33. SAMUEL2 BUSWELL, termed on Rowley Church Record "Goodm Buswell" and "Br Buswell," son of Isaac of Salisbury, born probably in England, about 1628; married in Salisbury, 8 June 1656, Sarah, daughter of Robert and Sarah Keyes. See inventory of Sarah, widow of John Gage (68).
Residence, Salisbury, until about 1670. He was in Boxford, 1670. In March, 1671, he, then called Boswell, had laid out to him fifty-three acres of land in Rowley, bounded on the north by the Merrimack River, and at the river it was twenty-four and one half poles wide. He was later of Bradford, where he died 7 July, 1704.

35. MR. EDWARD1 CARLETON came to Rowley with his wife, Ellen, 1639 ; freeman, 18: 3 mo. 1642; had a three-acre house lot, 1643. In 1636, he was of Barmston, Yorkshire, England, as shown by Paver's list of marriage licenses : 3 Nov., 1636, Edward Carleton, of Barmston and Ellen Newton, St. Martin, Micklegate. She was daughter of John and Mary Newton of St. Martin, Micklegate, Yorkshire (Yorkshire Antiquarian). He returned to England with his family, probably be- fore 1652.
The following is a copy of petition on file in Essex Co. Clerk's Office :---
"To the Honoured Court now sitting at Salem this 27 of November, Anno Dom. 1678, The humble request of Christopher Babbage & Han- nah his wife that whereas Mr. Edward Carleton sometimes of Rowley left an estate in New England when he went out of the country, part of which (he sending his son John Carleton by virtue of a letter of Attorney did receive in his behalf), wee conceiving that there being some of his estate unreceived by his son, desire this Honoured Court would appoynt some of our relations, Jeremiah Jewett or Nehemiah Jewett or both to be administrators to the estate of the sayd Mr. Ed- ward Carlton that if anything may be preserved, it may be forth-com- ming to the children of the said Hannah relict of the said John Carlton deceased the only heirs to any such estate (as we can conceive), or as authority shall dispose of it & in your soe doing your servants shall pray. He brought with him his wife, Elizabeth. He was buried 22: 1 mo. 1653.

He died 21 Jan., 1774. His will, dated 4 Jan., 1774, mentions wife, Sarah; five sons-Joseph, David, John, Daniel and Caleb; three daugh- ters-Lydia, Lois, and Eunice, who is youngest child; son Joseph, executor (Essex Probate, 350: 116). His widow, Sarah, died 7 Feb., 1798.
