89-22. WILLIAM4 HOBSON (Jeremiah 89-9; William 89-3; William 89), born 25 Mar., 1730; married 9 Nov., 1753, Hannah, daughter of John Johnson (105-6). She died 22 Sept., 1757. He married (2) in Gloucester, 9 Mar., 1758, Lydia Parsons of Gloucester. She died in Rowley, 13 Nov., 1783.


He was administrator of the estate of his brother, Joseph Hobson, from 29 Nov., 1762 to 30 Oct., 1765, when the appointment was re- voked, "as by information he has absconded and left the Province" (Essex Probate, 342 : 473). He may have returned, but was soon of Buxton, Me., where he died, 1827. He may have had a third wife in Buxton.

This Deponant Testifieth & Saith, that about 50 years ago Mr Thomas Nellson Father to Capt Phillip Nellson of Rowley Deceased Built ye Grist Mill in Rowley. that now John Pearson Improveth & had a Saw Mill, neer ye South End of ye abovesaid Grist Mill which Stood upon ye Same Spott of Land yt ye ffulling mill Stands on (at ye Southerly End of said Grist Mill) which is now in ye hands of John Pearson senr, & that ye above said Mr Thomas Nellson did Improve ye said Saw mill & ye Land Adjoyneing to it on ye South side of said Saw Mill, & I never knew, that said Nellson, nor his heires had any Molestatio about said place to this Day. & further said Richard Testifieth that I wrought at above said Mills, at Mr Nellsons Charge, to build said Mills & Dams & make ye stones for said Grist Mill & yt ye above said Saw mill was driven with ye head of water that drove ye Grist mill: Sworne by Richard Holmes to ye Truth of ye above written-In Court at Ipswich March 29: 1692" (Essex Deeds, 5 Ips .: 502).


"Ezekiel Northend, aged 64 years, Testifieth that ye affirmation given above by Richard Holmes as written, is Truth to his knowledge, & that of late years said John Pearson, hath had Two ffulling Stocks. Sworne by Ezekiel Northend to ye abovesaid Evidence in Court at Ipswich Mar. 29th 1692" (Essex Deeds, 5 Ips .: 502).

of Thomas Harris (80), 1644. He married 23 : 6 mo. 1647, Alice North- end, sister of Ezekiel Northend (132). She was buried 14 Feb., 1686-7. He died in Bradford, probably at the house of his daughter, Elizabeth Pearl.


His will, dated 15 July, 1695, proved 13 Jan., 1696, mentions him- self as of Rowley; daughter Elizabeth Pearl; "haveing payd for my son John Pearl, by his order & desire ye sum of Fifty pounds in Mony vnto Mr Jnº Knight of Ketle Cove (deceased) wch he owed before he married to my daughter Elizabeth; & Eighte one pounds & ten shill- ings mony to Mr Francis Wainwright deceased yt he owed him for Corne &c. where I delivered my said son out of prison : & also .... "; grandchildren Alice, Ellen, Timothy, Mary and John Pearl; "My Lands houseing & Mill at Bradford" (Essex Probate). In the division of his real estate in Rowley, 27 July, 1710, mention is made of Ellen, Alice and Timothy Pearl, also "their mother Elizabeth Pearl, widow" (Essex Probate).

Timothy probably died in said service, as he is not mentioned in his father's will, 1695.

91. MICHAEL1 (MIGHILL) HOPKINSON, "servant to our brother Jacob Elyott," was admitted to the First Church in Boston 6: 11 mo. 1638; dismissed to "ye gathering of a church at Rowley," 24: 9 mo. 1639 ; freeman, 13 May, 1640; had an acre and half house lot on Brad- ford Street, 1643. He brought with him his wife, Ann. He was buried 28 Feb., 1648-9. The will of Mighill Hopkinson is mentioned in the Ipswich Ct. R., 29: 7 mo. 1657. His widow, Ann, married (2) John Trumble 204). 1741, Widow Elizabeth Clark of Ipswich, and died 26 Feb., 1750-1. She died 27 June, 1757. Her personal estate was divided, 4 June, 1759; her son Daniel Clark had two shares; her daughter Elizabeth, widow of Ephraim Dow, had one share; the legal representative of daughter Mary Dorman, deceased, had one share (Essex Probate, 336 : 257).

He married (2) 20 May, 1728, Margaret, widow of Jacob Barker (13-24). She died 26 Apr., 1742. He married (3) 11 Jan., 1742-3, Martha (Smith) Woodberry, widow of Samuel Woodberry.


He died 12 Sept., 1768 (Ch. R.). His will, dated 8 May, 1761, mentions wife, Martha; daughters Hannah Whitaker, Elizabeth Main, Mary Lamson who is to have more than her sister for not calling for her share of the estate that came from her grandmother Hunt, Rebecca Davis, and Mercy Hopkinson, "who in wise providence is not capable of governing herself." Jacob Barker named executor. 24 Oct., 1768, David Whitaker was appointed administrator cum testamento annexo as Jacob Barker had removed to "Nova Scotia and not like to return here again" (Essex Probate, 345 : 111). His widow, Martha, died 24 Jan., 1783. aged 98 years.
