* Ipswich Village is that part of Ipswich next to Rowley, bordering the "Bay Road." It was originally granted, 1634, to Thomas Emerson, Robert Muzzy, John Gage, and Thomas Scott. Joseph Jewett (101), in 1654, purchased the Muzzy farm and at the time of his death, 1660-61, owned nearly the whole of the Village. Four of his children, Jeremiah, Nehemiah, Joseph, and Faith (Jewett) Pingry, settled there or nearby. It has been the home of the Jewett ancestors of Amos E. Jewett (101-213) since 1662, when Jeremiah (101-1) came to live on "the farme I bought of Joseph Muzzy" and in the "Mansion-house by the Great Spring." See will of Joseph Jewett (101).
