Sent to Newport News, Va .; assigned to Headquarters Company, Quarter- master's Corps. Overseas in September, 1918; assigned to Headquarters Company, 341st Labor Battalion. With Army of Occupation into Germany, following signing of Armistice. Died of meningitis April 30, 1919. (Place unknown).

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Harber; born September 18, 1891, Ninemile, Allen County, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April 3, 1917, Fort Wayne, Ind. Sent to Ft. Hamilton, N. Y .; assigned to 12th Provisional Training Battalion. Pre- paring for overseas service when he contracted pneumonia, and died April 27, 1918, in the Base Hospital, Fort Hamilton, N. Y. Buried with military honors in the Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.

HILGEMAN WILLIAM RUDOLPH - FIREMAN, U.S.N. Son of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Hilgeman; born June 24, 1892, Fort Wayne, Ind. Machinist. Entered service December 12, 1917, and was sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill. Assigned to duty as Fireman. Died September 29, 1918, Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Ill. Buried with military honors in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.
HILL, EDWARD LEON PRIVATE
Son of Ernest O. and Myrtle Hill (Mason); born January 1, 1899, Alton, Ill. Moved to Allen County, Ind. in 1911. En- listed in Indiana National Guard in April 1916, for service on the Mexican Border. In September, 1917, he enlisted in the Canadian Army, Victoria, British Columbia; assigned to the 50th Gordon Highlanders, and went overseas in November, 1917. Killed in action August 9, 1918, while serving with the 72nd Battalion, on the Flanders Front.

Son of John H. and Delilah DeHoff Hollehan; born October 5, 1893, Briceton, Ohio. Living in Fort Wayne, Ind. when he enlisted in Indiana National Guard, Company E, 1st Infantry (Company E, 151st Infantry) April 11, 1917. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas October 14, 1918; transferred to 116th Infantry, 29th Division. Died of influenza November 1, 1918, Gravesend, England. Body returned and buried in Linden- wood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Born April 10, 1892, Fort Wayne, Ind. Parents both died when he was a mere boy; reared by his stepfather, Warren D. Smitley. Graduated from the Winona (Indiana) Academy. Enlisted in U. S. Regular Army July 21, 1917, Fort Wayne, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to Machine Gun Company, 10th Infantry. Transferred to Camp Custer, Mich., where he died of influenza October 7, 1918. Buried with mili- tary honors in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.
HURWITZ, SAMUEL M. PRIVATE
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Mordecai Hurwitz; born March 6 1895, Russia. Came to America only a short time before declaration of war against Germany. Although he had not taken out naturalization papers, he registered, was accepted, and in June, 1918, was sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio. Assigned to 6th Company, 2nd Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Died of influenza October 13, 1918, Camp Sherman. Buried in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Son of Charles Wesley and Anna Dorsey Jackson; born January 28, 1895, on a farm in Allen County, Ind., near the Ohio state boundary line. Farmer. Entered service De- cember 12, 1917, Fort Wayne, Ind. Went overseas in March, 1918; assigned to Company K, Machine Gun Battalion, 38th Infantry, 3rd Division. Killed in action July 22, 1918, battle of the Marne. Buried in American Cemetery, No. 608, Serin- geset-Nesles, Aisne, France.
JAENICKE, KURT PRIVATE
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Jaenicke; born June 11, 1893, Erfurt, Germany. Came with parents to U.S. in early child- hood, and in 1917 settled in Fort Wayne, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army August 1, 1917, Kansas City, Mo. Trans- ferred to Camp Doniphan, Okla .; assigned to Company D, 138th Infantry. Died March A$ 1918 from an operation for mastoids. Buried with military honors in Lindenwood Ceme- tery, Fort Wayne, Ind.
