SCHULTZ, JOSEPH JAMES SEAMAN Born May 30, 1894, in Poland. Came to the U.S., and was living in Fort Wayne, Ind., when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, April 26, 1917. Attained the rank of seaman. Drowned November 1, 1917, off U.S. coast, when the launch which he and some comrades were using for transport in order to board the battleship Michigan, capsized. The bodies were recovered, and Seaman Schultz's remains were returned to Fort Wayne, Ind., and interred in the Catholic Cemetery.

He left home early in 1915, went to Canada, and enlisted in the 44th Canadian Battalion. Went overseas; assigned to the Rifle Section, 9th Platoon, 44th Battalion. Killed in action August 10, 1918, battle of Amiens, France. (Burial place unknown).

Sent to Norfolk, Va. Advanced to second class fireman, U.S.N. Died of diphtheria March 4, 1918, Naval Base Hospital, Norfolk, Va. Buried with military honors in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.
THIEME, ERNEST RHINEHART PRIVATE Son of Ernest S. (deceased) and Agnes Thieme; born April 5, 1889, Fort Wayne, Ind. Entered service in March, 1918; sent to Camp Grant, Ill .; assigned to Battery C, 340th Field Artillery. Overseas in June, 1918, attached to Eighty-ninth Division. Following signing of Armistice, went with Army of Occupation into Germany. Sailed for U.S. in May, 1919. Stricken with influenza enroute, died on board ship America, May 22, 1918. Buried in Concordia Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Buried in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, with military honors. Survived by widow, Helen Hatch Trosin, Fort Wayne, Ind.
UETRECHT, CLIFFORD C. - PRIVATE Son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Uetrecht; born July 26, 1892, Fort Wayne, Ind. Entered service July 25, 1918. Sent to Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind .; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 118th Engineers. Overseas in September, 1918, with 145th Company, Motor Transport Corps. Returned to U.S. in July, 1919. Stricken with meningitis on board ship, he died July 13, 1919, Hoboken, N. J. Buried with military honors in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Son of William and Cora B. Wagner; born May 12, 1900, Fort Wayne, Ind. Served with the Indiana National Guard on the Mexican Border in 1916. Re-enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps May 12, 1917, Fort Wayne. Sent to Parris Island, S. C .; assigned to 5th Regiment, 1st Division. Went overseas, and was wounded in battle of Chateau-Thierry, Invalided to U.S .; placed in the Marine Hospital, New York City, where he died October 18, 1918. Buried in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.
WALDA, CLINTON C. PRIVATE Son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman C. Walda; born May 9, 1895, Fort Wayne, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army May 11, 1917, Fort Wayne, Ind. Sent to Fort Thomas, Ky .; assigned to Battery E, 5th Field Artillery. Went overseas (date not known) and was killed in action, April 29, 1918. (Place unknown).

Son of E. C. and Clara Sordelet Weaver; born November 22, 1900 (1901?), Fort Wayne, Ind. High school student. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army February 3, 1917, and was sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio. Went overseas with Company F, 16th Infantry, Ist Division in June, 1917. Took part in the campaigns of 1917-1918. Wounded three times, recovered; returned to duty. Died June 12, 1918, from wounds received in action. (Burial place unknown).

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Welling; born May 8, 1892, New Haven, Allen County, Ind. Entered service Sep- tember 19, 1917, Fort Wayne, Ind., and was sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa. Transferred to Camp Logan, Tex .; assigned to Company G, 131st Infantry; thence to Remount Depot, 325th Veterinary Corps. While on drill duty he was kicked by a mule, causing his death May 17, 1918. Buried with military honors, near his home, New Haven, Ind.

Enlisted in Indiana National Guard in August, 1916, Fort Wayne, for service on the Mexican Border. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, March 26, 1917. Sent to Camp Colt, Pa. Went overseas in April, 1918; assigned to Company I, 4th Infantry, 3rd Division. Killed in action July 15, 1918, at Chateau Thierry. Buried, Chateau-Thierry, France.
