BAGSHAW, HARRY ENDALL PRIVATE


Son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bagshaw; born August 3, 1887, Birmingham, England. Came to U.S., and settled in Peru, Ind. in 1912. Served four years in U.S. Navy; later joined Minne- sota State Mi itia. Enlisted with the First Canadian Railroad Troops, December 25, 1917. Overseas in January, 1918. In combat service for eight months. Died of pneumonia Febru- ary 3, 1919, in Borden Hospital, Wymouth, England. Sur- vived by widow, Mary A. Bagshaw, and one son, Harry Kendall, Jr.


CRITES, ERNEST A. COOK Son of Joseph and Emma Crites (Speck); born March 29, 1890, Augusta, Wis. Living in Peru, Ind., when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army December 13, 1917. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky .; assigned to Company F, 30th Engineers, 1st Gas Regiment. Embarked for overseas June 30, 1918; participated in battles of St. Mihiel, and Meuse Argonne. Died of pneumonia October 27, 1918. (Burial place unknown).

Contracted tuberculosis, and died April 26, 1920, Oteen (?) General Hospital, N. C. Buried at New Waverly, Cass County, Ind.


FLORA, ĮRALPH NOAH - PRIVATE Son of Merritt and Sarah Flora; born September 23, 1893, Richland Township, Miami County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service August 7, 1918, Peru, Ind. Sent to Camp Sheridan, Ala .; assigned to Company C, 27th Machine Gun Battalion. Died of pneumonia October 22, 1918, Camp Sheridan, Ala. Buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, Miami County, Ind.


GAFFREY, EDWARD CHARLES PRIVATE


Son of Julia Gaffrey (Trass); born February 25, 1896, Peru Ind. Employe of Lake Erie and Western Railroad. Entered service March 29, 1918, Peru, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Overseas in April, 1918. Transferred to Company B, 112th Infantry, 28th Division. Fought in the Aisne-Marne Offensive. Killed in action near Epieds, Aisne, July 25, 1918. Buried, Commune of Verdelot, Seine-et-Marne. First soldier from Miami County to fall on field of action.


GINNEY, JOHN MICHAEL PRIVATE


Son of Michael and Anna R. Ginney; born July 7, 1895, Clay Township, Miami County, Ind. Went to California early in 1917; employed on ranch when he enlisted in Company M, 7th Infantry, California National Guard (Company M, 160th Infantry). Sent to Camp Kearney, Cal. Overseas in June, 1918; assigned to Company F, 58th Infantry, 4th Division. Killed in action August 6, 1918, near Bazoches. Buried in Cemetery No. 784, Grave No. 185, Fismes, Aisne, France. The American Legion Post, Bunker Hill, Ind., named in his honor.


HARMAN, FLOYD ENGINEER, U.S.N.


Son of Jacob and Emma Harman; born December 10, 1891, near Gilead, Miami County, Ind. Automobile mechanic. Enlisted in U.S. Navy, February 15, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill. Transferred to Hampton Roads, Va .; assigned to duty on the Kentucky. Transferred to the mine sweeper Richard Buckley. Lost his life when vessel was sunk, July 12, 1919, Kirkwall, Scotland.

Benjamin Harrison, Ind .; assigned to 62nd Engineering Corps. Embarked for overseas July 14, 1918; assigned to 86th Company, Tank Corps. Killed acci- dentally April 15, 1919, Riaucourt, Haute Marne. Body to be returned to U.S., and interred in National Cemetery, Wash- inton. D. C.

Son of Addison and Nancy Sharp Horton; born October 13, 1891, Van Wert, Ohio. Moved to Miami County, Ind. in 1905. Athletic instructor. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps April 6, 1917, San Francisco, Cal. Sent to Pensacola, Fla .; then to Quantico, Va. Overseas in June, 1917; assigned to 6th Com- pany, 15th Machine Gun Battalion, 2nd Division. In com- bat service during campaign of 1917-18. Died June 30, 1918, from wounds received in action, Bordeaux, France. Body returned to U.S., and buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Macy, Ind.
