SMITH
183. HENRY SMITH had an estate valued for taxation, £15-8s .- 4d. in 1649. No mention of his wife or of his death is found. The inven- tory of his estate was taken 16: 1 mo. 1655, showing personal property £14-3s; no real estate (Essex Probate).
The Ipswich Court record and files, 27 Mar., 1655, show that Maxi- milian Jewett and Francis Parrat, "ye deacons of Rowley," were appointed administrators of the estate of Henry Smith, "and are to dispose of the children for the present." The inventory was presented 25 Mar., 1656, of £8. It was apportioned to the "two children" who are to be disposed of and cared for by the administrators. No further mention of these children is found.
SPOFFORD SPAFFORD
184. JOHN1 SPOFFORD had an acre and half house lot on Bradford Street, 1643. His wife was Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Scott, Sr., of Ipswich (Essex Ct. Files). He appears to have been the first to settle in that part of Rowley now Georgetown; he leased, 19 Mar., 1668-9, of the town of Rowley, a farm of sixty acres there (Rowley printed records, Vol. 1, p. 202). He was fifty years old, 1662 (Essex Ct. Files). His death is not recorded. His will, dated 7: 8 mo. 1678, proved 6 : 9 mo. 1678, mentions wife (unnamed) ; sons Francis, John, Thomas, and Samuel; daughters Elizabeth, Hannah, Mary, and Sarah; wife, and son Thomas, executors (Essex Deeds, 4 Ips .: 222).
