H., and joined the "Shaking Quakers." Mark Jewett and Mary, his wife, having removed from town without any dismission from the church, a letter was sent them, Aug., 1783, to learn about it. 26 July, 1784, the Pastor received a letter, in answer, from Mark Jewett and Mary, his wife, dated "Enfield June 9 1784," as to their conduct in "turning Shaking Quakers." 16 Aug., 1786, another letter was sent to Mark Jewett and wife, about their errors (Ch. R.). At a meeting of the Rowley Church, 11 Mar., 1787, the written confession of Mary Jewett, widow of Mark Jewett, was read. She confessed her sin of joining the "Shaking Quakers." The church voted themselves satisfied with her confession and she was restored (Ch. R.).

The division of his real estate mentions wife, Sarah; sons Timothy, Jere- miah, and Isaiah; daughters Mary Dole, Sarah Jewett, and Philomela Jewett (Essex Probate, 378: 18). His widow, Sarah, died in George- town, 6 Apr., 1839 (G. S. Byfield).

belonging to the estate of Widow Elizabeth Jewett late of said Row- ley, deceased" (Essex Deeds, 239: 82).


This house and barn were on the farm which Maximilian Jewett (100) gave to his eldest son, Ezekiel. This farm was on the south- easterly side of Prospect Hill. At a town meeting, held 16 Feb., 1661, "it was granted and voted that Deacon Jewett should haue a way layed out to him from Bradford street to his land laying one the fore side of prospect hill" (Rowley R. 1: 128).
