Nathaniel Evans was one of the boys captured by the Indians and released at the intercession of Mrs. Handy. His son Charles was the victim of an Indian massacre in Texas.

RICHARD EVANS, b. 1755; d. Mar. 16, 1842, Roy .; bur. Roy. Broad Brook Cem .; m. Sep. 16, 1800, Jerusha Noonan. Not much is known of Richard. He removed from Pomfret to Roy- alton and lived on Broad Brook. In Pomfret he used to remark that he had seen this section of country before moving here, and some thought he was with the British at the Royalton raid. He claimed to be a deserter from the British army, and that he shod their horses. He was an exhorter in meeting. At one time he described the Garden of Eden. After telling how it looked, what was in it, how God created man, then woman, he said, "And Eve took the apple from the sarpint and tasted it, and it tasted good, so she told Adam to taste it, and he did. Then they heard God calling, 'Adam, Eve, where are you?' They scampered away through the Garden, and God chased after them, and caught them, and shook them and said, 'What you been doing, you blood rascals ?'" Mrs. Evans was the mother of Mrs. Noah Goff, and they probably spent their last days with her. He seems to have owned no land.

Her funeral occurred just seventy-eight years from the day she was first married. Mr. Felch removed from Henniker, N. H., to Royalton about 1851, and settled near Ha- vensville.
