Sent to Newport News, Va .; assigned to Medical Detachment. Transferred to Head- quarters Company, 60th Coast Artillery Corps. Overseas in April, 1918. Took part in battles of St. Mihiel and Argonne Forest. Killed in action October 14, 1918, Argonne Forest.


MADARY, OTTO CORPORAL Son of Albert and Susan Zabst Madary; born January 13, 1890, Fulton County, Ind. Employe of Wabash Railroad, working out of Toledo, Ohio. Entered service October 5, 1917, Toledo, Ohio. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company L, 148th Infantry. Transferred to Camp Sheridan, Ala., and later to Camp Lee, Va. Went overseas in June, 1918. Killed in action November 2, 1918, in the Argonne Drive. (Burial place unknown.)


MERLEY, ADOLPH R. PRIVATE Son of Charles and Sarah E. Merley; born November 21, 1895, Akron, Fulton County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Indiana National Guard, Company H, 3rd Regiment, June 5, 1917, Warsaw, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss. Trans- ferred to Battery D, 137th Field Artillery. Overseas in June 1918, with Battery A, 18th Field Artillery, 3d Division. Took part in the Meuse Argonne Drive. Died of influenza December 25, 1918, Toul, France. The American Legion Post, Akron, Ind., is named in his honor.


MIKESELL, DEANE WILBER -- RADIO OPERATOR, U.S.N.


Son of Enoch H. and Lucy P. Mikesell; born in 1897, (exact date not known). Teacher. Entered service May 30, 1918, and was sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill .; assigned to Radio Service with Company O, Radio Depot. Stricken with influenza, he died September 22, 1918, in Base Hospital, Chicago, Ill. Buried in Rochester, Ind.


MURPHY, RAYMOND GEORGE - PRIVATE, SIGNAL CORPS Son of Alpheus and Clara Murphy; born in 1897, (date and month not given). Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April 17, 1917, Rochester, Ind. Sent to Columbus Bar- racks, Ohio; transferred to Ft. Sam Houston, Tex .; assigned to 3rd Aero Squadron, Signal Corps. Transferred to 5th Aero Squadron. Died of spinal meningitis May 21, 1917, Ft. Houston, Tex. Buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester, Ind.

NICODEMUS, JOHN A. PRIVATE


Son of William and Agnes Nicodemus; born January 19, 1900, Dowagiac, Mich. Living in Rochester, Ind., when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army January 4, 1917, Columbus Barracks, Ohio. Sent to Ft. Houston, Tex .; assigned to Com- pany B, 3rd Infantry. Overseas in June, 1917, with Company F, 26th Infantry, 1st Division. In July, 1918, he was severely wounded, and erroneously reported killed. Recovered, and returned to duty. Killed in action sometime between October 1 and 11, 1918, in the Argonne Drive.


REISH, OMER GUY PRIVATE


Son of Calvin W. (deceased) and Elizabeth E. Reish; born October 7, 1886, Leiters Ford, Fulton County, Ind. Employe of Chicago and Erie Railroad. Entered service June 14, 1918, Rochester, Ind. Sent to Indianapolis; assigned to Chamber of Commerce Training Detachment. Transferred to Camp Jackson, S. C .; assigned to Battery A, 12th Regiment, Field Artillery Replacement Depot. Died of pneumonia October 27, 1918, Camp Jackson, S. C. Buried, Leiters Ford, Ind. Survived by widow, Goldie Watson Reish, and one son, Guy Reish, Jr.


SHELTON, LEROY C. PRIVATE


Son of P. Eugene and Aletha Shelton; born September 1, 1886, Marshall County, Ind. Moved with parents to Fulton County in 1888. Clerk. Entered service March 29, 1918, Rochester, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to 11th Company, 3rd Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Over- seas in May, 1918; assigned to Company A, 111th Infantry, 28th Division. Fought at Chateau-Thierry, and Vesle River. Killed in action August 10, 1918, Fismette, France. The American Legion Post, Rochester, Ind., named in his honor.


SNYDER, JESSE LE ROY PRIVATE


Son of William and Elizabeth H. Snyder; born October 2, 1897, Cass County, Ind. Later moved to Fulton County, (date not known). Called into service September 3, 1918, Rochester, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to 13th Company, 4th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia October 27, 1918, Base Hospital, Camp Taylor. Buried in Deer Creek Cemetery, Fulton County, Ind.


VAN METER, FRANK SERGEANT


Son of Hugh and Rose Van Meter; born December 25, 1894, near Kewanna, Fulton County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, November 4, 1914, Logansport, Ind. Stationed at Columbus Barracks, Ohio. Transferred to Ft. Robinson, Neb., and then to Camp Stanley, Tex .; assigned to Troop F, 12th Cavalry Troops, Columbus, N. M., where he died of influenza, October 29, 1918. Buried in Grasscreek Cemetery, Fulton County, Ind.
