By deed, dated 13 May, 1671, Thomas Mighill and wife, Bethula, "sometimes of Oister River in Dover," sold to John Webster of New- bury, house and land in Dover, purchased of Patrick Jerningson in 1669, which said Patrick bought of Valentine Hill in 1659, it being a town grant (Rockingham Deeds, 3: 153).
By deed, dated 16 Oct., 1699, John Webster, Sr., with wife, Ann, sold to George Chisley of Oyster River, Dover, 40 acres of land in Dover, purchased of Thomas Mighill in 1670, that said Thomas bought of Patrick Jerningson, that said Patrick bought of V. Hill (Rocking- ham Deeds, 5: 152).

MIGHILL-PERLEY HOUSE, BAY ROAD
Built in 1737 by Nathaniel Mighill (127-29). The rafters were hewn from logs having a natural crook and reach from the eaves to the ridgepole. The "Country's Wonder," a vessel of upwards of 100 tons, was built in front of this house by Capt. Nathaniel Mighill Perley, a grandson of Nathaniel Mighill. It was hauled to the Warehouse Landing, 2 May, 1814, by more than one hundred yoke of oxen.
NELSON-PAYSON HOUSE, MAIN AND CHURCH STREETS
It stood on the lot registered in 1643 to Mr. Thomas Nelson (130) and was probably built by a Nelson or a Pay- son. The land was sold to Rev. Edward Payson (138) and later owned successively by Dea. Edward Payson (138-7), Col. Thomas Gage (69-21), Nathan Lambert (112-22), and Joshua Pickard (145-70). The house was occupied by Joshua Pickard, 1768-1814, and later by his descendants. It was taken down in 1883.

MILLER
128. REV. JOHN1 MILLER was bred at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, England, where he took his A. B., 1627 (Savage) ; free- man, 22 May, 1639, then of Roxbury; moved to Rowley, 1639, as assistant to Rev. Ezekiel Rogers; was the first town clerk of Rowley, where his two-acre house lot was registered, 1643. He brought with him to Rowley, his wife, Lydia, who died in Boston, 7 Aug., 1658. They moved to Yarmouth early in 1641, and later to Roxbury. He died in Groton, 12 June, 1663 (Savage). He left a son, John, and several daughters.

MILLER
129. THOMAS1 MILLER had an acre and half house lot, 1643; was licensed to draw wine, 1647, paying fifteen shillings annually. In Row- ley, he had his wife Isabel. He was a carpenter. They moved to Middle- town, Conn., about 1651, where he died 14 Aug., 1680, and in his will, made three days before, calls himself 70 years old (Savage). His letter of dismission from the church in Rowley to the church in Middle- town was not given until 6 Sept., 1674.
Lechford, in his Note-book, 24 Aug., 1640, mentions Thomas Miller and his wife, Isabel. In 1666, although living in Middletown, he was placed on trial before the church in Rowley, wherein he still retained membership, for an offence committed in Middletown. The church adjudged him guilty and ordered him ex-communicated, which order was publicly read, 6 Oct., 1667. "Afterward prayr was made that God would ratify the sentence & let loose Satan on Him" (Ch. R.).

R. 9 mo. 1656). Soon after the settlement of the town, probably as early as 1642 and per- haps earlier, he built a grist mill,* and a sawmill, on Mill River, the first to be erected in the town. In the first allotment of lands, he was granted "thirty six Acres of vpland in the ffield called the Mill ffield twenty six wherof was laid out to him as part of his diuision of upland the other tenn was giuen him for incouragement towards building the Mill." Grist mills, known in later years as "Glen Mills" were in opera- tion on this spot from that time until destroyed by fire in 1916. See John Pearson (140). Mr. Nelson died in England, 6 Aug., 1648

His will, dated 24 Dec., 1645, "being by providence called now to make a voyage into old England," and a schedule (codicil) made in England, 6 Aug., 1648, proved in Ipswich Court 26 : 1 mo. 1650, mentions "wife Joane my mill; millhouse" etc. in Rowley; also all that ground lately occupied by Joseph Wormehill ; eldest son, Philip; son Thomas; youngest son, Samuel, born since will was made; daughter Mercy and "any other child that my wife may have"; "my Aunt Katherin Withars," Richard Bellingham and uncle Richard Dummer, executors; Mr. Ezekiel Rogers and Mr. John Norton, overseers. "Also I ernestly desire of or reverend Pastor & Elder Mr Rogers & of that whole Church of Rowley, that they may not mistake themselves concerning the eleven pounds & the seventeene pounds which I paid to Goodman Seatchwell, for his farme; & I did not give these in with other monies that I laid out for the Plantation: Least this being a wrong to mee, be to their greefe at the Day of Jesus Christ as also fifteene pound paid to Mr Carletons hundred pound which I ought not to pay. This I entreate them seriously to lay to hart, & righting me in all these pticulars" (Essex Deeds, 1 Ips .: 72) .*
In 1654 Widow Joane Nelson was in England, at Stoneham, County of Southampton, with the younger children. In Rowley "Book of Grants" mention is made of "M" Nelson's Children in England" in 1661-2.

PHILIP2 NELSON (Thomas 130), born in England about 1633; was graduated at Harvard College, 1654, the only graduate that year; married 24 June, 1657, Sarah, daughter of Joseph Jewett (101). She was buried 17: 12 mo. 1665. He married (2) 1: 11 mo. 1666, Elizabeth, daughter of John Lowell of Newbury. She was born in Newbury, 16 Feb., 1646.
1681-"Mr Philip Nelson of Rowley wanders away and is lost from Ap. 5 to Satterday Ap. 9, Rowley and Newbury seeking him; on Satter- day is found, having walked out of his place to take the air; it was between two Rocks on Crane-Neck." (Diary of Samuel Sewall, Vol. 2, p. 17.) He was a justice of the peace and captain of a company "under the command of Sir William Phipps who is goinge against the French at Nova Scotia." He died 19 Aug., 1691. His will, dated 9 Apr., 1690, mentions wife, Elizabeth, to be executrix; eldest son, Philip ; son John; daughter Mary Haseltine; brother Nehemiah Jewett of Ips- wich; children (unnamed) by last wife (Essex Probate, 304: 390).

His will, dated 17 Dec., 1709, mentions eldest son, Thomas; sons Gershom, Francis and Eph- raim; daughters Hannah Gardner and Dorothy "Roofe" (Essex Pro- bate, 310: 422).
