Nathan Bradstreet, Elizabeth Jewett, wife of Aaron Jewett, and Phebe Cressey, wife of John Cressey (Essex Probate, 374: 72).


His homestead was in Ipswich, "joining the bounds of Rowley," now (1932) the residence of his descendant, John E. Bradstreet; it was formerly owned by Thomas Hammond (75) and occupied by him in the later years of his life. Widow Phebe died 18 Dec., 1814 (1815, G. S.).

25-57. JOHN5 BRADSTREET (Lieut. Nathaniel 25-29; Moses 25-9; Capt. Moses 25-7; Humphrey 25), born in Ipswich; baptized in Row- ley, 26 June, 1748; married in Newbury, 14 Feb., 1771, Judith, daugh- ter of Benjamin Hale, of Newbury. His home was the farm now (1932) owned and occupied by heirs of Frank P. Todd. It was in Ipswich, annexed to Rowley 29 Nov., 1785. By deed, dated 8 Apr., 1782, he sold this farm to John Nelson of Pownalborough, Maine (Essex Deeds, 141: 91). This John Nelson (having wife Abigail) sold the farm, 29 Sept., 1783, to Thomas Gage (69-35).


John Bradstreet, with his family, moved, about 1782, to Maine and was later residing in Palermo, Maine. Rev. Paul Coffin travelled through Maine as a missionary in 1796-7-8. From a Journal kept by him we take the following :- "Aug. 7, Sheepscot Ponds, Palermo. The largest pond is Sheepscot Great Pond. At the head of this a Mr. John Bradstreet, originally from Rowley, lives. He owned two peninsulas of 70 acres each in rich interval land, before his door, which faced south." Rev. soldier.

BRIDGES


26. EDMUND1 BRIDGES was undoubtedly the Edmund Bridges, aged 23, who came in the ship "James," John May, master, from London, 13 July, 1635. Where he resided before 1639, when he joined Roger's company in Rowley, is uncertain, probably in Lynn. In Rowley he was a blacksmith and had an acre and half house lot, 1643, bounded on the north side by the cross street, the east end by the high street. His wife was Alice - -.


His second wife was Elizabeth who died in Ipswich, 31 Dec., 1664. He married in Ipswich, as his third wife, 6 Apr., 1665, Mary, widow of Richard Littlehale of Haverhill.


He sold his dwelling house, blacksmith's shop, and rights to Isaac Cousins (46), and moved to Ipswich, where he was in 1644. He was about 46 years old, 1658 (Ct. R.). He died in Ipswich, 13 Jan., 1684. His will, dated 6 Jan., 1684, mentions wife, Mary; son John Bridges; son Josiah Bridges; daughter Faith Bridges, alias Black; daughter Bethiah Bridges, alias Peabody; daughter Mary Bridges (Essex Pro- bate, 304: 123). In Rowley his name appears of record as Edward Bridges. His widow, Mary, died in Ipswich, 24 Oct., 1691.

He entred upon the work of the evangelical ministry; first at Rowley, and then at the Isle of Sholes. In the year 1662, he became a pastor to the church at Reading where he died June 18, 1688" (Mather's Magnalia).

Rowley R.). He was a selectman soon after becoming of age; ordained Deacon of Rowley Church, 18 Feb., 1665, and continued to fill important offices in town until his death.

Value by inventory £ 442-11s. Widow Hannah married (2) in Newbury, 4 Mar., 1678-9, Richard Dole, Sr., of Newbury, where she died 6 Sept., 1690. The names of the sons-in-law are seen in an agreement dated 9 Oct., 1701 (Essex Probate, 307: 401).

He was deacon of the church in Byfield Parish, 1714 (Essex Deeds, 37: 177).


In a deed, dated 7 Apr., 1714, he conveys land to his son John, who must pay £60 "to my three grandchildren when yy come to age or mar- riage"; viz., Sarah Brocklebank, Mary Brocklebank and Martha Brockle- bank, each £20 (Essex Deeds, 37: 177).


In a deed, dated 18 Feb., 1719-20, he conveys land to his son Francis, who must pay a stated sum to daughters Elizabeth Pingry and Hannah Nelson, also to his son Samuel Brocklebank's three daughters, Sarah, Mary and Martha Brocklebank. Son Francis is to live with his parents and care for them. Son John Brocklebank is mentioned. His wife, Elizabeth, signs the deed (Essex Deeds, 44: 73).


His home was in Rowley, Second Parish, now Georgetown, and his descendants now (1932) reside there.

By deed, dated 3 June, 1747, for love and affection, he conveys to his son, David Brocklebank, a farm of sixty acres in Second Parish, Rowley (Essex Deeds, 110: 214).

It is probable that Molly Brocklebank who m. 4 Mar., 1776, Corp. John Adams, and resided in New London, N. H., was dau. of John Brocklebank (29-31). She d. in New London, 27 July, 1840, aged 82 years.


29-34. DAVID5 BROCKLEBANK (John 29-18; Dea. Samuel 29-3; Capt. Samuel 29-1; Widow Jane 29), born 4 Mar., 1723-4; married 17 May, 1749, Sarah Adams. He had a second wife named Hannah, unless the name Sarah is a mistake. He died 31 May, 1756. Adminis- tration granted 5 July, 1756, to his widow, Hannah. Her account was filed 27 Apr., 1767, and the estate was then distributed; to widow Hannah £14-18s-3d-3f, being one third; to eldest son, Job Brocklebank, one third; to Mehitabel and Ruth, daughters, one third (Essex Pro- bate, 343 : 480).


By deed, dated 14 Nov., 1788, Daniel Perkins of Rowley, and Mehi- table, his wife, convey to Job Brocklebank of Rowley, all their interest in the estate of "our honoured Father David Brocklebank including the dower of the widow Hannah of the said David Brocklebank, lately deceased" (Essex Deeds, 162 : 145).

H., in 1773, and had children born there. By deed, dated 21 Apr., 1773, he sold his homestead on Wethersfield Street in Rowley to Jere- miah Mighill (127-33) (Essex Deeds, 131: 244). His widow, Mary, probably died in Lancaster, 30 July, 1838, aged 85 years.
