Simon Crosby (49-4). Administration on the estate of Thomas Brig- ham of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, was granted 19 Mar., 1632-3 to his daughters Constance Brigham, alias Crosby, and Anna Brigham (Adm. Act Books, P. and E. Court of York, Harthill Deanery). Her mother, Isabel Brigham, was buried in Holme, 25 June, 1634, leaving a will in which she mentions her two daughters: "Item I give to Constance Crosby my daughter Five shillings. Item I give to Anne Crosby my daughter Five shillings" (P. and E. York Wills, Vol. 42, fol. 281).
Widow Constance Crosby was buried in Rowley, Mass., 25 Jan., 1683-4. See will of Richard Longhorne (120).

She was sister of Ezekiel Northend (132), and married (2) Sergt. John Palmer (135).
The Mary Cross, "servant to Mrs. Shove," who was before the Essex Co. Ct., 8 mo. 1650 and 1 mo. 1651, for lying and stealing, is not found to be akin to Margaret Crosse (501). See Widow Margery Shove (177).

51. MARY DANIEL, "mayd," was baptized 6 Dec., 1691. She next appears in the case of Margaret Scott, widow, charged with "certain detestable Arts called Witchcraft and Sorceries." "The Deposition of Mary Daniel aged nineteen years or thereabout," dated 4 Aug., 1692, was sworn to before "ye Jury of Inquest" 15 Sept., 1692 (Gage). She married Robert Greenough (72).
DAVIS
52. CORNELIUS2 DAVIS was the son of John1 of Newbury, where he was born 15 Apr., 1653. He had five children born in Newbury. His wife, Sarah, died 6 Mar., 1695-6. He married (2) in Rowley, 24 Aug., 1696, Elizabeth, widow of John Hidden (87-2). She died in Rowley, 4 Oct., 1728.
He was a soldier "in ye Narragansett War against ye Indians" (Essex Deeds, 65: 228). Soon after his second marriage he removedER. to Rowley, and died there 16 Mar., 1730-1 (Ch. R.).
