1814, Betsey, daughter of Capt. Joshua Berry, of Pittsfield, who died Dec. 3, 1884, aged ninety years, nine months. Deacon Drake settled in a new house on a part of the ancient homestead. The old house continued to be the family home till the death of his sister, Sally, the last survivor, in 1882. The following year, their nephew, Jacob T. Brown, who had come into possession, took down a part of the old honse, having built a new one, and the remaining part now does duty as an out-house for the farm. Children :

The Drew family were among the early settlers of Dover, and later of Madbury and Durham.
I. EZRA DREW, tailor, son of Francis and Lydia (Furber) Drew, was born in Madbury, Mar. 24, 1770; lived awhile in Boston, but returned and settled in Greenland, where he married in 1799, Nancy (or Ann), born May 5, 1766, daughter of Joshua and Mary (Brackett) Pickering, of Greenland ; carried on his trade and kept a grocery store. About the time of the beginning of the war of 1812, he sold his es-

tate and opened a public house, having as boarders, some of the British prisoners, among whom were Captain Messinger and Mate Bradley, of the ship "James." In 1815 he resumed his trade; lived a year and a half in York, Me. ; in Oct., 1816, bought a house-lot in Hampton, and in 1821 built his house, where he ever after resided. Mrs. Drew was a niece of IIon. John Pickering, who delivered the address of welcome to Washington, on his visit to Portsmouth, in 1789 ; and whose danghter Hannah married Judge Charles Walker, of Con- cord, and was the mother of Lucretia Pickering Walker, who married Prof. Morse, the renowned electrician. On her mother's side, Mrs. Drew was a niece of George Brackett (a patron of Hampton Academy, and founder of Brackett Academy, Greenland), and of Dr. Joshua Brackett, of Portsmouth. She died Dec. 6, 1832. Mr. Drew died May 30, 1856. Their children :

EASTOW.
I. WILLIAM EASTOW was made freeman, Dec. 13, 1638. He was one of the grantees and first settlers of Hampton ; had ten acres for a house-lot, lying between William Palmer's on the east and William Moulton's (sometimes Thomas Jones') on the west, and the Meeting- house Green on the south. The lot included the present house-lots of Horace Hobbs and Mrs. Mary A. Palmer. Goodman Eastow's wife probably died before he came to Hampton. He was representative three years ; died Nov. 23, 1655. I. HENRY ELKINS, tailor, came early to New England ; lived awhile in Boston ; was admitted freeman, May 6, 1635 ; was among the first settlers of Exeter, and one of the signers of the Combination, in 1639. He removed to Hampton as early as March, 1650, and prob- ably settled where Otis H. Marston now lives. He died Nov. 19, 1668, and is styled in the records "Ould" Henry Elkins. His age is not given. His will, made Apr. 27, 1667, mentions but two children. His wife, Mary, died Mar. 17, 1659. Children : -

His was the first dwelling-house built at Hampton Beach. He afterward removed to Seabrook, and subsequently lived among the Shakers at Canterbury ; lived at Sanbornton, at Hampton, again at Sanbornton, and lastly, at Fisherville, where he died. They had a daughter who married -- Abbott ; perhaps had other children.

XVII. JOHN P. ELKINS, son of Jonathan (12), married Sept. 19, 1851, Mary A., daughter of Thomas L. Marston (50) ; lived twelve years or more in North Hampton, where he kept a store. He was for sometime selectman and school committee. About 1868 he removed to Exeter, and two years later, founded the auction and commission store of Elkins & Graves, of which, in 1878, he became sole pro-

prietor. He was many years on the police force of Exeter, and in 1874-5 was a deputy sheriff. He was a prominent Odd Fellow. The family burial-lot is in Hampton. Children :

I. ANTHONY EMERY, physician, born in Newbury, Mass., Sept. 5, 1713; graduated at Harvard College, 1736 ; married May 10, 1738, Abigail, daughter of Thomas Leavitt (8), of Hampton. He settled first in Chelmsford, Mass., but removed to Hampton perhaps about 1750. Lived on the Alvin Emery place, which he bought of Dr. Clement Jackson (1). He was a surgeon in the army at Louisburg, C. B., and at Crown Point. He died Aug. 19, 1781. Children : John, b. 1739; d. Apr. 11, 1756.
