Left New Albany for New York, and died of influenza October 21, 1918, in St. Vincent's Hospital, New York City. Buried in Holy Trinity Cemetery, New Albany, Ind.

Son of Albert Sherman and Lelia Haws Guernsey; born April 28, 1897, Jeffersonville, Clark County, Ind. Later moved to New Albany, Ind. Clerk, Louisville and Nashville Railroad. Entered U.S. Navy July 22, 1918, Louisville, Ky. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Yeoman School, Ill., where he died of influenza, September 23, 1918. Sent to Camp Greene, N. C .; assigned to Company L, 58th Infantry. Overseas in May, 1918; attached to 1st Division. Participated in battles of the Marne, Chateau- Thierry, Verdun, St. Mihiel Drive, and Argonne Forest. Killed in action October 4, 1918. Buried in American Cemetery, Romagne, France.


JONES, GROVER SERGEANT Son of Newman and Sarah Elizabeth Jones; born February, (date of month not given) 1892, Richland Township, Fountain County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service May 25, 1918, Cov- ington, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind .; assigned to Company E, 2nd Training Battalion, 22nd Engineer Corps. Transferred to Camp Merritt, N. J. Promoted to 1st Sergeant. Went overseas in July, 1918. Killed in railway accident in France, February 4, 1919.


KENDRICK, ALBERT JEFFERSON - PRIVATE Son of Samuel and Jennie Kendrick; born August 15, 1893, near Covington, Ind. Employe of canning factory. Entered service May 25, 1918, Covington, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; transferred to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind .; assigned to Company A. 34th Engineers. Overseas in August, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 4, 1918, Camp Hospital No. 43, France. Body returned to U. S., and buried in Sand Hill Cemetery, Covington, Ind.


KIGHT, FRANK T. PRIVATE Son of Purley and Verna Kight; born August 10, 1896, Cataract, Owen County, Ind. Living in Fountain County, when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army May 7, 1917, Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Assigned to Battery C, 6th Field Artillery. Overseas in July, 1917; attached to 1st Division. His battery is reported to have fired the first shot after the American forces opened fire on the enemy in November, 1917. Gassed. In- valided home; died March 31, 1918, Ft. McHenry, Md. Buried, Attica, Ind.

Y .; assigned to 1st Anti-air Craft Battery, 3rd Company. Promoted to Corporal. Transferred to New Haven, Conn. Died of heart disease December 5, 1918, Ft. Wright, N. Y. Buried in Danville, Ill.


LATOURETTE, CLARENCE PRIVATE Son of George and Ora Blakely Latourette; born March 28, 1900, Covington, Ind. Student. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 6, 1916, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to duty as Ambulance Driver. Trans- ferred to Camp Houston, Tex .; then to Camp Funston, Kan. Overseas in March, 1918. Ambulance driver for Field Hos- pital No. 5. Cited for bravery in action. Killed in action July 31, 1918, by German aviators, Battle of the Marne.

Buried in Sedan-American Cemetery, No. 1203, Letanne, Ardennes.

Entered service April 2, 1918, Covington, Ind. Sent to Ft. Hamilton, N. Y .; assigned to Artillery Corps. Died of pneumonia April 28, 1918, Ft. Hamilton, N. Y. Buried in Fountain Cemetery, Fountain County, Ind. Survived by widow, Anna Harris Marquess.

Over- seas in June, 1918; assigned to Company H, 23rd Infantry, 2nd Division. Participated in battle of Thiacourt, and Mont Blanc Ridge. Died of pneumonia November 23, 1918. (Burial place unknown.)


ODLE, FRANK S. - PRIVATE - Son of John and Mary Odle; born April 29, 1891, Milford, Ill. Family later moved to Veedersburg, Ind. Entered serv- ice June 24, 1918, Covington, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Headquarters Detachment, 336th Infantry, 83rd Division. Transferred to Camp Mills, N. Y. Overseas in September, 1918. Died of pneumonia November 26, 1918, Le Mans, France. Buried in American Cemetery, Le Mans. Survived by widow, Lela Marshall Odle, and two sons, Charles Lawrence, and Carl Marshall, Veedersburg, Ind.


PUGH, VICTOR B. PRIVATE Son of John and Mary Black Pugh; born in Covington, Ind. (Date not known). Entered Canadian Expeditionary Forces April 1, 1918. Assigned to Machine Gun Corps, 2nd Training Battalion. Went overseas, and was killed in action August 8, 1918. (Burial place unknown.)
