HISTORY OF ROYALTON, VERMONT

There is a tradition in the family that during the Revolutionary war Timothy was taken prisoner by the Indians, and while in cap- tivity he so ingratiated himself into their favor that he was allowed to participate in their games. He was very fleet of foot, but concealed this fact. On one occasion the games consisted of jumping and running, and at the first trial he allowed the young Indian pitted against him to win the race, but on the second trial he exerted himself to the utmost, and made his escape.

ALEXANDER WOODWORTH, probably the brother of Timothy. He was first listed in 1793. He m. (1) Polly who d. Dec. 6, 1795, Roy .; m. (2) Dec. 9, 1798, Roy., Eunice Bill, who d. Dec. 15, 1805 ( ?), Roy. She joined the church in June, 1800. Asa Perrin in his diary says that Alexander Wood- worth was "cried" to Sally Bowman on June 23, 1805. Of course there is an error somewhere, if the same man is meant. Only one Alexander is listed, and he continues to be until 1816. The children, Eli, Leonard, and Rhoda, are called the ch. of Alex. and Mary in the church records. Alexander had parts of 27 and 28 Dutch.
