STREIT, JOHN J. PRIVATE Son of Frank and Elizabeth Streit; born March 16, 1894, near North Vernon, Ind. Farmer. Shortly before he was called into service he had moved to Tipton County, where he entered service April 26, 1918. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to 23rd Company, 6th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Died of influenza May 18, 1918, Base Hospital, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried in North Vernon Cemetery, North Vernon, Ind.
THORNTON, JAMES HARRY CORPORAL
Son of L. Scott and Hattie Day Thornton; born January 6, 1900, Jennings County, Ind. On January 12, 1917 he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, and was sent to Fort Bliss, Tex .; assigned to Company H, 327th Infantry. Transferred to Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. Went overseas in April 1918; assigned to Company M, 6th Infantry. Died August 17, 1918, from wounds received in action, Frapelle, France.

Son of John and Susan Cutsinger Troutman (deceased); born March 28, 1892 near Shoals, Martin County, Ind. Family later moved to Jennings County, and settled on a farm near North Vernon. Called into service September 3, 1918, and was sent to Camp Grant, Ill .; assigned to Company C, 1st Training Battalion, 5th Limited Service Regiment, where he died of influenza October 4, 1918. Buried in Liberty Cemetery, Georgia, Lawrence County, Ind.

Son of William A. and Mary Updike; born February 10, 1895, near Scipio, Jennings County, Ind. Employe of the L.D. Tyler Furniture Company, Indianapolis. Entered service October 14, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to Company K, 334th Infantry. Embarked for overseas May 16, 1918; assigned to Company E, 132nd Infantry, 33rd Division. Killed in action near Verdun October 9, 1918. (Burial place unknown.)
