I. ROBERT DRAKE, born in the county of Devon, England, 1580, came to New England with a family before 1643, and lived a few years

in Exeter, but removed to Hampton early in 1651, having bought of Francis Peabody land and a dwelling-house, which stood near the present site of the Baptist meeting-house. This was his home for the rest of his life. He died Jan. 14, 1668. The name of his wife is not known, nor the time of her death. The children named in his will are :

The names of both these sons occur in the early records of Exeter. They probably removed to Hampton with their father.
II. NATHANIEL DRAKE, son of Robert (1), married Jane, widow of William Berry, of Little Harbor ; date of marriage is not known, but was before Dec. 9, 1669, when she was fifty years old. Mr. Drake removed to Portsmouth as early as 1656, and lived there till 1690, after which time we have no account of him. Children as far as known, were :

IX. ABRAHAM DRAKE, Colonel, son of Abraham (6), settled in North Hampton, on " Drake's hill," where Joshua P. Drake now lives. In the French war he served as a captain of horse, and in the war of the Revolution, as lieutenant-colonel of the Third N. H. Regt. He was also a member of the Provincial Congress held at Exeter in 1775. He died of apoplexy, suddenly, in his field. Colonel Drake married, first, Abigail, daughter of Nathaniel Weare (3); second, Abigail, daughter of Samuel Dearborn (16). Children :
