203. JOHN1 TODD was in Rowley, probably in 1648. He brought with him his wife, Susannah. She is mentioned as "sister" in the will of Mary, wife of John Grant (71-1). Ann, wife of Thomas Wood (220), is also mentioned as "sister." They are both mentioned as be- ing about 60 years old in. 1697; they were probably much older. See affidavit on file with will of Mary Grant in Essex Probate.


John Todd kept the "Ordinary" (Rowley R.). He died 14 Feb., 1689-90. His will, dated 13 Feb., 1689-90, mentions wife (unnamed) ; sons John, Timothy, Samuel and James; daughters Mehitable, Ruth, and Mary who is to have "so much as will make up what I engaged brother Hunt he performeing what he promist to her husband" (Essex Probate). His widow, Susannah, died 18 Nov., 1710. See Thomas Wood (220).

His will, dated 10 Oct., 1804, mentions wife, Ednah; son Daniel Todd; daughter Elizabeth Shatswell; children (unnamed) of daughter Mary Gage, deceased; children of son George, deceased, Nathaniel, Moses, William and George (Essex Probate, 388: 459).

* She died of small pox, and there is a tradition that her husband watched from the roof of his house as the wagon bore her body to its last resting place, not far from the pest house, in Metcalf Rock Pasture. In this almost forgotten burial place, now overgrown with birches, briars and savins, there are the graves of thirteen persons who died with small pox. See Essex Antiquarian, Vol. 9, p. 108, for an interesting account of Elizabeth Bisco, who died 21 May, 1775, in the pest house, and is buried here.

203-67. ASA4 TODD (Jonathan 203-29; James 203-10; John 203), born 10 Mar., 1737-8; married 30 May, 1765, Elizabeth, daughter of Col. Thomas Gage (69-21). She died 23 July, 1776 (G. S.). He married (2) in Gloucester, 3 Sept., 1792, Mrs. Sarah Lane of Glouces- ter. He died 14 Nov., 1795, in Gloucester, where he then resided. Rev. soldier. Administration granted, 1 Feb., 1796, to his son, Dudley Todd (Essex Probate, 364: 283). His real estate in Rowley and Gloucester was divided, 31 May, 1797, and confirmed, 6 June, 1797, to sons Dud- ley, Asa and Nathan; daughters Hannah Todd and Elizabeth Todd (Essex Probate, 365: 249). His widow, Sarah, died 27 Jan., 1834, aged 73 years (G. S. Rockport).
