HUFFMAN, FREDERICK ROYAL - FIREMAN, 3RD CLASS Son of John C. (deceased) and Margaret Huffman; born September 17, 1893, Bloomfield, Ind. Farmer. Entered U.S. Navy, December 2, 1917. Sent to Newport, R. I .; assigned to duty as fireman on the Mount Vernon. Lost his life September 5, 1918, when the Mount Vernon was torpedoed by a German submarine. Buried in Newberry Cemetery, Greene County, Ind. Crew was commended by Secretary of the Navy for remaining on duty following the torpedoing of vessel.


JOHNSON, GLEASON CORPORAL Son of William F. and Jane Johnson; born July 14, 1892, Greene County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 31, 1917, Terre Haute, Ind., and was sent to Jeffer- son Barracks, Mo. Transferred to Gettysburg, Pa .; then to Camp Greene, N. C. Son of George and Emma Hochstedler; born March 16, 1888, Bunker Hill, Hamilton County, Ind. Employe of Standard Oil Company, Taft, California, when he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Artillery Corps May 2, 1917. Assigned to Second Battery, Anti-aircraft Detachment. Transferred to Ft. McDowell, Cal .; then to San Diego, Cal. Went overseas in December, 1917. Died of disease September 30, 1918, Is-Sur-Tille, France. Buried in American Cemetery, Is-Sur-Tille.


HUNTZINGER, FRANK ELBERT 1ST LIEUTENANT Son of Levi and Mary E. Huntzinger; born November 18, 1886, Wayne Township, Hamilton County, Ind. Prison officer. Entered First Officers Training Camp, Ft. Harrison, Ind. in May, 1917. Commissioned 1st Lieutenant. Assigned to Company E, 120th Infantry. Overseas in September, 1917. Killed in action September 29, 1918, near Bellecourt, France. Buried in Dixie Cemetery, Bellecourt, Aisne, France. The Noblesville Post of the American Legion has been named in his honor.


KISTE, BASIL LARUE - SERGEANT Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Frank Kiste; born July 14, 1895, Hamilton County, Ind. Mechanic. Entered service Sep- tember 20, 1917. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to Com- pany G, 334th Infantry. Transferred to Motor Repair Depart- ment, Unit No. 308. Overseas in September, 1918. Death from drowning February 15, 1919. Buried in American Ceme- tery, No. 6, Bazoilles, Sur Meuse, France, Grave No. 856.

Son of J. B. and Eleanora Leeman; born August 24, 1893, near Aroma, Hamilton County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service October 5, 1917, Noblesville, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to Battery B, 325th Field Artillery. Transferred to 4th Battery, Field Artillery Replacement Regiment. Over- seas in April, 1918; assigned to Battery B, 103rd Field Artillery. Killed in action July 28, 1918, Chateau-Thierry. Buried near Four-A-Verre, France.

Enlisted in U.S. Navy December 1, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill. Transferred to U.S. transport Mallory. Made nine voyages across Atlantic. Contracted tuberculosis; sent to Naval Hospital, Brooklyn, N. Y. Died December 7, 1919. Buried in Mount Run Ceme- tery, Rosston, Boone County, Ind.


MICHAEL, GUY GRIFFITH CORPORAL, U.S.M.C.


Son of Dr. Addison and Louisa Saylor Michael; born Decem- ber 26, 1887, Frankfort, Ind. Family later moved to Nobles- ville, Ind. Educated in Butler College; Indiana Medical College; and Northern Illinois College. Journalist. Enlisted in U.S. Marines June 1, 1917, Cincinnati, Ohio. Sent to Parris Island, S. C .; then to Quantico, Va. Died of nephritis April 10, 1919, Quantico, Va. Buried in Crownland Cemetery, Nobles- ville, Ind. Survived by daughter, Griffetha Virginia Michael, Noblesville, Ind.


MOORE, ROY OTTO YEOMAN Son of Anthony H. and Sarah Moore; born June 26, 1889, Strawtown, Hamilton County, Ind. Bookkeeper. Entered U. S. Navy October 14, 1918. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill .; assigned to duty as Landsman, U.S. Naval Reserve. Died of pneumonia December 14, 1918, U.S. Naval Hospital, Great Lakes, Ill. Buried in Crownland Cemetery, Noblesville, Ind. Survived by widow, Nina Mae Moore, Indianapolis, Ind.


PASSWATER, CHARLES B. CADET AVIATOR Son of Enoch M. and Susan J. Passwater; born September 16, 1890, Hamilton County, Ind. Instructor in Terre Haute Normal School. Enlisted in Aviation Service August 6, 1917, Terre Haute, Ind. Sent to Kelly Field, Tex .; transferred to Mineola, L. I. Killed accidentally May 28, 1918, while attempt- ing to land his plane. Buried in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel, Madison County, Ind.


RINGER, IRA PRIVATE Son of David F. and Rosa Brandon Ringer; born February 3, 1891, Fishers, Hamilton County, Ind. Employed as an automobile mechanic in Los Angeles, Cal. at the time he entered service April 28, 1918. Sent to Camp Lewis, Wash .; assigned to Company F, 361st Infantry. Went overseas; attached to 91st Division. Went into action September 26, and was killed October 9, 1918, near Eglisfontaine, France.
