COLE.
I. WILLIAM COLE's house-lot, of five acres, was a few rods east- ward of the Baptist church, on the same side of the road, "lying be- tween Philemon Dalton's on the east and Francis Peabody's on the west and the meeting-house green on the south." He had forty acres of land granted to him in June, 1640, and had one share in the com- mons in 1646. In the latter part of his life he was poor and re- ceived help from the town. He died May 26, 1662, aged eighty-eight years, according to the statement of his wife, Eunice Cole, the re- puted witch. She died Oct., 1680. (See pp. 53, 67, 79.)
II. ABRAHAM COLE may have been the Abraham, son of Isaac and Joanna Cole, born in Charlestown, Oct. 3, 1636. They had also Jacob, born 1641, and probably Isaac (3). Abraham Cole married Mar. 15, 1666 or '67, Mary Wedgwood, probably daughter of John (1). Children :

GENEALOGICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL.
I. REV. SEABORN COTTON, fourth minister of Hampton, eldest son of Rev. Jolin Cotton, of Boston, England, and afterward of Boston, Mass., was born at sea during the passage of his parents across the At- lantic, Aug. 12, 1633 ; graduated at Harvard College, 1651 ; ordained at Hampton, 1658 ; died in office; Apr. 20, 1686. He married, first, June, 1654, Dorothy, daughter of Simon Bradstreet, afterward gov- ernor of Massachusetts. She died Feb. 26, 1672. He married, sec- ond, July 9, 1673, Prudence, widow of Dr. Anthony Crosby, of Rowley, Mass., and daughter of Jonathan Wade, of Ipswich.1 Children :
Dorothy, b. Nov. 11, 1656; m. Col. Joseph Smith (4) ; d. Dec. 20, 1706. John (2), b. May 8, 1658 ; m. Anne Lake; d. Mar. 27, 1710.

A record of Mr. Cotton's family is found in the quaint language of his diary,2 a specimen of which is given, as follows :
"I was Marryed by My Father Mr Simon Bradstreet to His Eldest Daughter Dorothy, June 14, 1654."
"The fifth [child] was borne on Thursday, August 22, 1661, at halfe an houre past 12 at noone, her name is Anne."
"My Deare wife dyed & went to heaven Feb. 26, 1671,3 & was bur- ried Feb. 28, 1671."
"I was marryed to my Second wife, Mrs Prudence Crosbey The Daughter of Mr Jonathan Wade of Ipswich, the 9th of July, 1673, by Maior Denison."
"My 2nd childe by her & 14th in all [reckoning three, still-born], was borne october 6 about 5 of ye clocke in ye morning 1676, & bap- tized Oct. 8, 1676, and was named Wade in honour of his Grandfather Wade, & to put him in mind of wading through all trialls to heaven. he dyed & was buried october 11. 76."
II. REV. JOHN COTTON, son of Seaborn (1), married Ang. 17, 1686, Anne, daughter of Capt. Thomas Lake, of Boston. She was

born Oct. 12, 1663, and married, second, Rev. Increase Mather, D.D., and died Mar. 29, 1737. Children :

III. REV. THEOPHILUS COTTON, first pastor of the church in Hamp- ton Falls, was the youngest son of Rev. John Cotton, of Plymouth, Mass., born May 5, 1682 ; graduated at Harvard College, 1701 ; mar- ried Mary, widow of Dr. Gedney, of Salem, and daughter of Gookin, of Cambridge ; died without children Ang. 16, 1726.
IV. REV. WARD COTTON, sixth minister of the old church in Hamp- ton, was a son of Rev. Rowland Cotton, of Sandwich, Mass., born in Sandwich, Sept. 19, 1711; graduated at Harvard College, 1729 ; or- dained at Hampton, 1734 ; dismissed 1765 ; died at Plymouth, Mass., Nov. 27, 1768. He married Joanna Rand, of Boston. Children :
Isabella, b. June or July, 1735; d. July 31, 1752.
Elizabeth, b. Aug. 24, 1737 ; m. June 21, 1756, Dr. Ebenezer Fisk, of Epping. Sarah Cotta, b. Oct. 19, 1739; m. Oct. 30, 1760, Dr. Ichabod Weeks, of Greenland.
With the exception of Rev. John Cotton, ni son of either of the above ministers settled in Hampton and the name disappeared from the town. It reappeared, probably from Portsmouth, in North Hamp- ton, in the persons of John and Thomas Cotton, the latter of whom was the father of Morris and grandfather of Jonathan, whose descend- ants still live at Little River.
Jolin and Nathaniel Cotton, sons of Nathaniel, of Stratham, were brought up, the former, in the family of Ephraim Marston (33), the latter, in that of Thomas Ward (6). After they were married, they lived in the houses now owned by John F. and Jeremiah G. Mace.
V. JOHN COTTON (ahove), born 1790 ; married 1818, Mrs. Polly Marston, daughter of Willard Emery (2) ; died Dec. 4, 1835. Chil- dren :
Sarah, b. 1818 ; m. John Dearborn, of No. II. Ch. : Emery. Angeline, Polly Frances, Adelaide and an unnamed son, all of whom d. young. John Allen. Elsie E. Marcia P.

Ann Cotton, an orphan, died at Ephraim Marston's, Mar. 20, 1818, aged fourteen years.
COXE.
I. MOSES COXE was at Hampton as early as the spring of 1640, when he was appointed the first herdsman for the town. In 1662 he was a selectman. His house stood a few rods from the "mill road," on the westerly side. His wife, Alice, was lost at sea, Oct. 20, 1657, with their son, John, and six others, including William Swayne (2) (p. 57,) whose widow, Prudence, daughter of William Marston (1), Mr. Coxe married June 16, 1658. He died May 28, 1687, aged ninety- three years. Children :

Moses, b. Nov. 2, 1649; prob. d. young.
Leah, b. Ap. 21, 1661; m. James Perkins (7); d. Feb. 19, 1749. She was her father's principal heir, and, with her husband, succeeded to the pa- ternal estate, and lived on a part of the homestead, which has ever since belonged to the Perkins family, and is now held by Dea. Janes Perkins, of the fifth generation.
CRAM.
I. JOHN CRAM was of Exeter, and one of the signers of the Com- bination, soon after the settlement of that town. Not long after, he removed to Hampton and settled on the south side of Taylor's river (now Hampton Falls) near the site of the Weare monument. His wife's name was Hester. She died May 16, 1677. He died Mar. 5, 1682. In the record of his death, he is styled "good old John Cram, one just in his generation." In his will, two sons, Benjamin and Thomas, are mentioned, and two daughters, Mary and Lydia. Chil- dren :
