In 1829 Phineas entered into an agreement to support his parents, but sold in 1835; he had bought of his father in 1832 three acres on which was a shoemaker's shop. After he went west Gen. Stevens lived with his daughter Betsey, then Mrs. Tenney. Some idea of the Gen- eral's holdings can be obtained from an advertisement in 1803, when he offered for sale a farm of 300 acres, house and two barns, and 500 or 600 acres of wild land all within two miles of the center of the town.
ABEL STEVENS, of whom little regarding his lineage has been learned, m. Ruth In 1781 he was a member of the Gen. Assembly, from New Grantham, N. H., and took part in the deliberations respecting the union of the N. H. towns with Vermont, voting against the calling of a convention to settle

the matter. He was appointed justice of the peace for Windsor county, which will account for New Grantham records being combined with Roy. records. In 1785 he bought E. 30 L. A. He continued to serve in Roy. as justice of the peace for 15 years; was selectman three terms, and represented the town in the legislature, 1796, 1801. He was town clerk, 1788-1805. He is always called Esquire in the records.

Dec. 20, 1808, Sharon ; d. Mar. 30, 1867, Roy. The father of Mr. Stevens was a clergyman and cousin of Gen. Stevens. His grandfather is said to have been named Andrew, also, the son of Lord Stevens of London. Andrew, Jr., rem. from old Rochester, Mass., to Barnard in the latter part of the 18th century. Elias P. lived on Broad Brook on the farm lately owned by Roy Allen. He was a clergyman, preach- ing as health and opportunity afforded.

His father was a brother of Elias P. His family were all musical and his daughter Lizzie possessed one of the rarest contralto voices ever heard in Windsor county. Their home life was enriched and made happy by the exercise of this gift.

STORRS FAMILY.
HUCKENS [4] STORRS (Huckens [3], Sam. [2], Sam. [1]), b. Nov. 6, 1732, Mansfield, Conn .; d. Mar. 26, 1786, Roy .; m. Nov. 16, 1757, Jerusha, dau. Zachariah Bicknell of Ashford, Conn., and wid. of Joshua Alden. Huckens was one of the original proprietors of Lebanon, N. H., and was in that town about 1867 it would seem. Huckens and Huckens, Jr., were among the grantees of Hanover, N. H. He bought S. 31 Dutch and 35 Dutch of Isaac Morgan, Dec. 9, 1782. At the time of his death his estate was valued at over $7,000, including 100 acres, the home farm, two houses, barn, blacksmith shop, malt house and hair cloth for drying malt, grist and bolling mill, and saw mill, and a right in Washington. He came of a military family. Ten of its members served in the Revolution. His brother Experience was Lieut. Col. His brother Aaron settled in Rand. Aaron gave 200 acres to Dartmouth college, Huck- ens, Sr., and Huckens, Jr., each 100, and five other members of the family gave 350 acres. Huckens is buried in S. Roy. Cem. * i. Jerusha, b. 1. RICHARD MONTGOMERY [6] STOUGHTON (Na- thaniel [5], Nathaniel [4], John [3], Ensign Thomas [2], Thomas [1]), b. Mar. 10, 1792, Weathersfield; d. Sep. 21, 1875, Royalton; m. May 6, 1813, Polly Goddard Fay, b. Oct. 6, 1795, Reading; d. Feb. 24, 1889, Charlestown, N. H. He was a car- penter and builder, and lived in various towns of the state. He spent a year at Quechee, superintending the carpenter work on a woolen mill. In 1834 he rem. to Sharon, and in 1845 to Roy- alton, in order to educate his children at the academy here, and this place became his permanent home. He was a Democrat until the Civil War, when he joined the Republican party. In Weathersfield he served as deputy sheriff. He was a member of the Methodist church, and always a leader in the choir. 4. DANIEL GODDARD [7] STOUGHTON, son of Rich- ard Montgomery [6], b. Jan. 23, 1826, Reading; m. Oct. 7, 1856, Caroline L., dau. William W. and Sarah (Willard) Patch of Worcester, Mass. He was a student at Royalton Academy one year; a farmer in Royalton, Hartland, and Millbury, Mass., until 1850; a farmer, grain and milk dealer in Worcester, Mass., for fifteen years; station agent at So. Royalton four years, and

at Charlestown, N. H., twenty-one years; owned and carried on a large farm in Charlestown until 1905, keeping an average of twenty-five cows; chairman of the school board for ten years. i. George Henry [8], b. So. Royalton, July 11, 1862; m. Oct. 29, 1890, Ella J., dau. Lyman C. and Nancy E. (Churchill) Frost. Ch .: Howard [9], a student at Dartmouth College, Eliot Frost, Carolyn, Edith Frost, and Lyman Daniel. George Henry was engaged in rail- road work for a number of years, conducted a harness shop in Charlestown for four years, was employed in the Savings Bank there, and is now conducting an insurance business on a large scale. He has served as selectman, is past and present master of Lodge No. 12, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Charlestown, and is an Odd Fellow. He lives with his father.

5. HORACE EVERETT [7] STOUGHTON, son of Rich- ard Montgomery [6], b. Nov. 22, Reading; d. Sep. 10, 1875, killed on the cars at Montpelier Junction, C. V. R. R .; m. (1) May 10, 1855, Abbie Louise, dau. Alvin and Roxana (Barrett) (Chamberlain) Eaton, b. Aug. 30, 1839, Warren, N. H .; d. May 2, 1863, Roy .; m. (2) May 29, 1864, Eliza Ann, sister of first wife, b. Dec. 26, 1836, Woodstock. He was station agent both at Royalton and South Royalton for a number of years. He was employed by the C. V. R. R. as agent, and to look after lost freight for a period of twenty-three years. His untimely death was much lamented by the community.
