Son of William Henry and Sarah Fox; born September 21, 1891, Bedford, Lawrence County, Ind. Later moved to Koko- mo, Howard County, (exact date not given), where he enlisted in Company E, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, (Com- pany E, 152nd Infantry) June 25, 1917. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss .; transferred to the Machine Gun Company, 152nd Infan- try. Overseas in October, 1918. Stricken with influenza, he died October 17, 1918, in Army Hospital in Liverpool, England. Buried in Everton Cemetery, Liverpool.


GOLLADAY, JAMES DE ARMOND BUGLER Son of William S. and Minnie Golladay (Hankins); born July 13, 1899, Kokomo, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 23, 1917, Kokomo, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Overseas in October, 1917, with Company D, 28th Infan- try. Killed in action March 18, 1918, being the first Howard County soldier to give his life on the battle fields of Europe. Buried in grave No. 234, Maudre, France. The American Legion Post, Kokomo, Ind., is named in his honor.


GOUDY, GEORGE RAY PRIVATE, U.S.M.C.


Son of George Alva and Estella M. Goudy; born November 30, 1899, Kokomo, Ind. High school student. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps March 23, 1917, Kokomo, and sent to Parris Island, S. C. Went overseas; attached to automatic gun crew Participated in battle of Chateau-Thierry, and Belleau Wood. Took part in drive at St. Mihiel, and while carrying water to a wounded comrade, was killed September 15, 1918. Buried at Jaulny, France.


GULLION, ANNAS PRIVATE Son of Elmer and Clara Sherman Gullion (Runell); born May 1, 1896, Logansport, Ind. Moved to Kokomo, Ind., in 19 0. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army June 10, 1917, Kokomo. Trans- ferred to Camp Taylor, Ky .; then to U.S. Army Hospital, Ft. Bayard, N. M., where he died of tuberculosis, January 13, 1919. Buried in Montpelier, Blackford County, Ind. Survived by widow, Edna Anne Shannon Henderson.

Son of William H. and Martha Hollingsworth; born Novem- ber 6, 1896, Edwardsport, Knox County, Ind. Moved to Howard County in 1909. Employe in Stellite Factory, Koko- mo, Ind., when he was called into service September 4, 1918. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to headquarters Company, 70th Field Artillery. Transferred to Camp Knox, Ky., where he died of influenza October 10, 1918. Buried in Albright Cemetery, Oakford, Howard County, Ind.


IRVIN, WALTER LONG - PRIVATE


Son of Fred B. and Jessie S. Irvin; born August 18, 1890, Howard County, Ind. Entered service March 11, 1918; assigned to aviation service. Sent to Kelly Field, Tex. Transferred to Carnegie Institute, Pittsburg, Pa. for training in aerial mechan- ics; then to Hempstead, N. Y. In July, 1918, he sailed for England with 267th Aero Squadron. Died of influenza Novem- ber 7, 1918, Shorncliffe, England. Body returned, and buried in Kokomo, Ind.


JENKINS, CHARLES SAMPSON SERGEANT Son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Jenkins; born June 30, 1898, Greentown, Howard County, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 21, 1916. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to Medical Department; transferred to Ft. Clark, Tex .; thence to Camp Travis, Tex .; then to Newport News, Va. Assigned to Hospital duty in the National Soldier's Home. Death resulted from drowning April 24, 1919, Newport News, Va. Body recovered, and sent to Kokomo, Ind. for burial.


KIMBALL, WILLIS OTTO PRIVATE


Son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kimball (father deceased); born June 17, 1900, Middlefork, Clinton County, Ind. Following the death of his father, he made his home with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Whitecotton, Kokomo, Ind. Enlisted in Battery B, 150th Field Artillery in July, 1917. Overseas in October, 1917. The last word received from him was dated August 9, 1918, In May, 1919, message received that he had died from gun shot wounds, received accidentally, February 18, 1919, "in France."

Son of Benjamin L. and Mary Drake Lynch; born December 29, 1873, Bourbon, Marshall County, Ind. Moved to Howard County, Ind., in 1889. Enlisted March 18, 1918, Washington, D. C. Stationed at Camp Holabird, Md. with Repair Unit No. 306. Later transferred to the repair shop as master me- chanic, and promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant, Senior Grade. Died of pneumonia March 16, 1919, Ft. McHenry, Md. Body returned to Kokomo, Ind. for burial.

Stricken with influenza, he died December 7, 1918. Buried at Russia- ville, Howard County, Ind.

METZ, EMIN LEROY SERGEANT


Son of John and Carrie Schafer Metz; born December 4, 1891, Howard County, Ind. Attending the Illinois Holiness College, Olivet, Ill., preparing for the ministry, when he entered service June 26, 1918. Sent to Camp Jackson, S. C .; assigned to Company C, 12th Field Artillery Replacement Depot. Promoted to Sergeant. Died of pneumonia October 4, 1918. Buried in the family cemetery, three miles west of Plevna, Howard County, Ind.


MORGAN, CLARENCE ORVILLE PRIVATE


Son of L. J. and Luellen Herron Morgan; born July 8, 1895, Swayzee, Grant County, Ind. Moved to Howard County in 1916. Entered service April 3, 1918, Kokomo. Sent to Ft. Hamilton, N. Y .; assigned to 12th Company, Coast Artillery Corps. One week from the day he left home, he was stricken with pneumonia, taken to the First Aid Hospital, where he died April 16, 1918. Buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Swayzee, Grant County, Ind.

RAGAN, ARTHUR EDWARD SERGEANT Son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ragan; born in 1895 (exact date not known), Kokomo, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, January, 1917, Kokomo. Son of William and Jane Reed; born May 19, 1888, Nevada, Ind., near the Tipton-Howard County line. Entered service in September, 1917, Kokomo, Ind. Sent to Camp Greene, N. C .; assigned to Company E, 61st Infantry. Went overseas, and was seriously wounded in action, October 30, 1918, and died two days later. Buried in U.S. Cemetery, Esnes, No. 673, Grave No. 35, France. Awarded Distinguished Service Cross (post- humously) for bravery in action.


ROCKEY, EVERETT LEE GUNNER


Son of Isaac L. and Mary Ella Rockey; born March 30, 1896, Harrison Township, Howard County, Ind. Entered service December 17, 1917, and was sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Trans- ferred to Camp Merritt, N. J., and went overseas in April, 1918. Assigned to Battery E, 6th Field Artillery. While participating in the Argonne Drive, he was killed in action, October 1, 1918. Buried in Argonne, American Cemetery, Romagne, France.

Son of Thomas and Anna Horoho Ryan; born September 7, 1891, Kokomo, Ind. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to the Great Lakes Naval Train- ing Station, Chicago, where he was given the rank of Carpenter, 2nd Class. Stricken with influenza, he died September 24, 1918, and the body was sent to Kokomo, Ind. for burial.


THARP, ARTHUR E. PRIVATE


Son of Lewis W. and Ada Tharp; born December 9, 1900, Anderson, Ind. Moved to Kokomo in 1906. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, March 17, 1917, and sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky. Transferred to Ft. Terry, N. Y .; then to Camp Robinson, Wis., and later to Camp Greene, N. C. Went overseas in May, 1918; assigned to Battery A, 16th Field Artillery. Went into action, and was killed August 12th, 1918. TREES, JOHN G. - PRIVATE


Son of John S. and Alice Trees; born June 24, 1884, Howard County, Ind. Tried several times to enlist in the army of the U.S., but was rejected because he was below the required height. On May 10, 1918 he enlisted in the Canadian Army, Toronto, Canada. Assigned to the Medical Corps. Died September, 1918, from heart disease, Camp Niagara, Ontario, Canada. Body returned to Kokomo, Ind., for burial.

Sent to Camp Baldwin, Colo. Transferred to Camp Kearney, Cal. Sent to Camp Merritt, N. J. Went overseas in June, 1918. Killed in action Septem- ber 7, 1918, Fismes, France. Buried in American Cemetery No. 617, Grave No. 133, Sec. B, Plot 3, Fismes, France.

Son of John W. (deceased) and Sarah Irwin Surran; born June 17, 1888, Warren, Huntington County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service May 28, 1918, Edwardsburg, Mich. Sent to Camp Custer, Mich .; assigned to Company A, 339th Infantry. Went overseas; and sent to Russia. Contracted pneumonia, and died October 14, 1918, Brenika, Russia. Body returned to U.S., and buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren, Huntington County, Ind.


TAYLOR, VICTOR HUGO PRIVATE Son of John W. and Charlotte Minnick Taylor; born April 13, 1895, Union Township, Huntington County, Ind. Car- penter. Entered service September 30, 1917, Huntington, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss .; assigned to Company C, 139th Field Artillery. Overseas in October, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 17, 1918, on board the boat after its arrival at Liverpool, England. Buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brown's Corner, Huntington County, Ind. The American Legion Post, Markle, Ind., named in his honor.


WHITELOCK, CHARLES NOTTINGHAM - PRIVATE


Son of Orlando W. and Jennie Nottingham Whitelock; born June 10, 1896, Huntington, Ind. Attending Elon College, N. C., when he enlisted in Ambulance Corps, Red Cross Company 18, August 4, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Camp Grant, Ill .; assigned to 3rd Ambulance Company, 311th Sanitary Train. Died October 4, 1917, Base Hospital, Camp Grant, Ill., fol- lowing operation for appendicitis. Buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Huntington, Ind.


YOCUM, ERNEST PRIVATE


Son of Joel and Elizabeth Yocum; born April 23, 1894, Baker, Neb. Moved to Huntington County, Ind. in early life (exact date not given.) Laborer. Enlisted in Company C, 4th Infantry, Indiana National Guard, Huntington, Ind., August 5, 1917. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss .; assigned to Battery E, 139th Field Artillery. Died of mumps and influ- enza April 3, 1918, Camp Shelby, Miss. Buried near Camp Shelby, Miss.

AKERS, STANLEY GARLAND PRIVATE Son of George and Pearl Akers; born September 17, 1897, Freetown, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 6, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky .; assigned to Battery C, 70th Field Artillery. While home on furlough, he died from gun shot wounds, received from his own gun while hunting, October 17, 1918. Buried in Wegan Cemetery, near Brownstown, Ind.


ALLMAN, FRED - PRIVATE Son of Phillip and Sarah Allman; born May 16, 1891, Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 26, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Camp Sher- man, Ohio; assigned to 17th Company, 5th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Company E, 334th Infantry. Overseas in August, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 16, 1918, "in France." Survived by widow, Flossie Allman, and one son, Clarence Allman, Surprise, Jackson County, Ind.

Son of Joseph E. and Carrie E. Arbuckle; born September 22, 1898, Scott County, Ind. Moved to Jackson County in 1901. Contractor. Enlisted in Company K, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, (152nd Infantry) July 20, 1917, Seymour, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas in June, 1918; assigned to Company K, 4th Infantry, 3rd Division. Killed in action July 25, 1918, battle of Chateau-Thierry. Buried in American Cemetery No. 608, Seringes-et-Nesles, France.


BREWER, FRANCIS MARVIN PRIVATE


Son of C. W. (deceased) and Martha Brewer (Johnson); born February 28, 1897, Vallonia, Jackson County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service January 30, 1918, Brownstown, Ind. Sent to Ft. Harrison, Ind .; then to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; and later to Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. Assigned to the 20th Company Engineers. Died in Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C., July 17, 1918, following an operation for tumor. Buried in Vallonia Cemetery, Jackson County, Ind.
