His widow, Priscilla, married (2) 3 Sept., 1735, Edward Putnam of Middleton. She died in Row- ley, 6 Sept., 1736.

The old house, probably built by Francis Parrat, was taken down in 1877. He died 31 Oct., 1760. His will, dated 25 Oct., 1760, gives all his estate to wife, Mary, except a young horse and two cows to son Paul (Essex Probate, 337: 434). His widow, Mary, died 1 Sept., 1775.

His will, dated 10 June, 1732, mentions him- self as of "Scarboro" in the County of York, "but now of Ipswich"; wife (unnamed) to be executrix ; eldest son, James, to have all his lands in York County; son Moses; daughter Abigail (Essex Probate, 319 : 269). His widow, Abigail, married (2) John Todd (203-12).

Pepperell-dated Royal Battery, 4 o'clock, May 13, 1745-"in the action one of our gunners was mortally wounded by a langrage, a piece of which, taken out of his back, I send by bearer; another larger piece remains in. His name is James Jewett & is an Ipswich man. The man is now expiring" (Mass. Hist. Coll., 10, 6th Series, Pepperell Papers, 167). "1745 James Jewett, killed with a cannon ball at Capebreton before the place was taken" (Rowley Ch. R.). James6 Jewett, b. in Rowley, 1 June, 1739, was the son of James (101-93) and Mary Pearson (140-111). Her father, Stephen Pearson (140-55) was appointed his guardian. Daniel Dow, of Ipswich, was appointed his guardian, 1 Dec., 1724, he being then about nine years old. He married in Ipswich 22 Jan., 1738- 9, Hannah, daughter of Thomas Butler, then, or formerly, of Ipswich. He moved to Manchester about 1741, and thence, about 1750, to Wind- ham County, Conn. He lived for a time in Pomfret, Conn., and died in Canterbury, Conn., 29 Sept., 1801, aged 85 years, 7 months, and 28 days (85 years lacking 2 days, Hampton, Conn. Ch. R.).

MOSES5 JEWETT (Aaron 101-44; Jeremiah 101-10; Jeremiah 101-1; Joseph 101), baptized in Ipswich, 7 Apr., 1722 ; mar- ried in Ipswich, 13 May, 1741, Abigail, daughter of Moses Bradstreet (25-26). She died 8 Nov., 1794, aged 72 years (G. S.). He was a soldier in the Revolution; captain of the "Troop of Horse," which marched from Ipswich, on the Lexington alarm, 19 Apr., 1775. He died at his home in Ipswich Village, 31 July, 1796, in his 75th year (G. S.). His will, dated 11 July, 1796, mentions: "my first born son Aaron to have the homestead and be executor; sons Moses, Nathaniel and James ; daughters Jane Todd, Hannah Plummer and Sarah Jewett; my two daughters that are single, Abigail and Betty" (Essex Probate, 364: 428). The house he built in 1759 is now (1932) owned and occupied by Edgar Eilenberger.
