WILLIAM PIDGIN, clergyman, son of - and Rhoda (Wad- leigh) Pidgin, of Newburyport, was born Mar. 1, 1771 ; prepared for College at Philips Exeter Academy ; graduated Dartmouth College, 1794 ; studied theology with Rev. Daniel Dana, D.D. of Newburyport ; settled pastor of Presbyterian church, Hampton, Jan., 1796 ; married same year, Judith Noyes, of Newburyport, who died July 27, 1823, aged fifty-seven years ; married, second, Jan. 22, 1825, Mrs. Hannah Austin, of Buekfield, Me., who died Mar. 4, 1843. He died in Portland, 1848. Children :

They had two children, one of whom, William A., settled as a printer, in Lewiston, Me.

There is no mention of any Pierce family on the Town Records of Hampton. The following record of the family of John (1) was fur- nished, several years since, by the venerable Daniel Shaw, of Stand- islı, Me., not now living.


I. JOHN PIERCE, born in Ipswich, Mass., settled in Hampton, and married Betsey Johnson ; eventually, removed to Pearsontown, now Standish, Me. ; served in the Revolutionary war ; died in Boston. His widow married, second, John Sanborn. Their children, all born in Hampton, except the youngest :

PRESCOTT.


I. JAMES PRESCOTT was from Lincolnshire, England. He came to Hampton in 1665, and settled in what is now Hampton Falls, where Newell Healey lives. He was one of the grantees of Kingston, in 1694, to which place he removed about thirty years afterward, and died there Nov. 25, 1728, aged about eighty-five. In 1668, he mar- ried Mary, daughter of Nathaniel Boulter (1). Their children :

ROBIE.


HENRY ROBIE (or Roby, as it is oftener spelled on the old records) ·came from England to Dorchester, Mass., in 1639, and the same year settled in Exeter ; was a signer of the Combination ; removed to Hamp- ton soon after 1650 ; was a selectman in 1656, and three times after- ward; a constable in 1661; justice of the peace many years, sitting as a justice in the court for the trial of Joshua Moodey, the pastor of the church in Portsmouth. He was also a standing juryman in the trials of Mason against Richard Waldron and sundry other persons in New Hampshire, for holding lands which he claimed as proprietor of the province. Mr. Robie kept the ordinary (public house) in Hamp- ton about eight or ten years.


I. HENRY ROBIE is said to have been born in 1618. His wife, Ruth, died May 5, 1673, and he married, second, Jan. 19, 1674, widow Elizabeth Garland, daughter of Thomas Philbrick (1). He had a third wife, Sarah, who died Jan. 23, 1703. He died Apr. 22, 1688. Children :


Thomas, b. at Exeter, Mar. 1, 1646 ; m. Dec. 8, 1687, Martha Eaton, who d. Jan. 26, 1720, aged 62 years.


John (2), b. at Exeter, Feb. 2, 1649 ; m. Mary -; killed June 16, 1691. Judith, b. ab. 1650; had a son, John, b. Dec. 6, 1671; afterward m. Samuel Healey (1) ; d. Jan. 17, 1725.


Ruth, b. at HI., Mar. 3, 1654.


Deliverance, b. Mar. 22, 1657.


Samuel (3), b. Aug. 4, 1659 ; m. Mary Page ; d. Aug. 10, 1717.

Deliverance Robie, who m., 1st, John Leavitt, son of Thomas (1) ; 2d, Jolin Nay (2), was prob. a grand-dau. of Henry (1), most likely a dau. of John (2) or Samuel (3) ; she d. 1729 or 1730.


II. JOHN ROBIE, son of Henry (1), married Mary -; removed to Haverhill in Jan., 1675, and lived in that part of the town which fell into New Hampshire at the establishment of the "Mitchell line." His house was within the limits of the present town of Atkinson. He was killed by Indians. His son, Ichabod, who was with him, was taken prisoner, but subsequently escaped. John had seven children, all under twelve at the time of his death. Among these were :
