LEAVER
115. THOMAS1 LEAVER, "linen-weaver," had an acre and half house lot, 1643; married 1 Sept., 1643, Mary Bradley. He was town clerk from 1657 to 1683, with a few years' intermission, and often one of the selectmen. He died 26 Dec., 1683. His estate was settled by agree- ment between his widow and son (Essex Probate, 304: 82). His widow, Mary, died 4 Oct., 1684.

JONATHAN4 LEIGHTON (Richard 116-8; Ezekiel 116-3; Richard 116), born 9 or 19 Oct., 1715; married in Newbury, 25 Apr., 1739, Mary, daughter of Joshua Boynton (21-8) of Newbury, where she was born 25 Apr., 1719. They moved to New Castle, Lincoln Co., Me., and were there, 3 Dec., 1771, when they sold to Enoch Boynton of Gloucester, all their right in the estate of Joshua Boynton, late of Newbury, deceased (Essex Deeds, 131: 118).
By deed, dated 1 June, 1761, he (his mother Abigail, widow, join- ing) sold his part of the homestead that was his father's to Stephen Dole (Essex Deeds, 110: 37). This land is on the west side of the road and about midway from the house formerly owned by the late Charles R. Edgerly, to Mill Brook. Jonathan Leighton died in New- castle (Sheepscott), Me., 15 Aug., 1772, and his widow, Mary, died there 4 June, 1798.

He was of Haverhill, 1648, and there sometimes styled "Linford," "Lilford," "Linforth" and "Linfurth." He had, in Haverhill, wife Elizabeth (Emerson). He died there 15 Nov., 1672. His widow, Elizabeth, lived with her daughter Elizabeth Brewer in Haverhill, and died there 20 Feb., 1692-3. The estate was divided 4 May, 1696, and paid to Elizabeth Brewer, eldest daughter, and Mary Browne "ye other daughter" (Essex Pro- bate, 16800).

119. FRANCIS LILFORTH. Savage says he was of Rowley, 1643, and was drowned 15 Nov., 1672. We know nothing of him.
LONGHORNE
120. RICHARD1 LONGHORNE married 16: 11 mo. (Jan.), 1647, Mary, daughter of Widow Constance Crosby (50). She was buried 29 Nov., 1667. He was about forty-five years old, 25 Mar., 1662 (Ct. Files, 7: 82). He died in Haverhill while there on business, 12: 12 mo. (Feb.) 1668. His will, dated 10 Feb., 1668, mentions brother, Thomas Longhorne of Cambridge, and daughter Elizabeth to be execu- tors; three other daughters (unnamed) ; Samuel Wood, "my servant," son of Obadiah Wood; brother John Johnson; John Pickard and James Bailey to be overseers. In an affidavit on file with the will, mention is made of the children being with their grandmother and two aunts. See Constance Crosby (50).

He, then of Topsfield, by deed, dated 11 May, 1692, bought of Jonathan Wheeler part of a farm in Rowley, that David Wheeler for- merly bought of Ezekiel Northend. Then the worshipful, when administra- tion was granted the two sisters, equal, desired him to be helpful to them in the division." She died 29 Nov., 1734, "an Israelite indeed" (Ch. R.). He mar- ried (2) in Newbury, 18 Mar., 1734-5, Ann, widow of Joseph Richard- son of Newbury. By deed, dated 10 July, 1735, John Lunt of Rowley, Innholder, and "Ann Richardson alias Ann Lunt ye now wife of ye sd John Lunt" sell to Joseph Titcomb of Newbury land in Newbury (Essex Deeds, 70: 45). 126. WILLIAM LYON of Rowley and his wife, Martha, by deed, dated 24 Apr., 1677, sell land in Rowley to John Pearson (Essex Deeds, 4 Ips. : 156).
"At the same towne meeting (22 Jan., 1677) it was agreed and voated that the money due frº Willia Lion which he promised to pay the towne in silver and other pay upon condition they confirm a farme to yong Samuell Shiperd which was doubtful before that act the said silver should be demanded received or otherwise prosecuted in a legall way John Pickard and Daniell Wickam are chosen to prosecute this business or to agree with him at their discretio."

1262. SAMUEL2 MATHER, son of the Rev. Richard1 of Dorchester, was born in Lancashire, England, 13 May, 1626 (Savage) ; Harvard College, 1643. "He spent some time with the church of Rowley, as an assistant unto old Mr Ezekiel Rogers" (Mather's Magnalia).

127. DEA. THOMAS1 MIGHILL was first of Roxbury, where he and his wife Ellen were admitted to the church, perhaps as early as 1637 (Savage), then of Rowley, 1639, where he was ordained deacon, 3 Dec., 1639, of the church then gathered in Rowley; freeman, 13 May, 1640.

He brought with him his wife, Ellen, who was buried 12: 5 mo. 1640, the first person buried in Rowley. He married (2) Ann Parrat, sister of Dea. Francis Parrat (136). He had a three-acre house lot on Weth- ersfield Street, 1643. "february 7th-49, It is granted Tho. Mighill that, that Streete which is betweene his house and his mault Kilne shall Remayne as it is now provyded that when the fence is Repayerd againe it shall be mayde thre Rod wide notwithstanding the order to the Contrary" (Rowley R.). He was buried 14: 5 mo. (?) (4 mo.), 1654. His will, dated 11 June, 1654, approved 27: 1 mo. 1655, men- tions, beside wife and children, "sister Ann Tenney and Faith Parrat Sen." (Essex Probate). The inventory of his estate, amounting to £571 14s. 11d., was taken 24 June, 1654, and filed in court 27 Mar., 1655. Widow Ann Mighill died 17 Nov., 1694; her sister Faith, widow of William Law (114), was the administratrix of her estate. A tradi- tion in the family gives the birth of Dea. Thomas as 1606 and of Ellen, his wife, 1610.
The house lot laid out to him and registered, 1643, remained in the family name until 1928 and was the last one of the original lots to pass into another name.

127-1. SAMUEL,2 in a petition to the Probate court, 4 Mar., 1694-5, states he was his father's eldest child by first wife and that Ezekiel was eldest child of second wife. He m. 26 Mar., 1657, Elizabeth, dau. of Abraham Toppan of Newbury. They were mentioned in the will of Abraham Toppan, 20 June, 1670. He d. without issue, 31 Jan., 1698-9. His will, dated 10 June, 1697, mentions himself as "not likely to continue long in this world by reason of a cancer in my face"; John, as only surviving brother; Samuel, son of brother John Mighill; Samuel and Elizabeth, children of brother Thomas Mighill; brother Peter Toppan's children (un- named) ; wife Elizabeth who is to be executrix. Widow Eliza- beth accepts, 28 Mar., 1699 (Essex Probate, 306: 199). His widow, Elizabeth, d. in Newbury before 1704.

127-6. NATHANIEL, b. 1646; bur. 14 Oct., 1677 (Rowley R.). The inventory of his estate, taken 27: 9 mo. 1677, mentions his death as of 13: 8 mo. 1677, also "goods at Barbadoes." It may have been his widow, Mary, who m. in Newbury, 13 Oct., 1681, Thomas Ste- vens of Newbury.

127-2. JOHN2 MIGHILL (Dea. Thomas 127) was born in England. He was fined, 1658, for "taking tobacco." Thomas Leaver deposed that "on a dry windy day before the snow fell in the beginning of last win-

ter I came into the yard of Widow Mighell and found John Mighell between her house and barn smoking tobacco near a dung hill full of hay or straw. I blamed him for smoking contrary to law and showed the danger. I went away. He said nothing, and when I returned he was still smoking." John Pearson testified that he saw the pipe in Mighill's mouth (Essex Ct. R. and Files, 6 May, 1658, Salem). He married 6 July, 1659, Sarah, daughter of Nicholas Batt of Newbury. By deed, dated 26 Dec., 1662, he sold to John Dresser, Jr., his dwelling- house and three and three-quarters acres of land in Rowley, bounded east by Abraham Jewett, south by John Dresser, west by Jonathan Platts, north by the town street (Essex Deeds, 2 Ips. : 433).
He lived sometime at "Oyster River in Dover," N. H., and was con- stable there in 1674. On 13 Aug., 1676, he had three children bap- tized in Newbury. He and his sons John and Thomas were in Suffield, Conn., 1681, and had grants of land there. He died in Suffield, 1702 (Savage).

Laws, 8: 669). His will, dated 20 July, 1736, proved 25 Aug., 1736, mentions himself as "of Newmarket in the township of Exeter," N. H .; his wife. Sarah, to have house, land and personal estate during widowhood ; eldest son, Samuel; youngest son, John; daughters Elizabeth, Abigail and Mary; wife, Sarah, to be executrix (Probate R. 14 : 164, State House, Concord, N. H.).
