Son of Jeremiah and Margaret Allen; born April 14, 1895, near Bloomfield, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April 17, 1917, Bloomfield, Ind. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo .; assigned to Company G, 18th Infantry. Overseas in June, 1917; attached to 1st Division. Received additional training at Houdencourt, France. Participated in battles of Cantigny, and Argonne Forest. Killed in action October 4, 1918, in Argonne Forest Drive. (Burial place unknown).


BASHAW, CLARENCE CORPORAL Son of Charles (deceased) and Ella Stewart Bashaw; born May 27, 1893, near Worthington, Greene County, Ind. En- listed in U.S. Regular Army September 2, 1914; sent to Jeffer- son Barracks, Mo. Saw three years service in the Philippines. Returned to U.S. in 1917; assigned to Troop A, 8th Cavalry. Overseas in March, 1918, with 15th U.S. Cavalry. Died April 19, 1918, in U.S. Hospital, post office address 716 A. E. F. The American Legion Post, Worthington, Ind., is named in his honor.


BEASLEY, GEORGE CLINTON PRIVATE


Son of George R. and Kitturah Sims Beasley (deceased); born January 19, 1895, Linton, Greene County, Ind. Employe of Vandalia Railroad. Entered service in June, 1918, Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was then employed. Sent to Camp Lewis, Wash. Transferred to Camp Mills, L. I .; assigned to Company G, 110th Infantry, 28th Division. Overseas in August, 1918. Killed in action September 29, 1918 in battle of Argonne Forest. Buried in American Cemetery, Romagne, France, Grave 53, Sec. 24, Plot 2.


BRADLEY, JOSEPH WILLIAM PRIVATE Son of Robert and Emily Bradley (Hodgson); born June 24, 1894, Linton, Greene County, Ind. Miner. Entered service March 29, 1918, Bloomfield, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to 10th Company, 3rd Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala .; assigned to Company L, 116th Infantry, 29th Division. Overseas in June, 1918. Killed in action in battle of Argonne Forest, October 15, 1918. (Burial place unknown).

Son of Alva and Rosa Coster; born March 23, 1893, Hen- dricksville, Greene County, Ind. Entered service September 20, 1917, Bloomfield, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; trans- ferred to Machine Gun Company, 162nd Infantry, and went overseas in June, 1918. Assigned to Company C, 11th Machine Gun Battalion. Participated in battles of the Marne, and Verdun. Killed in action October 19, 1918, Meuse Argonne Drive. (Burial place unknown).


COURTNEY, FRANK OWEN CORPORAL


Son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Courtney; born May 16, 1900, Newberry, Greene County, Ind. High school student at time of his enlistement in U.S. Regular Army, April 17, 1917, Linton, Ind. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo .; assigned to Company B, 16th Infantry. Overseas in June, 1917; attached to 1st Division. Died July 23, 1918 in Evacuation Hospital No. 5 from wounds received in action. Buried near Crepy, Oise, France. The American Legion Post, Linton, Ind., named in his honor.


CROSS, GEORGE E. PRIVATE Son of Henry and Emma Cross; born January 1, 1893, Marco, Greene County, Ind. Entered service June 23, 1918, Bloomfield, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; transferred to Camp Mills, N. Y .; assigned to Company M, 333rd Infan- try, 84th Division. Overseas in September, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 29, 1918, Base Hospital No. 83. Buried in American Cemetery Revigny, Meuse, Grave No. 167, Section L. Plot 4.


DALTON, THURMAN PRIVATE


Son of James B. and Mary Dalton; born October 2, 1891, near Washington, Ind. Living in Lyons, Greene County, at time he entered service, September 5, 1918. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to 24th Company, 6th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Died of influenza October 8, 1918, Base Hospital Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried near Lyons, Greene County, Ind. Survived by widow, Hazel Grounds Dalton, Lyons, Ind.


DIXON, CHARLES ELLIOTT SERGEANT


Son of Emanuel and Anna Jones Dixon (deceased); born September 22, 1895, Dugger, Sullivan County, Ind. Family moved to Linton, Greene County, in 1897. Educated in Pur- due University, and University of Missouri. Bacteriologist, Eli Lilly Laboratory, Greenfield, Ind. Entered service Decem- ber 8, 1917, Indianapolis. Overseas in September, 1918. As- signed to Camp Hospital No. 55, Ferriers, France. Killed in railroad accident May 23, 1919, Moret Sablons, France. Buried at Suresnes, France.

FRYE, JAMES R. - FIREMAN, 2ND CLASS, U.S.N.


Son of Henry (deceased) and Margaret Frye; born January 31, 1894, Switz City, Greene County, Ind. Railroad employe. Enlisted in U.S. Navy, May 25, 1917, Indianapolis. Assigned to duty as Fireman, 2nd class, on the Neptune. Transferred to hospital ship Mercy. Tuberculosis developed; he was sent to army hospital, Ft. Lyons, Col. While home on furlough he contracted influenza, and died January 18, 1919, while still in service. Buried in Switz City, Ind.
